Chapter 226: A day in the life of (4)
"Food!"
A wry smile appeared on my face when I heard this.
The kobolds, dryads, and other monsters that we had brought back to the village all ignored this when they heard it.
Instead, they looked at me as if they were asking me to take care of it.
After all, I was the only one that could actually deal with the person that could deal with the person...or rather the dragon that was making this fuss.
At the same time, it wasn’t as if she would be satisfied unless I was the one that cooked for her.
She still ate the food that was cooked by the others from time to time, but that was only when I was busy with something else that she forced herself to accept this. But after a while, she would get fed up and force me to make something for her.
So in the end, I went to cook since that was the only way to settle this matter.
At the same time, it wasn’t as if there was anything to gain from Iris being in a bad mood like this.
She was a black dragon and the one that protected this settlement in the first place, so she was the one that was the most important here. The way that everyone acted was more than enough to show just how valued she was to them.
Even though I was the chief.
After I finished cooking for her, she didn’t waste any time in gulping it down.
There wasn’t a single monster that dared to approach while Iris was eating, out of fear of disturbing her. All of them clearly feared and respected her, so they wouldn’t do anything that would put them on her bad side.
When she was done, Iris just gave a burp before saying with a smile, "You always make the best food."
Then as if she didn’t just throw a tantrum, she went to take a nap.
After she was done throwing this tantrum, everyone in the settlement let out a sigh of relief before going back to what they were doing.
But that involved bringing me in since I was the one that everyone seemed to have something for. Even though I was the chief that should have supervised everything, I was the one that actually took care of most things.
That was just how much they depended on me.
"Is this really the life that a monster should be living?" I couldn’t help thinking to myself as I was being dragged around by everyone like this.
Still, it was good seeing how lively everyone was.
Compared to before where they lived in fear, it seemed like they were filled with much more confidence and life now. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before a real powerful community of monsters was established here.
Especially since we were working on a certain something special.
But for now, it was a secret until it was time to reveal it.
For now, it was good to just enjoy life like this.
...
"How does it feel to be promoted to B Rank?"
"In the first place, he was comparable to the guild master who is a former A Rank, right?"
"Not just comparable, he’s stronger than the guild master."
When he heard this, Rein glared at the adventurers who had been secretly saying these things.
But it wasn’t as if he was serious about this.
In the first place, the adventurers were a free group of people.
It wasn’t as if there was a strict code that bound them since they were a group that had gathered out of their own interest.
So in the end, it was more like they were a social gathering of people with similar interests rather than a real group.
It was just that there were some strict rules as a whole that were meant to protect adventurers that all adventurers had to follow. This was the basis of any group, so something like this was expected.
That was how I was able to slowly wear down even the guild master.
Even though he had it out for me since that incident with the cultists, it didn’t seem like he held that against me anymore with the way that he treated me.
It was the same with the higher ups of the Adventurer’s Guild.
It would be hard to rise up in rank like this if they still regarded me as some kind of troublemaker.
After all, it wasn’t as if there was anything to gain from giving someone that caused trouble too much power.
But now that I had proven that I wasn’t actually causing trouble and that it was trouble that followed me, they chose to promote me.
The performance that I had put on during this time really was the one thing that convinced them.
I was able to approach most of the adventurers that were a part of the Adventurer’s Guild after all. With all of them supporting me like this, it really was hard for them to prevent me from being promoted.
Or else they would be breaking their own rules.
Still, it wasn’t a bad feeling having everyone celebrate for me like this.
Once I received my B Rank Adventurer’s Guild card, the first thing that was said was...
"Next round of drinks are on Stark."
I didn’t know who said this, but they all cheered for this.
So in the end, I had no choice but to take out a bag of gold that I used to pay for the drinks.
Though I had been extorted of these drinks, it wasn’t as if this was a bad thing.
It meant that they at least saw me as one of them that they were comfortable enough to do something like this.
At the same time, it wasn’t a bad feeling to be included by these adventurers like this.
It was like having a bunch of bad influences at the same time.
