Chapter 196: Evil necromancers

Chapter 196: Evil necromancers

"Is it another report on those necromancers?" I asked Vanessa when she brought a pile of paper over.

She just set the pile down before giving a nod without saying a word.

I gave a sigh before I picked up the piece of paper on top.

This was the summary that she made of the entire report and I was just reading this one page.

If I were to read the rest of it, there was no doubt that I would have a headache for the rest of the day.

If anything, Vanessa was thorough.

Though that usually meant that she would include a bunch of information that wasn’t really necessary for these kinds of things. That just made these reports a bit too long and a bit of a headache to read.

Still, I knew that she was doing her best when it came to making these reports.

When I read the first page, I just gave another sigh.

That was because this report was the same as the other reports.

It was about the evil necromancers that were currently at large in this wilderness.

This was information that came from the large powers of the wilderness, so it wasn’t as if this was something that was objective. It was something that was based on the views of those large factions.

Which was why those necromancers had been labelled as evil.

"Another village destroyed."

"More children kidnapped."

"Necromancers rumoured to be conducting experiments on humans."

This was what those large factions were saying about these necromancers.

That and the fact that they were putting bounties on these necromancers for attacking the villages that had been under their influence.

While others might have been fooled by this, there were many that weren’t fooled since they knew what kind of factions these large powers were. It wasn’t as if they were good people in the first place since they were here in the wilderness.

But no one really cared since they were offering a bounty.

If they were offering a bounty, there was no one that deny it since the bounty was cold hard cash.

Cold hard cash was king when it came to this wilderness.

As long as there was money involved, anything was possible in this wilderness.

Though there were some people that didn’t get involved since they knew that these large factions wouldn’t put out this bounty for no reason.

As for me, I knew exactly why they were doing it and the reason why those ’evil’ necromancers were attacking them. I even knew what was happening to those children that were taken.

There were a few of those children that made their way back to our town, just like we had planned. However, many of them were bitter because of how they had been treated and spoke poorly of the necromancer village.

They embellished the facts and made the necromancers seem like the villains.

Especially that first child that was sent here.

Since arriving, he had been picked up by one of the large factions and was currently being used as a voice against those necromancers.

Of course, he was doing this all for the money and protection that they offered him.

In a way, that child did get what he wanted.

"Do you think that we should do something about these necromancers?"

Vanessa didn’t believe those rumours that were spread by the large factions, but it wasn’t as if necromancers had a good reputation in the first place. Since necromancers were famous for their ability to control the undead, there were many people that associated them with being dirty.

After all, there had to be material used to create the undead.

In the end, I shook my head and said, "There’s nothing to gain from offending someone else like this. We’re already swamped trying to deal with the Iron Fist Gang, so there’s no time to worry about these undead. Just make sure that our guards know about this and will be ready to warn us if those necromancers show up."

Vanessa nodded in agreement to this since she knew that I was right.

The Iron Fist Gang might have been weakened after what happened with the treasure hunt, but it wasn’t as if they were destroyed.

As long as the leader of the Iron Fist Gang was still there, it wasn’t as if they would break apart that easily.

As such, there was still plenty that we had to do before we would be free of the threat of the Iron Fist Gang.

At the same time, most of our resources were tied up in dealing with the threat of the Iron Fist Gang.

"I’ll go and tell them." Vanessa said before turning around to leave.

I took one last look at the report that was on my desk before standing up as well.

It wasn’t as if this report was a bad thing.

The fact that the necromancers were receiving a bounty like this meant that they were slowly developing their fame and establishing themselves.

When it came to the necromancers, a bounty wasn’t exactly a bad thing since people already had a misconception of necromancers.

"When I see him next time, he might have already turned into some kind of demon king in the eyes of the people of the wilderness." I thought to myself with a secret chuckle.

But I knew that I couldn’t lose to Faust, so I had to deal with the Iron Fist Gang as soon as possible and increase the influence of this town.

However, to do that, I would still have to become a bit stronger.

Or I would have to find something related to the Iron Fist Gang that I could exploit.

"There were two new avatars that were unlocked when Faust evolved, we could probably use those."

With those two avatars included, there was no telling how strong we could become.

After all, it wasn’t as if they would just share their stats.

If they had special encounters, all of us could gain new skills.

"What is the main body waiting for?" I couldn’t help complaining.
