The fifteen or sixteen-year-old boy followed her gaze to the golden anklet tied to Mu Anxiao's ankle and nodded, "That's right, this is the Soul-Tether Rope."
"This thing is too small," Mu Anxiao said, tugging at the rope.
"Doesn't it hurt?" the boy asked, surprised.
"Hurt?" Mu Anxiao repeated, releasing the anklet and frowning. "I don't feel anything at all?"
"See if you can still cast spells," the boy prompted, curiosity piqued as he pointed at her hand.
Mu Anxiao glanced at her unharmed palm and said, "I'm not in a circus. Why should I perform for you?" In her mind, she thought: My sister's magic has its limits, you bratty kid. Trying to trick me, huh.
"Try it. If you can, we can escape."
"Don't you have magic too? I saw you controlling that female demon soul earlier, you were quite powerful. Now you want to treat me like that female demon?" Mu Anxiao sneered. "I won't give you that chance."
"My magic is gone," the boy mumbled.
Mu Anxiao didn't clearly hear him and impatiently said, "Can you speak clearly? You're always mumbling like a woman."
"I said," the boy mustered his courage, "my magic is gone."
"How is that possible?" Mu Anxiao didn't believe him.
"Really," the boy frowned slightly. "I offered all my magic to that wolf demon. All I have left is the magic to control others. Unless you let me control you."
"Try it," Mu Anxiao tilted her chin up.
The boy, indeed, held up two fingers and said, "I'll try."
"Even if you try, will my magic increase? Besides, if I'm not mistaken, you can only control demon souls, right? I'm a living person. What can you possibly control?" Mu Anxiao looked at the boy with disdain.
"You are a demon..."
"Which eye of yours saw me as a demon? That's just what your master and you said." Mu Anxiao retorted unhappily.
"Are you human or demon?" the boy asked anxiously.
Mu Anxiao calmly watched the boy's confusion and said, "You've gone in circles and trapped yourself."
"I'm foolish, I don't understand what you're saying," the boy said softly.
"You are indeed quite foolish. Of course, I'm human. As for my young master, he is a cultivator like you."
"You're not an immortal?" the boy asked, surprised.
"Uh-huh, I'm just someone who follows my young master. As for why I can see those things, I won't tell you. Now, I'll ask you one thing: If we don't escape, will your master chop us up?" She drew a hand across her neck.
"Master won't kill people, but he will let the wolf demon kill us."
"Wolf demon?"
"Yes, that wolf demon is a demon raised by my senior sister. He's cruel and ruthless. The reason I could be affected by the soul, I think it's also because of it."
Originally, Mu Anxiao didn't want to bother with things that had nothing to do with her. But seeing the boy so eager to tell her this secret, she reluctantly agreed.
"Okay, continue telling me."
"Continue?" the boy asked, confused.
Mu Anxiao took a deep breath and patiently explained, "Start from when you took the divine being to the wolf demon, understand?"
