Mu Anxiao didn't know how to help Zhang Yan, so he just nodded.
Mu Anxiao walked around the coffee table, looked down at the sofa, which was no longer in the dim light, and asked, "Did you change your sofa?"
Zhang Yan said helplessly, walking over, "This sofa is so obvious, didn't you notice it last night?"
"I didn't pay attention last night. This sofa looks much more comfortable than your old one," Mu Anxiao said, sitting down on it.
"Of course, it's a whole three thousand yuan more expensive than my old sofa," Zhang Yan said proudly.
"Since you have money, don't mistreat yourself. I suggest you change the bed in your room too. You're not young anymore," Mu Anxiao said, picking up the bowl of soy milk and taking a sip.
"You can't keep your mouth shut even when eating," Zhang Yan said dismissively.
"Certainly," Mu Anxiao said, pointing to a seat nearby, "Come and eat with me."
Zhang Yan nodded, and as he was about to step forward, he asked, "By the way, haven't you washed up yet?"
"I haven't slept, so why would I wash up?" Mu Anxiao said nonchalantly.
"You're not wrong, but it's morning now. It's probably not good for you to go out looking so dishevelled."
"Pride comes before a fall," Mu Anxiao finished the last bite of his fried dough stick. "I'll go out invisibly later, so what's there to be afraid of?"
"Are you going to school again?"
"Of course. I see that Hu Yuan hasn't given up on Ma Yan," Mu Anxiao said. "I have to keep an eye on it to prevent anything from happening."
"Alright," Zhang Yan said, taking out a hundred-yuan bill from his pocket and handing it to Mu Anxiao. "Here, for lunch."
Mu Anxiao wiped his greasy hands on his pants, took the money, and said, "Thanks."
Zhang Yan looked at Mu Anxiao's actions with disgust and said, "It seems I have to change my bed today."
"And change all your bedsheets too," Mu Anxiao said, seeing Zhang Yan's disgusted look.
Zhang Yan gave an awkward smile and sat down next to Mu Anxiao, walking around the coffee table.
At the hospital, Feng Qishi stood outside Feng Feng's ward, waiting for his mother's criticism.
"Tell me, why didn't you come back last night?" Feng's mother asked, arms crossed.
Feng Qishi said, "I went out for dinner last night, and when I came back, they wouldn't let anyone in anymore. There was nothing I could do."
"It was still early when I left. Why did you go out? In other words," Feng's mother narrowed her eyes, "did you go to see that girl, and that's why you didn't take care of your sister?"
"Girl?" Feng Qishi didn't understand who his mother was referring to.
"Mu Anxiao," Feng's mother said directly.
Feng Qishi hurriedly shook his head, "It has nothing to do with her. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have gotten my backpack back."
"Always losing things. Your sister couldn't sleep all night yesterday," Feng's mother said coldly, poking Feng Qishi's shoulder twice with her finger. "You're not allowed to go to school today."
"I understand," Feng Qishi nodded.
"Take good care of your sister, you..."
Feng's mother was interrupted by Feng Yan's arrival.
"Mom, I was wondering why I didn't see you. You're here so early," he said, looking at Feng Qishi.
Feng Qishi lowered his head.
"You've brought breakfast again," Feng's mother said gently.
Feng Yan smiled, "Of course. It's better for my sister to eat lightly."
Hearing Feng Yan's words, Feng's mother glared at Feng Qishi, "Learn from your brother about taking care of people. What did you buy for your sister?"
"Feng Feng likes noodles, so I bought noodles, but I didn't expect the boss to add chili," Feng Qishi said in a low voice.
"If I hadn't come, your sister would have had to stay for a few more days. You're useless, always messing things up," Feng's mother said angrily.
Feng Qishi was speechless after being scolded by his mother.
Seeing his mother's angry face and Feng Qishi's aggrieved look, Feng Yan said, "Mom, don't be like that. The fact that Qishi bought something for his sister shows he's grown up. Besides, Qishi is in his third year of high school. It's too much to ask him to do other things like this."
"Yan Yan, don't defend him," Feng's mother said sternly and reached out to take the breakfast from Feng Yan.
Feng Yan was silenced.
Feng's mother sighed again as she looked at Feng Yan and said, "Feng Qishi didn't stay here at all last night." Then, she glared at Feng Qishi and turned to walk into the ward.
Feng Qishi closed his eyes in resignation.
Feng Yan watched his mother walk into the ward and then looked at Feng Qishi, asking, "Where did you go last night?"
Feng Qishi sighed, "Mom has already criticized me for a while. If you want to criticize me too, I don't mind. Anyway," he twisted his lips, "I can accept even harsher words."
"I don't want to criticize you. I just want to say, don't take your mother's words to heart. She has a sharp tongue but a soft heart. Also," Feng Yan stared at Feng Qishi's face and asked, "Where did you go last night?"
"Nowhere special. Don't ask anymore," Feng Qishi averted his gaze. "I never take my mother's words to heart. If I did, I would have died of anger long ago."
Feng Yan lowered his eyes and smiled, "If Mom heard you say that, she'd definitely beat you."
"It doesn't matter," Feng Qishi shrugged and turned around.
Then, Feng Yan glanced at Feng Qishi's backpack and suddenly said, "Stop."
Feng Qishi frowned and turned halfway to look at Feng Yan, asking, "Is there something?"
"You slept in the pavilion yesterday," Feng Yan said.
Feng Qishi lowered his eyelids and said, "It doesn't matter where I sleep."
"How can it not matter? You're in your third year of high school now. You can't get sick," Feng Yan said, reaching out and grabbing Feng Qishi's arm. "Come on, I'll take you to buy some cold medicine as a precaution."
Feng Qishi was stunned, shook off Feng Yan's hand, and said, "Brother, Mom didn't say anything, so why are you saying so much? I know my own health best." He lowered his voice, "Let's go in." With that, he walked into the ward.
Feng Yan sighed.
In the ward, Feng Feng, sitting on the bed, looked at Feng Qishi, who walked in with a blank expression, and asked, "Brother, what's wrong?"
"Nothing," Feng Qishi forced a smile.
"Brother, it was so scary here last night. You weren't here, and I didn't sleep at all," Feng Feng said.
Feng's mother heard this and glared at Feng Qishi, "Tonight, you'll stay with your sister."
"I know," Feng Qishi nodded, then looked at Feng Feng, who was biting his lip, realizing he had said the wrong thing. He patiently said, "Sorry, I was greedy for food last night, which made you unable to sleep well."
"Brother, I was wrong," Feng Feng glanced at his mother.
Feng Qishi smiled faintly, took off his backpack, and threw it on the sofa. "Mom, please ask for leave."
"I know," Feng's mother nodded.
