"Evidence," the first servant sneered, pointing to the maid lying on the ground. "She is the best evidence."
Mu Anxiao had encountered servants who lodged complaints against her, and many who spoke blatant lies. Of course, she could tolerate those, as their falsehoods and words were neither here nor there to her.
However, when it came to matters of life and death, if she compromised, she would be throwing herself headfirst into a fiery pit. Although she did feel a flicker of guilt towards the maid, even so, she was not the one who had taken the maid's life. All she could do now was to seek justice for the maid and apprehend the person who had inflicted such a vicious blow.
From her observation, there was definitely someone behind these two fellows.
"..." She remained silent, staring intently at the first servant.
The first servant grew increasingly uncomfortable under Mu Anxiao's gaze. "What, still not admitting it?"
"The General knows it wasn't me, and yet here you are," Mu Anxiao said, her expression turning serious. "You're insisting it was me now. I think you're looking down on him." She glanced at Feng Qishi.
Feng Qishi said nothing.
The first servant's nerves tightened, and just as he was about to speak, the second servant interjected, "Mu Xiao, it was you. You never liked this maid before, so stop arguing." He knew his fate was now linked to the first servant. If the first servant perished, he wouldn't escape either. Thus, if only for his own sake, he had to unite with the first servant and smear all the blame onto Mu Anxiao.
Ultimately, one person's word could not contend against two. Looking at the inarticulate second servant, who usually just followed the first servant around, Mu Anxiao let out a cold snort. "You've joined forces."
The second servant's gaze was resolute. "It was you from the start."
Then, the first servant seized upon the second servant's words and turned to Feng Qishi, saying, "See, he says the same thing."
"..." Upon hearing this, Feng Qishi looked back at both the first and second servants, then said, "You said nothing when she wasn't here, but now that she's arrived, you're both talking nonstop. Now, I seriously doubt the truthfulness of your words."
"We are speaking the truth," they said in unison.
Mu Anxiao, looking at these two remarkably coordinated individuals, began to strategize new methods.
Feng Qishi was now Shen Moyun, General Shen. Although he knew this matter had nothing to do with Mu Anxiao, the identities of these two servants were far inferior to Mu Anxiao's.
If an investigation were to occur, the outcome would likely be exactly as they claimed.
Therefore, he knew he had to be cautious about this matter. He also knew that in the current situation, he could not help Mu Anxiao. Even if he were to help, it could only be in private. Acting openly would only give them an excuse to seize upon. Not only would it put Mu Anxiao in danger, but he too might lose his current position.
Hence, he remained silent, watching them. What else could he say?
"..."
Seeing Feng Qishi's silent expression, both the first and second servants grew apprehensive.
Immediately, Mu Anxiao declared, "It seems this matter needs to be escalated."
Hearing this, they both turned their gazes to Mu Anxiao's face.
Mu Anxiao looked at each of them and said, "Tell Father... tell my father. As the saying goes, dirty laundry should be washed at home. Since this maid is from the manor, this matter should be resolved within the manor."
However, the reason these two servants had jointly accused Mu Anxiao was precisely because they wanted Feng Qishi to arrest her and throw her into prison, thereby accomplishing something of use.
Never did they expect that after all this, Mu Anxiao would come up with such a plan.
At this moment, both of them began to panic.
"This is a serious matter. General, you must not be careless," the first servant urged, agitated.
Mu Anxiao: "Why are you so agitated?"
"I'm just standing up for us servants," the first servant shot Mu Anxiao a fierce glare and looked at Feng Qishi.
The second servant chimed in, "Yes, you wicked woman, you deserve to be punished."
Hearing this, Mu Anxiao couldn't help but let out a wry smile. "Wicked woman? I've never had any dealings with you, so why do you call me a wicked woman? Unless," she narrowed her eyes, "you're feeling guilty."
"Don't you know what you've done?" the second servant began to talk nonsense.
Mu Anxiao's expression stiffened. "I don't understand what you're saying," she frowned.
The second servant let out a light scoff. "Bad people never admit they are bad people. We've seen what kind of person you are. This maid," he lowered his head to look at the maid, "is too pitiful."
Mu Anxiao: "Can you stop pretending?" she said, utterly speechless.
Then, Feng Qishi looked at the first and second servants, who presented a completely different demeanor from before, and said, "The dagger can already determine your guilt. Now, with you acting like this," his gaze was cold, "I'm afraid it's meaningless, isn't it?"
"She ordered us," the first servant pointed at Mu Anxiao.
Mu Anxiao gave a light snort and turned her face away.
The second servant: "Yes, it was her. She told us to kill her and hang her on a tree, so people would think she committed suicide by hanging. These words," he said firmly, "were all spoken by her."
These words were things he had thought of on the spot. In reality, they were words the madam had instructed them to say.
Mu Anxiao, listening to the second servant's meticulous words, understood a few things. "Since that's the case, let's go find the master," she said, her gaze firm, showing no fear.
The first servant completely ignored Mu Anxiao, watching Feng Qishi intently as if afraid of missing something. "General Shen, you should arrest her directly."
Feng Qishi discerned that the first servant was becoming impatient. Seeing the first servant's anxious expression, he said without hesitation, "Alright, I'll arrest her."
Mu Anxiao was taken aback.
Jia quickly said, "Feng Qishi, doing this will only waste time."
Feng Qishi deliberately avoided looking at Jia and stared directly at the first servant's changing expression. He said nothing, instead crossing his arms in front of him.
The second servant chuckled so hard his whole body trembled. "General Shen, you are truly insightful. You..."
"She is the instigator, and you are the perpetrators. Therefore," Feng Qishi deliberately interrupted, looking at both of them, "in a sense, you are accomplices."
"..." The two of them froze.
Feng Qishi's eyes were filled with seriousness. "Naturally, you must go together."
Mu Anxiao, watching their expressions shift from joy to despair, lowered her head and secretly smiled.
The first servant: "General Shen, we were all following her orders. She said," his eyes darted around, "if we didn't do it, she would kill us. We are also pitiful people."
"That's right, General Shen. I have old parents and young children. Please... please let us go," the second servant whimpered, nearly crying.
"That is your business, what does it have to do with me," Feng Qishi said coldly.
