Chapter 193: The Golden Girl
James pushed aside the rock wall that led to the chamber and took a peek inside.
The first thing he noticed was that all the heat had vanished and the chamber had returned to its normal cool temperature.
The second thing he noticed was…that his expensive project had disappeared.
"What?! Where is it?" He had just been here the other day, and the divine leather was still in the middle of the chamber, transformed into a ball of hot molten metal.
"What is it?!" Bella couldn't see anything because she was still behind James, waiting for him to properly enter the chamber. So she moved him aside to take a peek. "Whoa, that thing is gone?"
"Hold on, it has to be somewhere." James began to walk around the chamber.
The place was a complete mess, to the point that he wasn't sure if it was worth the trouble to repair it, but that was a concern for another time.
"Could someone have sneaked in here while you weren't there?" Bella asked.
"You mean like how you did the other day?" James turned to her, and Bella decided to stare at the floor.
"No one can sneak here without me knowing. I made sure of that. You guys only got that far because I was unconscious at the time."
"Fine then…where is it? Because that thing didn't have legs, right?" Bella just realized that she didn't even know what it was.
The last time she was here, James's project emitted so much light and heat that it was impossible to actually see it.
"So…what is it?" she finally asked.
"About that…I'm sure it's not a hat," James said.
"Wait…you don't know? How is that possible?" Bella looked baffled at the reveal. "How can you make something and not know what it is?"
"The crafting process was a complicated one this time around. The material I was using was very special and more than creating something in the traditional way, it was more like…guiding it into a certain direction."
James tried to explain the best he could, but by Bella's expression, she didn't seem to understand all that much.
"Anyways…I don't think it would run away, but…" A frown appeared on James's face.
"What is it? Do you know what could have happened?" Bella asked.
"I have a theory…" He was sure that the piece of Divine Leather had its own form of primitive consciousness, so after evolving further with his help, the wrestling artifact could have developed a full mind of its own.
It should be even more advanced than Primum or Nyxaris, even though James wasn't trying to achieve that.
"Ehm…James? Care to explain this theory? You have been silent for a minute," Bella pointed out.
"Oh, I was just thinking that maybe it will come to me if I call it." James's logic was that as its creator, there should be a connection between him and the artifact, even if he couldn't feel anything right now.
"Call it? …please tell me you didn't make another Nyxaris," Bella said.
"What's wrong with Nyx?" James asked.
"For starters…she hates me!" Bella huffed.
James raised an eyebrow at the comment. "Where did you get that impression from? I don't think Nyx has the capability for h—"
All of a sudden, there was a loud cracking noise in the chamber. Pieces of the ceiling began to fall down onto the ground.
"Bloody hell! The chamber is falling apart!" Bella shouted. "We have to get out of here."
"Wait, I don't think that's what's happening," James noted that the damage was concentrated in one single point.
He could feel an intense source of magic approaching, and a golden light started to seep through the cracks in the ceiling.
Both he and Bella continued to stare upwards as this was happening.
Despite being scared of the whole chamber falling upon their heads, Bella never left James's side. This went to show how much she had come to trust him.
The light became more intense, and after one large chunk of stone fell apart, it left enough room for something to pass through and descend into the main area of the chamber, where James had once kept his potioneer table.
"Is that a person?" Bella didn't know what she was expecting to see, but a human being was probably at the bottom of the list.
"I…it looks like it." James was at a loss for words as well. This was not what he had in mind.
"In the end, it appears that we didn't have to look for it." His creation had come to find him instead.
As the humanoid figure descended very slowly from the air, they were able to get a better look at its features.
It was an incredibly beautiful young woman with long, light brown hair. She wore a set of golden robes and floated in the air while surrounded by an intense golden aura.
James's eyes went to the robes themselves. They seemed to flow like molten metal but also formed a complex fabric that emanated a tremendous amount of magic.
The woman's feet touched the ground, but the robes remained in a sort of weightless state, like they were submerged underwater.
Her eyes opened and were like a pair of light beacons, illuminating the entire chamber with their luster.
Her mouth began to move, and an angelic voice resounded all over:
"𐎠𐎱𐎤 𐏀𐎮𐎸 𐎬𐏀 𐎦𐎮𐎣"
"Whoa, she can even speak?…" Bella stared in shock. "What is she saying?"
"It's ancient Sumerian. She is asking me if I am her creator," James said.
"So…you made a young, pretty girl who speaks in a dead language?" Bella didn't look too pleased.
James shook his head and sighed. "I'm afraid it's more complicated than that."
"Isn't it always?" Bella added.
"I should answer her. We don't know what will happen if she gets impatient." James turned to the young woman clad in a divine golden aura.
