Dong Jian dragged himself to his feet, limping.
Although he was dressed impeccably now, the smile on his face was truly terrifying.
His ex-girlfriend looked at him in horror, her voice trembling.
“What do you want? Dong Jian, haven’t I apologized to you? Don’t hurt me, please! I have parents above and a child below. I’ll give you as much money as you want, I’ll agree to anything, please don’t hurt us!”
Dong Jian walked up to her, a look of sarcasm on his face.
“Give me money? Agree to anything? Fine, then give me all your money, your houses, your cars, everything.”
His ex-girlfriend became even more frightened. “I, I’m just a woman. All of it belongs to him. You know, I have nothing…”
“Then you promised me, didn’t you?”
The ex-girlfriend could only look at her husband. “Say something! Beg him, beg him not to hurt us!”
The man glared at Dong Jian, his voice filled with defiance.
“You bastard, what use is all this stuff when people are about to die? Do you think you can kill me?”
“If you have the guts, come on! Even if you kill me, you won’t get away! What can you do if I die? Will your leg heal? Will your cancer be cured? Don’t be ridiculous!”
Dong Jian let out a desolate laugh.
Yes, his life was already ruined. What good would killing them do?
He had originally intended to reclaim what his ex-girlfriend owed him, but looking at her trembling with fear now, he felt only disgust.
Even he, a broken man, felt disgusted. Her existence was meaningless.
So he changed his mind, stepped forward, and viciously began to tear her clothes.
Amidst her screams of terror and her husband’s angry curses, he ripped her apart.
Then he poured the unfinished food from the table over her head and body.
“You’re scared too? You’re afraid of ruining your lives? Hahaha, I love seeing you like this.”
He picked up his phone and started recording them.
“Beg me, quickly, sincerely. Beg me, and I’ll spare you. Otherwise, there will be worse to come.”
The ex-girlfriend was terrified, babbling apologies incoherently, her appearance as pathetic as could be.
Finally, Dong Jian finished recording a few videos. He stood before them, playing them on repeat, feeling an unprecedented sense of satisfaction.
“Get lost. If you dare report this, I’ll drag you down with me. I’ll post these online.”
“We’ll settle this debt. We’re even. As long as you don’t cause any more trouble, our feud is over.”
He and Zeng Hui Hua dragged them downstairs with great effort, shoved them into the car, tore their clothes further, and pushed them onto the road.
On the way back, Dong Jian, adopting a devil-may-care attitude, asked Zhang Hui if she was afraid of retaliation.
Zeng Hui replied, “These people consider themselves superior to us and value their reputation. So they probably won’t retaliate.”
“Even if they do, after all this, do you think I’d be scared? Stop with the nonsense.”
The two returned home content, their minds at ease. After a few hours of undisturbed rest, they put the matter behind them.
It was past two in the afternoon. Dong Jian had exacted his revenge and felt a sense of relief. He wondered what he could do to help Zeng Hui.
Zeng Hui threw a file she had prepared earlier at him.
“This woman. Find her and ruin her. That’s all I want.”
Ge Er planned to announce her relationship with Shang Jin Cheng to her family. She had arranged for everyone to have dinner together that evening at the same restaurant as before.
However, she had work commitments and couldn’t go try on dresses, so she asked Tian Tian to help her with preparations.
When Tian Tian learned that Ge Er was going to announce her relationship, she was both surprised and amused.
Surprised that Ge Er had been so patient; if she hadn’t announced her own relationship with Chen Dong Yang, Ge Er might not have said anything.
Amused that, on the verge of an announcement, Ge Er still wouldn’t confess to her beforehand, insisting on revealing the surprise that night. It was incredibly childish.
As she had been rather idle lately, and there were many clothes in her wardrobe that hadn't been worn, Tian Tian picked out the prettiest one and delivered it to her.
Coincidentally, Shang Jin Cheng was also returning home to fetch something, and they entered the house one after the other.
Tian Tian was quite surprised to see Shang Jin Cheng at Ge Er’s place.
They had known each other for many years. Although Shang Jin Cheng often appeared around them, he wasn’t Ge Er’s type, and she often teased him.
How had their relationship suddenly become so close?
“What are you doing here?”
Ge Er had instructed Shang Jin Cheng beforehand not to reveal anything.
Shang Jin Cheng found it awkward to explain. He smiled and deflected Tian Tian’s question, saying he had left something behind and had come to retrieve it.
“How did your thing end up at her place?”
Shang Jin Cheng replied, “I came over to hang out and forgot to take it when I left. What, as friends, can I not visit her house?”
Who was Tian Tian? How could she be fooled by such a flimsy lie?
She sized him up with a gossip-loving gaze. “You’re hiding something from me. Don’t tell me it’s you who’s going to be announced tonight, is it?”
“I heard she was dating, so I screened everyone in the circle, and I never expected it to be you. Well done, Shang Jin Cheng, you’re going to be my brother-in-law, you’ve got some skills!”
Shang Jin Cheng adamantly denied it. “You can eat anything, but you can’t say anything. If your sister hasn’t admitted it, why are you making wild guesses? Don’t imagine things.”
Tian Tian was amused by him. “You two are really something. You’re still hiding it from me when it’s come this far. If you’ve got the guts, don’t embarrass yourselves. Don’t come to our family gathering tonight.”
Shang Jin Cheng smiled and said nothing. Tian Tian placed the dress with Ge Er and prepared to leave.
“Alright, I’ve said what I needed to say. I’m leaving. Are you going to wait here for her to return, or leave with me?”
Shang Jin Cheng continued to play along, concealing the surprise as much as possible. “Of course, I’ll leave with you. The host isn’t home; what would I be doing here alone?”
With that, he left with Tian Tian.
They had both driven themselves. When they reached the underground parking lot, Shang Jin Cheng asked Tian Tian if she needed a ride.
Tian Tian replied, “Aren’t you in a hurry to get back to work?”
He wasn’t in a hurry at all.
He was preparing for the evening’s gathering. He was about to become the son-in-law of the Zhan family; he wouldn’t miss half a day of work for this.
To be honest, Shang Jin Cheng was quite nervous. He had no idea how to please Ge Er’s two sisters-in-law, or her nephews and nieces.
He had originally planned to ask his sister, but now that he had met Tian Tian, there was no one more suitable. So he decided to ask her.
“Stop with the nonsense, get in the car. I’ll give you a ride, and we haven’t chatted in a while.”
Tian Tian knew he had something to say to her, yet he was pretending.
She didn’t refuse and got into his car.
Shang Jin Cheng made small talk, indirectly inquiring about what gifts ladies liked nowadays and how to please children in a family.
It was evident that he was the surprise male guest for the evening.
Since he and Ge Er were putting so much effort into this, Tian Tian played along, pretending to be oblivious, and answered all his questions.
