The servant stood by the door, holding the medicine pill, and nervously knocked. Her shifty eyes darted back and forth.
"Miss, it's time for your medicine."
"Leave it there."
Ye Ziyu turned over and pointed to the nightstand beside her.
With Shen Meixiu's instructions echoing in her mind, the servant diligently held the tray and stood by the bed. "I'll help you drink it. I'll take the things away after you've finished."
"I don't want to drink it now, just leave it here for now." Ye Ziyu refused again.
If she didn't drink it, she wouldn't be able to complete the mission.
The servant stood there with the tray, her words clumsy and unable to persuade Ye Ziyu to drink immediately. She stood there, like a wooden statue, by the bedside.
Ye Ziyu closed her eyes, sensing the aura radiating from beside her.
She wanted to see what other methods they would come up with if she refused to drink the medicine!
As time ticked by, Shen Meixiu downstairs, seeing that the servant hadn't come down, became restless and decided to go upstairs to check.
Midway, Di Mingjue returned.
He hurried down the stairs, his hand on the banister trembling with anxiety.
Di Mingjue, concerned about Ye Ziyu being sick at home, nodded to Shen Meixiu as he passed her and headed upstairs.
"Mingjue."
A voice called out from behind him. Di Mingjue turned back in surprise to look at Shen Meixiu.
With a couple of quick steps, Shen Meixiu reached Di Mingjue. "You're back so early today to see Ziyu?"
"Yes." Di Mingjue had nothing to say to her and could only nod in agreement.
Shen Meixiu continued to walk upstairs, naturally blocking his path. "I just had the servant send medicine to Ziyu. She should have taken it by now and be asleep."
The medicine she gave?
Di Mingjue glanced suspiciously at Shen Meixiu, a vague sense of unease growing in his heart.
Looking at the narrow gap in front of him, he sidled close to the wall. "Thank you, I'll go up and check."
"I'll accompany you upstairs to take a look."
The two of them walked towards the second floor together.
Shen Meixiu opened the door ahead of Di Mingjue.
The servant's arms were sore, and the tray was still in her hands. Hearing the door open, she turned her head with relief.
"Madam..."
Upon seeing Di Mingjue following Shen Meixiu into the room, the servant wisely closed her mouth and stepped back.
"She hasn't taken the medicine yet?" Shen Meixiu looked at the untouched water and pills on the tray.
The servant lowered her head in panic.
Seeing her like this, Shen Meixiu impatiently nudged the tray. "Forget it, the water has gone cold and can't be drunk. Go down quickly and get another cup of water."
Di Mingjue went straight to the bedside and bent down to touch Ye Ziyu's forehead.
After the acupuncture, her temperature had already come down.
Ye Ziyu felt a familiar scent and opened her eyes to see Di Mingjue in front of her. "Why are you back?"
She moved to get up.
Di Mingjue supported her waist and quickly propped up a pillow behind her back.
"Are you still feeling unwell?"
Ye Ziyu shook her head, her gaze falling on Shen Meixiu beside her. "It's thanks to Auntie's medicine that my fever has gone down."
So quickly?
Shen Meixiu looked surprised.
The medicine was expired, and its efficacy should not be comparable to normal medicine.
Di Mingjue turned to look at Shen Meixiu. "Thank you for taking care of Ziyu."
"No, it's no trouble. We're family, it's what I should do." Shen Meixiu replied unconvincingly.
Seeing her lively and energetic, she was filled with resentment. After all the trouble, Ye Ziyu was still unharmed and hadn't suffered at all.
Ye Ziyu saw her unspoken resentment and became more wary of her.
Even in the Ye family, she was still no match for the Di family, and she had to guard against malicious schemes.
"You can go about your business. There's no need to stay home specifically to take care of me."
"Are you hungry? I'll accompany you to eat something, and then I'll return to the company in the afternoon."
Shen Meixiu had no mood to watch their affectionate display and turned away with a displeased expression.
