On the way to the company, Ye Chenhan forced his way into Di Mingjue's car. His mouth was like a machine gun, not stopping once the entire journey.
During a red light, Di Mingjue tossed a bottle of mineral water to Ye Chenhan.
"Brother-in-law is so thoughtful, you actually noticed I was thirsty." Ye Chenhan opened the cap of the mineral water bottle, tilted his head back, and drank half of it in a few gulps.
After he finished, Di Mingjue teased, "You've been talking non-stop, it's more impressive if you *weren't* thirsty!"
"Wait, you mean I talk too much?" Ye Chenhan took half a beat to realize what was said.
Looking down at the bottle in his hand, he angrily threw it onto the empty seat beside him.
Ye Ziyu gave Di Mingjue a meaningful look.
Di Mingjue found Ye Chenhan's reaction amusing and couldn't resist provoking him.
The red light turned green. Di Mingjue released the handbrake, and the car started moving.
"Ziyu, is he always this sharp-tongued?" Ye Chenhan asked Ye Ziyu.
Having been called out that morning, he was now like a porcupine, ready to prick anyone who teased him.
"Mingjue, you should apologize!" Ye Ziyu got straight to the point.
If he didn't apologize, he wouldn't have a moment's peace today.
Di Mingjue glanced at the displeased Ye Chenhan in the back seat and followed Ye Ziyu's suggestion, "Keep talking. With you here, the atmosphere is so much livelier, I don't get sleepy while driving."
Saying nothing would have been better. The more Di Mingjue spoke, the more Ye Chenhan felt he was being mocked.
His pouting lips could have hung a chamber pot. Ye Chenhan glared resentfully at the back of Di Mingjue's head.
Ye Chenhan had given him a good mood. Seeing that Ye Ziyu was no longer feeling down, Di Mingjue sincerely apologized to Ye Chenhan.
"I'm sorry, don't be angry. As a token of my apology, I'll grant you one wish."
A wish?
Ye Chenhan was tempted.
He leaned forward, grabbing the back of Di Mingjue's seat, his head almost touching Di Mingjue's face. "Anything at all?"
"Except for anything illegal," Di Mingjue reminded him.
Ye Chenhan sneered dismissively, retorting, "I'm a fine young man, how could I possibly do anything illegal?"
"I know you're good. Hurry up and think of what you want me to fulfill," Di Mingjue urged.
The car stopped downstairs at Ye's company. Ye Chenhan still hadn't figured out what to ask for. Afraid that Di Mingjue would change his mind, he said to Ye Ziyu, who had already gotten out of the car, "You go up first, I'll be up in a bit."
Ye Ziyu shook her head helplessly, greeted Di Mingjue, and left.
Ye Chenhan didn't want to leave, and it also meant Di Mingjue would have fewer words to say.
"I don't need you to do anything much, just invest in my band. Don't worry, when the band starts making money, I'll give you a share of the profits as your investment," Ye Chenhan said excitedly, afraid Di Mingjue would refuse.
His argument with Ye Qianzhi last time made him aware of the band's existence. To stop him from forming a band, Ye Qianzhi had restricted Ye Chenhan's spending. With limited funds, the band was barely hanging on.
"No problem," Di Mingjue said, pulling out his wallet from his suit pocket.
Watching him take out a bank card from his wallet, Ye Chenhan happily reached out with both hands to receive it.
The bank card hung in mid-air. Ye Chenhan watched expectantly, but Di Mingjue didn't let go.
As time passed, Ye Chenhan felt a sense of unease. His eyes darted around.
What did he mean?
Had he already regretted it?
With the bank card right in front of him, Ye Chenhan's heart felt as if it were being clawed by a cat. Not getting what he wanted made him uneasy.
"Any investment amount is fine, but I have a request," Di Mingjue said.
Request?
The politeness made Ye Chenhan even more flustered.
"I'll call you 'big brother,' and you can just tell me directly if you need anything. Your hesitation is making my heart ache," Ye Chenhan said, clutching his chest in frustration.
He felt like a clown in a circus, being toyed with by Di Mingjue.
