Knock, knock!
A knock on the door interrupted Jiang Ziyu's thoughts. She placed the photo frame back and turned to look at the closed double doors behind her.
The person outside heard no response and, on their own accord, pushed the door open from the outside.
As the door opened, their gazes met.
Lu Sisi, dressed in cleaning attire, awkwardly lowered her raised foot.
It had to be said that youth was truly a wonderful thing. The cleaning uniform did not detract from her figure or beauty.
Jiang Ziyu shifted her gaze from Lu Sisi’s body to her face. "Is there something?"
"Where is Brother Mingjue?" Lu Sisi asked.
Here she was, a grown person standing here, and she wasn't even worthy of a few words?
Jiang Ziyu casually sat down in Di Mingjue’s chair, gazing ahead lazily. "He's out on business. It's the same if you tell me."
"Then I'll wait here for Brother Mingjue to return before I say anything." Lu Sisi walked over and sat on the sofa.
Jiang Ziyu chuckled softly.
Her laughter echoed particularly loudly in the quiet office. Lu Sisi looked at her with displeasure. "What are you laughing at?"
Wasn't it her own freedom to laugh or not laugh? When did she have to consult others' feelings?
"Laughing at what you just said." Jiang Ziyu’s face was still wreathed in a smile.
A fleeting look of hatred crossed Lu Sisi’s face. She tilted her head, feigning incomprehension. "Why? I don't think I've provoked you."
"Indeed, you haven't provoked me." Jiang Ziyu spun the chair she was sitting on, pointing at the clock hanging on the wall. "It's working hours now. Is it appropriate for you to be off duty and sitting here?"
Mention of work instantly ignited Lu Sisi's resentment towards Jiang Ziyu. If it hadn't been for her meddling, she would now be by Di Mingjue's side as his personal secretary, not a cleaner who had to hide.
"After all, you got into the company and this job through your connection with Di Mingjue. Everyone sees that. If you rely on this relationship and don't work diligently, how do you think people will talk about you behind your back?" Jiang Ziyu spoke again.
The words, though seemingly kind, felt like provocation and mockery to Lu Sisi.
A mere cleaner was someone anyone could become. Yet, she had to rely on connections to get this job. Forget about the other employees in the company; even Di Mingjue himself probably looked down on her.
Lu Sisi stood up from the sofa in a fit of rage, charging at Jiang Ziyu. "Don't get too arrogant!"
"Sister Sisi, those words are rather unpleasant. What do you mean by arrogant? I am clearly giving you a kind reminder. You yourself said you have no abilities and are willing to learn from the bottom. I'm kindly reminding you not to upset Mingjue due to carelessness. How did that become me being arrogant? You're truly making me sad."
To complete the act, Jiang Ziyu finished speaking and then pinched the hem of her clothes, wiping her eyes with a look of sadness.
The seemingly scheming Lu Sisi was no match for Jiang Ziyu.
Lu Sisi was so angry she couldn't speak and was unceremoniously escorted out of the office by Jiang Ziyu.
"Brother Mingjue!"
As soon as she stepped out, Lu Sisi bumped into Di Mingjue, who had finished his business.
Her cheeks were flushed, tears welled in her eyes, and she looked at Di Mingjue with an aggrieved expression.
Seeing her emerge from the office, Di Mingjue anxiously asked, "What did you go in there for?"
Thinking her chance had arrived, Lu Sisi forced two tears from her eyes. "I just wanted to discuss something with you, but Sister Ziyu misunderstood me. I know I'm not capable and can only be a cleaner here, but I'm also a person with dignity. Cleaners deserve everyone's respect. They also make a living with their own hands. Sister Ziyu looks down on them."
Despite her lengthy explanation, Di Mingjue didn't hear a single word. As Lu Sisi tried to stop him from moving forward, she mistook his urgency for a desire to comfort her.
