The housekeeper left the front hall immediately after receiving the instructions. By the time she reached the door, Di Mingjue and Jiang Ziyu had already driven away. Watching the disappearing cars, she had no choice but to return to the front hall.
"Did Mingjue say anything?" the old lady asked as soon as she saw her enter.
She hadn't seen anyone, let alone been given any instructions.
Upon learning that the two had left in a hurry, the old lady's right eyelid began to twitch restlessly. She rubbed her eye and muttered, "A twitching right eye means disaster. Is something bad going to happen?"
Di Jianhan snorted, proudly retorting, "What could possibly happen? Didn't they leave perfectly fine? If you ask me, it's that woman surnamed Jiang who incited Mingjue to go out with her."
His dislike for Jiang Ziyu was palpable, and his cutting words did not sound like they came from an elder.
This behavior successfully drew the old lady's displeasure.
"Jianhan, you need to change your temper," the old lady reminded him worriedly. "You missed his growth for these past few years, and your relationship has become estranged. If you continue to treat that girl Ziyu this way, you know what Mingjue might do, given his nature."
Some things were too unpleasant to say directly, so she tried to save him some face.
With a huff, Di Jianhan ignored what the old lady said. "No matter what, I am his father! If he disowns me as his father for a woman, then he is unfilial!"
Some truths are indeed unshakeable; stubborn people will not listen to advice, no matter how it is given.
The old lady got up from the sofa with a sigh.
Di Jianhan stepped forward to support her arm. "Mom, please don't interfere with this matter. I am his biological father, and I wish for his happiness more than anyone. Trust me, Sisi is truly more suitable for him."
He hadn't been so stubborn before. How could he become so unwilling to listen after a brush with death?
"You know, one day you will regret this," the old lady said, pulling her hand away, giving him a final warning.
Watching the old lady ascend the stairs, Di Jianhan immediately cast her words aside.
Regret would never appear in his vocabulary.
Di Jianhan returned to the sofa, and Lu Sisi emerged from the corner.
She had heard the entire conversation. In this household, Di Jianhan was the only one she could rely on and manipulate.
"Uncle," Lu Sisi said hesitantly, approaching him. "I've been thinking, and I think I should go back. I don't want to cause you to argue because of me."
"You're just too kind-hearted!" Di Jianhan pulled her to sit beside him, earnestly persuading her to dismiss the thought. "Don't overthink it; the argument wasn't because of you. Mingjue is currently infatuated by that woman and can't distinguish right from wrong. Once he realizes your worth, he'll naturally divorce her and marry you."
Out of the corner of her eye, Lu Sisi noticed a figure flash by the window. Her gaze flickered, and she demurely replied, "No, no, they are so in love. Please don't ruin their marital relationship because of me. Uncle, if you truly care for me, you shouldn't keep pushing for Mingjue ge and Ziyu jie to divorce."
Her words of dissatisfaction were hundreds of times more effective than the old lady's persuasion. Di Jianhan asked, bewildered and helpless, "You don't like Mingjue?"
How could that be!
Lu Sisi did not agree with his assessment. She tried her best to reframe her affection as respect and admiration. "Every time I hear you talk about how amazing Mingjue ge is, my heart fills with respect for him."
"You really don't want to become his wife?" Di Jianhan was persistent, unwilling to drop the matter.
Lu Sisi solemnly declared, "I don't. My greatest wish is to live together with you all like family."
