Without time to inquire about the situation, Di Mingjue, burning with anxiety, followed the nurse to the emergency room.
Jiang Ziyu lay on the bed, surrounded by curtains, with doctors and nurses attending to her.
Di Mingjue stood outside, watching the nurse repeatedly exit and re-enter the curtained area with blood-soaked gauze.
What had happened while she was gone?
He took out his phone and instructed Shen Lin to investigate.
Nearly half an hour later, the doctor emerged, sweating profusely. Seeing Di Mingjue waiting by the door, he respectfully removed his mask. "Mr. Di."
"What happened?" Di Mingjue asked.
The doctor, also looking bewildered, turned to the nurse beside him.
When the emergency bell rang, the nurse was the first to receive the information and enter the room. She recalled the events, "After receiving the emergency bell pressed by Madam Di, I rushed to the room, but she had already fainted by the bedside."
Fainted?
Di Mingjue's chest tightened as if he himself had sustained an injury, his body sensing the pain.
The curtains surrounding the hospital bed were pulled back, and Jiang Ziyu was pushed out by a nurse.
"How is she?" Di Mingjue, weaving through the nurses, reached out and held Jiang Ziyu's exposed hand.
Having endured pain for so long, Jiang Ziyu was accustomed to it. She was awake and clearly heard his words but chose not to respond.
Back in the hospital room, Di Mingjue, mistakenly believing she was still unconscious, took out his phone and spoke with Shen Lin in front of her.
The hospital's surveillance was peculiar; only the segment of Di Mingjue leaving and returning to the room was missing. It was obvious to anyone that someone had tampered with the footage, deliberately deleting it to prevent him from understanding the circumstances.
"I want you to retrieve all surveillance footage from the hospital. I refuse to believe we can't find someone acting suspiciously across all the videos!" Di Mingjue commanded with a stern tone.
After hanging up, he shed his aggressive demeanor and sat gently by the bedside. His warm fingers caressed Jiang Ziyu's cheek, and he couldn't help but murmur, "What am I going to do? I think I can't live without you!"
In the quiet room, these words resonated powerfully in Jiang Ziyu's heart.
Can't live without her?
Had he really said that?
Jiang Ziyu found it hard to believe.
Sensing her attempt to withdraw her hand from his palm, Di Mingjue observed Jiang Ziyu's expression. "You're awake?"
Jiang Ziyu remained silent, her lips tightly sealed.
The window was not fully closed, and a breeze drifted in through the gap.
Assuming he had misread her, Di Mingjue pulled the blanket up over Jiang Ziyu's chest and turned to close the window.
The latter half of the night passed peacefully. Shen Lin appeared in the hospital room early in the morning and whispered something to Di Mingjue.
While reviewing the surveillance footage last night, Shen Lin discovered that many men in black had converged at the hospital. They moved with practiced coordination, their actions commencing only after Jiang Ziyu's incident.
From the surveillance footage, it appeared they were protecting her.
Di Mingjue looked at the photos provided by Shen Lin, his gaze fixed on the men in black, lost in thought.
Who else would secretly protect her?
The words spoken by Peter suddenly came to mind: she had lived abroad with a man for several years, and they were intimate, appearing to outsiders as a perfect match.
Were these men in black arranged by that man?
Di Mingjue put down the photos and looked at Jiang Ziyu, still unconscious on the hospital bed.
"Go to the hotel and invite Mr. Peter here to the hospital," Di Mingjue instructed.
Shen Lin nodded and left the room with the photos.
Jiang Ziyu had overheard a portion of their conversation. Learning that the men in black guarding the hospital had been discovered, she decided to convey what Mu Liangchen had told her to Di Mingjue.
She opened her eyes as Di Mingjue's phone rang. He lowered his gaze, his finger resting on the screen, and lightly slid to answer.
