"Are you free tomorrow?" Jiang Ziyu asked, her eyes sparkling.
Seeing her awkward state, Di Mingjue couldn't resist teasing, "What? Do you want to ask me out on a date?"
A flash of surprise crossed her eyes, and Jiang Ziyu's brows gradually curved. "What are you thinking!"
They weren't a loving couple, so how could they go on a date!
Di Mingjue tilted his head back, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Shy? Or afraid I won't agree?"
"You're thinking too much," Jiang Ziyu said, feigning fierceness. "It's important business. An orthopedic doctor I know is visiting the capital and has time tomorrow. I want to take you to see him."
His playful attitude vanished. Di Mingjue looked down at his legs, which had lost all sensation. "Is he better than your acupuncture?"
"Yes, he's won many awards, and it's very difficult to get an appointment with him. I originally invited him for the end of the month, but he's coincidentally coming to the capital for a medical seminar. Everything is so opportune," Jiang Ziyu said with emotion.
If the situation turned out well, she could leave before her appointment was up.
Jiang Ziyu's gaze shifted to the area of his kidneys.
Would he agree to donate?
Sensing her intense gaze, Di Mingjue followed her line of sight and looked down at his own body. "Tomorrow morning or afternoon?"
His voice pulled Jiang Ziyu back from her thoughts. She quickly replied, "We haven't set a time yet."
"In the afternoon. I have a meeting tomorrow morning," Di Mingjue arranged.
After discussing it with him, Jiang Ziyu immediately contacted the doctor from abroad, Peter.
...
The following afternoon, after dressing up, Jiang Ziyu took Di Mingjue to a restaurant near Peter's hotel. By the time they arrived, he had already been waiting for a long time.
Upon seeing each other, the two old friends immediately opened their arms and embraced intimately in front of Di Mingjue, with cheek-to-cheek kisses.
Even though he knew it was just a formality, Di Mingjue felt as if he had been slighted and stared at them with displeasure.
"Is this the friend you mentioned in your email?" Peter asked, speaking fluent Chinese.
Di Mingjue, surprised and somewhat displeased by the wording of Peter's question, introduced himself, "Let me introduce myself, Di Mingjue, her husband."
Before coming, he had deliberately brought the rings they wore before their marriage and waved his hand back and forth in front of Peter as he spoke.
Peter turned his head in surprise and asked, "Is that true? You're married?"
She hadn't intended to tell him about their marital status, as they would no longer be married after a year, and it would be awkward if he asked about it again after they moved abroad.
But now that Di Mingjue had brought it up so casually, Jiang Ziyu could only nod reluctantly. "Yes."
Peter shook his head, carefully scrutinizing Di Mingjue's appearance. In his haste, he spoke a stream of English, implicitly asking Jiang Ziyu why she had changed boyfriends and why she hadn't married the previous gentleman.
She had another man abroad?
The small flame of jealousy in Di Mingjue's heart began to rise.
Jiang Ziyu interrupted Peter's curiosity and endless questions with a simple, "It's a long story."
"Peter, he was in a car accident abroad, then became a vegetable and was bedridden for three years. His legs are now immobile, and doctors can't find any problems," Jiang Ziyu explained Di Mingjue's condition.
Peter reached out and touched his leg, and the sudden contact made Di Mingjue's cheeks flush red.
"Didn't you try your acupuncture?" Peter asked.
Di Mingjue's eyes widened like brass bells. How did this foreigner know everything and understand her so well?
Sensing Di Mingjue's displeasure, Peter looked up at him. He smiled kindly and reached for the blanket on his leg. "Don't be nervous, I'm just examining it."
As he spoke, he clenched his fist and tapped Di Mingjue's knee.
The legs' involuntary reflexes had disappeared. No matter how hard he pressed, the legs showed no reaction.
