The old woman opened her eyes and raised her hand to stop her massage.
Coming from behind to the front, Wu Xuerou sat opposite the old woman with a worried expression. "What I said might be too serious, but if something happens, we won't have time to regret it."
Hearing her name, Qianqian put down the toy in her hand, stood still for a moment to think, and then picked up paper and pen from the stone table.
Mom is very good, she can take care of me.
Looking at the crooked line of text, Wu Xuerou's eyes instantly filled with anger.
Impatiently, she snatched the sign from Qianqian's hand and pretended to be serious as she whispered in the old woman's ear, "Look, Qianqian is so young and already siding with her. If something really happens, Qianqian will distance herself from us true blood relatives because of her."
The paper and pen were taken away, and Qianqian became restless because she couldn't express her thoughts. She stood there helplessly, shaking her arms desperately.
"Grandma, don't think I'm meddling. I just think Qianqian is too young and pitiful for not being able to speak. She can't be hurt anymore." Wu Xuerou said, even shedding a tear emotionally.
How hypocritical!
Jiang Ziyu sneered inwardly.
Turning her head, she saw Qianqian waving her hands, looking uneasy and helpless, and she clenched her fists in distress.
Unable to speak, Qianqian had to step forward and grab her arm. She didn't manage to get the paper and pen, and was almost knocked to the ground by Wu Xuerou.
In desperation, Qianqian wriggled her lips, thinking of words, but her lips couldn't make a sound.
Her throat stretched her vocal cords, and dry, hoarse sounds came from her mouth.
The old woman listened and, surprised, pulled Qianqian into her arms. "Make a sound again so Grandma can hear!"
Qianqian closed her mouth, unwilling to try again.
She could make a sound when she got up, but she felt that her voice was different from others, and over time, she became more and more reluctant to speak.
Jiang Ziyu was also surprised; it was the first time she had heard it.
Being able to make a sound with her vocal cords was a good thing, which meant that Qianqian's condition was not serious. As far as her understanding of some illnesses went, as long as she could overcome her inner struggles, her voice would improve.
"What's wrong with you, girl? You're reluctant to speak when adults are talking to you. You're so ill-bred." These words came out of Wu Xuerou's mouth.
Sensing a burning gaze, she first looked down at the old woman, and realizing it wasn't her, she then turned her head to look elsewhere.
"Cousin... Cousin-in-law, when did you get here?" Wu Xuerou asked awkwardly.
Jiang Ziyu walked towards Qianqian, bent down, and hugged her. "Not long ago, just when you were talking about taking her paper and pen."
Quickly reviewing the previous events in her mind, her face turned pale, and she dared not even look at Jiang Ziyu.
Both were granddaughters-in-law, and while gossiping behind their backs was not good, the old woman still stepped in to ease the atmosphere.
"Don't mind her. What she said was out of good intentions. These days when Qianqian wasn't home, I couldn't eat or sleep well, and she said those things when she saw me like this."
Whether the matter was true or not, perhaps only the old woman herself knew.
Jiang Ziyu glanced at Wu Xuerou and said politely, "Thank you for your concern, but don't worry, I treat Qianqian as my own child and will not let her suffer the slightest bit of grievance. Not from anyone around her either. I'm a person who is used to doing things seriously. I take jokes seriously, Wu."
Her face turned ashen, Wu Xuerou knew she was in the wrong and forced herself to swallow her dissatisfaction.
"Grandma, I'll take Qianqian back for some water and leave first."
"Good, good, go ahead."
Jiang Ziyu walked out holding Qianqian, listening to the old woman's reprimand of Wu Xuerou.
Concern? More likely bad intentions!
Thinking about it now, the most likely people to have poisoned Qianqian would be from the second son's family.
