The three of them walked from the village entrance to its end. Er Ya pointed to a house with its door tightly shut in front of them. "This is Doctor Qin's home."
"Thank you," Di Mingjue said, taking out banknotes from his pocket and placing them in Er Ya's hand. "Buy candy with this."
It was Er Ya's first time seeing such a large sum of money. She tried to return it, refusing, "I can't take it."
"It's fine, it's for thanking you for bringing us here, consider it earned," Ye Zi Yu said, pushing the money back into Er Ya's hand.
Looking at the money in her hand, Er Ya smiled shyly, stuffed it into her pocket, and ran off.
Ye Zi Yu smiled. Er Ya looked about the same age as Qian Qian, and just as adorable.
The two turned to look at the door in front of them. Di Mingjue stepped forward and knocked.
After a moment, a door inside opened.
"Who is it?" Qin Hong emerged from inside.
Ye Zi Yu felt very nervous. She was afraid that after so long, Qin Hong would have forgotten about the past.
The wooden door opened from the inside. Di Mingjue swiftly stuck a foot in, preventing it from closing.
"Who are you?" Qin Hong asked, looking nervously at the two people outside.
After leaving her job, she had been working as a village doctor. No one from the city center had ever come to find her.
Di Mingjue entered the courtyard. He took out a business card from his pocket and handed it to her. "Doctor Qin, you should be familiar with this, shouldn't you?"
Di Mingjue had arranged for Shen Lin to handle Ye Zi Yu's delivery at the hospital. The doctor who delivered the baby naturally knew what it meant that Ye Zi Yu had given birth.
However, Di Mingjue was unaware that Ye Zi Yu had switched hospitals at the last minute to take the child away. This gave the villains an opportunity to succeed.
"Di, President Di," Qin Hong stammered.
Having worked in the city center, she was well aware of the existence of Di Jue Group.
Ye Zi Yu stood in front of Qin Hong. "You should not be unfamiliar with me, Doctor Qin."
Qin Hong certainly remembered Ye Zi Yu. She had personally delivered her baby back then. A frail body carrying quadruplets, and each birth was healthy. It was just that the last one was taken by her.
"It's been too long, I can't quite remember," Qin Hong avoided Ye Zi Yu's piercing gaze and replied.
Whether she genuinely didn't remember or was pretending, her expression betrayed her.
Ye Zi Yu entered the living room without being invited. She looked at the medical books placed inside and then back at Qin Hong, who was following nervously. "Are you treating people in the village?"
Qin Hong nodded.
Fearing discovery back then, she had been anxious and uneasy at the hospital every day. Gradually, she felt she was no longer suited to continue working and voluntarily resigned, returning to her hometown.
She hadn't expected that even in this desolate village she had returned to, they would still find her.
"Doctor Qin, I'll be direct. When you delivered my babies years ago, you told me my fourth child was stillborn. But someone told me my fourth child was sold by you," Ye Zi Yu said, speaking word by word as she looked at Qin Hong.
She knew everything?
A chill ran down Qin Hong's spine.
How was that possible? During childbirth, she had nearly bled to death. Given her condition at the time, she wouldn't have been able to distinguish between a stillbirth and a live birth.
Moreover, the baby had indeed been silent then and was discarded as a stillborn. It was only later discovered that the baby was alive. But fearing repercussions from the patient, she dared not speak up.
"Do you remember now?" Di Mingjue pressed.
Qin Hong wanted to shake her head, but now that her visitors were certain and had come looking for her, could she still hide it?
"Don't worry if you can't remember clearly right away. We're not in a hurry to go back. We'll stay here for now. Once Doctor Qin remembers and tells us what happened back then, we'll leave," Di Mingjue said, looking around the entire house.
Qin Hong lived alone. There were also vacant rooms on both sides of the courtyard. Di Mingjue placed a sum of money on the table, essentially as rent.
