"Squeeze in a bit, won't you? It's rather awkward for me to sit here looking like this," Ye Chenhan said, glancing left and right. He was conscious of his image, fearing someone might snap a photo of him. After all, he was the fourth young master of the Ye family and the lead singer of the band.
Ye Ziyu looked at him with sympathy, but the space was just too limited to make room for him.
"How about you skip eating for now? I can pack some for you to take back later," Di Mingjue suggested.
Since they had come all this way, it wouldn't do to go back hungry. Ye Chenhan shook his head, rejecting the offer, and resigned himself to the situation.
Western restaurants always had a good atmosphere, with piano music playing softly indoors and hushed conversations. There was no uncomfortable clamor at all.
Even the servers moved quietly when bringing out the food.
Besides its pleasant ambiance, this restaurant had another characteristic: no à la carte ordering was allowed. Guests were served whatever dishes had been pre-arranged for the day.
It was much like a currency exchange; the menu varied daily. This was a great relief for people who suffered from decision paralysis.
Ye Ziyu looked at the plate in front of her, finding a large portion of it filled with food she disliked.
Di Mingjue knew her tastes by heart. He reached over, swapped their trays, and then carefully picked out the food Ye Ziyu favored from his own plate and placed it onto hers.
Western meals didn't typically have large portions, and after selecting, there wasn't enough to even fill a gap between teeth. However, there would be more courses to come.
Ye Chenhan watched Di Mingjue's actions and couldn't help but tease, "You're spoiling her too much. Eating more vegetables is good for you. You've taken them all away, which seems like you're doing her a favor, but you're actually harming her."
He said it intentionally, but to his surprise, Gu Xiuyu earnestly refuted him, "While health is important, personal preference is equally so. Since Miss Ye dislikes vegetables, forcing herself to eat them would make her unhappy, which can also lead to psychological distress."
It was just a vegetable; was it worth arguing over?
Ye Chenhan was stunned. He truly couldn't understand why Gu Xiuyu had taken his bait.
"I see Miss Ye rather enjoys shrimp. I haven't touched the shrimp on my plate, you can have it." Gu Xiuyu pushed his plate to the center, only for Di Mingjue to swiftly pick up the shrimp with his chopsticks.
"Since Mr. Gu isn't eating, I won't be polite. I was just wanting to try the taste of this shrimp," Di Mingjue said, not hesitating to pop it into his mouth.
Ye Ziyu was startled by his bold action and discreetly patted his leg under the table, signaling him not to target Gu Xiuyu so aggressively.
With Gu Xiuyu sitting there, acting like a gentleman and leaning towards Ye Ziyu, how could Di Mingjue not target him?
Di Mingjue placed his hand under the table, enclosing Ye Ziyu's, and then brought their joined hands out into plain sight.
"This is too much!" Ye Chenhan exclaimed. "There are three single men here. Are you two going to flaunt it like this?"
Ye Ziyu felt embarrassed and tried to pull her hand away, but Di Mingjue held on tightly, and her struggles were in vain.
"If you're jealous, go find a girlfriend and have a few adorable children," Di Mingjue said to Ye Chenhan, though his words were also aimed at Gu Xiuyu.
His gaze, cold and sharp, fell on Gu Xiuyu's face, as if trying to pierce through him.
"Getting married and having children is indeed something to envy and aspire to," Gu Xiuyu commented.
Di Mingjue let out a soft scoff. "It seems Mr. Gu also wants to get married? If you don't have anyone suitable, shall I introduce someone?" Di Mingjue was about to play matchmaker.
He hadn't been in Sijiu City for long, and if he really had to introduce someone, he wouldn't know who.
Gu Xiuyu's gaze shifted to Ye Ziyu, then quickly back to Di Mingjue. "I have someone in mind, so I won't trouble you with introductions, President Di."
