Ye Ziyu stepped before Di Mingjue and took his hand out from under the covers. She felt his wrist, then flattened his curled fingers. Placing the knife tip against his fingertip, she closed her eyes and slit it open.
The blood that flowed was black.
Ye Ziyu dropped the knife and used her other hand to firmly squeeze Di Mingjue's fingertip. Blood continuously spurted out, transitioning from black to red.
She glanced back at the monitor, confirming there was no danger to his life. Relieved, she released his finger.
"Could you please bandage his finger for him?" Ye Ziyu asked the nurse behind her.
As she walked out of the ward, Ye Ziyu's legs went weak, and she gripped the wall for support.
"Sister Ziyu," Yu Xixi approached and took her arm. At Ye Chenhan's signal, they sat down on the lounge chairs opposite the room. "Are you alright?"
Ye Ziyu waved her hand and glanced at the curtains that had been drawn by the nurse.
Considering how quickly the poison was spreading through his body, she needed to obtain the antidote from Gu Xiuyu as soon as possible.
But how could she possibly meet his demands?
"Ziyu?" Ye Chenhan waved his hand in front of Ye Ziyu, drawing her attention back.
Ye Ziyu looked up at him. After a moment, she stood up from the chair.
"Where are you going?" Ye Chenhan pressed.
"You two watch Mingjue. Call me if anything happens," Ye Ziyu said, then swiftly entered the elevator.
She was leaving just like that?
Ye Chenhan looked at Shen Lin. "You follow her. If she runs into any trouble, you can help her."
"Yes, we'll watch Mingjue here, so you don't need to worry. You go with her, and we'll stay in touch if anything comes up," Yu Xixi seconded, urging Shen Lin to catch up quickly.
With Di Mingjue on one side and Ye Ziyu on the other, both needed someone to watch over them.
Shen Lin hurried forward, and the two of them caught up to Ye Ziyu's pace.
After they left, the doorway became quiet again. Looking at the patients walking by, Yu Xixi took Ye Chenhan's hand. "Do you think Brother Mingjue will be alright this time?"
Ye Chenhan shook his head.
It didn't seem like simple poisoning. Even the doctors couldn't treat his current condition. Without an antidote, how could he possibly recover to his original state?
"Don't think about it. All we can do is stay here and watch them," Ye Chenhan said, putting his arm around Yu Xixi's shoulder. The two of them looked into the ward at Di Mingjue.
After leaving the hospital, Ye Ziyu stood by the roadside and quickly hailed a car.
"West Industrial Zone."
"Alright."
The driver turned on the meter, and the car pulled away from the hospital entrance.
When Shen Lin emerged, he saw the taxi driving away. Without a second thought, he flagged down a passing taxi.
"Driver, please follow that car closely."
The driver looked at him in bewilderment, but seeing his urgency, he followed the instructions.
It was the peak of the morning rush hour, and once the cars entered the elevated road, they were forced to stop.
Looking at the cars moving forward as slowly as snails, Ye Ziyu kept looking at her phone screen with unease.
"There are a lot of cars at this time, so traffic jams are inevitable. Nothing we can do!" the driver exclaimed.
"Can we take a different route?" Ye Ziyu asked.
"Change?" The driver chuckled. "Miss, look behind you. We can't move forward, and we can't move back either."
The cars behind were right at the tail end of theirs. They were indeed in a bind, just like Ye Ziyu at that moment.
To gain something, you had to lose something else.
"We'll just have to wait," Ye Ziyu said, putting down her phone and looking straight ahead.
All she could do now was hope that everything would develop in a positive direction and that no further complications would arise.
...
Gu Residence.
Upon returning home, Gu Xiuyu first went to the warehouse to see Gu Xiukai. He had never failed to obtain what he desired.
"You have no right to tie me up here." Gu Xiukai was bound to a chair with ropes. Watching Gu Xiuyu approach step by step, he felt a fear he had never experienced before.
