"You're dreaming!" Ye Ziyu retorted.
She would only ever be Di Mingjue's wife. If she couldn't leave this island, she would rather die.
Her resolve firm, Ye Ziyu's gaze bypassed Gu Xiuyu and turned towards the kitchen.
"What Di Mingjue gave you, I can give you better, all over again. On our wedding day, you'll understand me," Gu Xiuyu continued to speak, following his own thoughts.
"Heh!" Ye Ziyu let out a light laugh, the sarcasm on her face flashing by before she quickly pushed past Gu Xiuyu and rushed into the kitchen.
The glass door was pushed open forcefully, accompanied by a clinking sound. Ye Ziyu stood at the kitchen doorway, holding a knife.
Gu Xiuyu watched the gleaming shadow of the knife as it swayed, falling onto her face. He asked with a serious expression, "Are you going to kill me?"
As his words fell, Ye Ziyu placed the knife against her own neck.
The knife was newly sharpened, having cut into few vegetables. Its edge was incredibly keen. The moment Ye Ziyu pressed it to her neck, she sliced into it within seconds.
Watching the red blood flow out, Gu Xiuyu anxiously moved forward.
"Don't come any closer, or I'll end myself right now," Ye Ziyu said, tightening her grip on the knife.
The blood added a touch of red to the silver blade, chilling to behold, and yet, tinged with a desperate sadness.
Gu Xiuyu retreated, holding his hands up anxiously, "I won't come any closer. You put the knife down first, and promise not to hurt yourself."
Cannot?
Ye Ziyu found it amusing. Since when did she have to listen to others? Stripped of her freedom, was her agency also taken away?
The blood flowing from her neck felt like a release for her body. Ye Ziyu continuously increased the strength in her arm, making the blood flow faster and more urgently.
"Ziyu!" Gu Xiuyu cried out in fear, "I'm begging you, put the knife down first. Let's talk things out properly, okay?"
"Let me out," Ye Ziyu demanded.
She didn't want to be trapped here like a canary. She wanted to go back to being a mother to her children and the wife of Di Mingjue.
Gu Xiuyu was standing between her and the door. He couldn't just let her leave. "Make another request. Anything except leaving, and I'll agree to it."
"Besides leaving, I want nothing else," Ye Ziyu said, pressing the knife closer to Gu Xiuyu.
If she was willing to die, she wouldn't mind having a companion on the journey.
The cut on her neck grew deeper. Gu Xiuyu, staring at the wound, roared in anger, "To go back to him, you're not even afraid of death?"
"Yes, if I can't be with Mingjue, I'd rather die."
"Have you ever considered that if you die, will he look for someone else again? No man in this world understands men better than me."
As his lips moved, foul words spilled out. Looking at Gu Xiuyu's despicable behavior, Ye Ziyu spat in disgust, "I believe you are that kind of person, but Mingjue will never become the man you describe."
"You trust him that much?"
"Because I love him."
The hardships they had gone through together were far more than others could imagine. Moreover, Di Mingjue's devotion to their relationship was even stronger than she had ever realized.
During these years abroad, aside from the three years he was framed and confined to a sickbed, no other woman had ever been by his side. He had even gone to great lengths to search for her.
For a mere transaction, he had fallen in love, waiting year after year for her reappearance. Did these not prove his sincerity?
Ye Ziyu looked at Gu Xiuyu, desperately cutting off all his groundless speculations, "You don't need to waste your breath. No matter what you say, I won't listen, nor will I change my mind."
Compared to him, even if Di Mingjue had behaved inappropriately, she would still choose Di Mingjue between them.
