Chapter 355: Chapter 355: Firework Feast
Dinner was bountiful.
Mr. Gu and Mrs. Gu both deliberately canceled their engagements to come back and accompany Sheng Tang, as today was her first day here.
The chefs were especially attentive.
There was indeed the dish "Wensi Tofu" on the table. The tofu was finely sliced into hair-thin strips, each piece identical, making a tofu soup that was fragrant and tender.
This dish involved twelve meticulous steps, and even one mistake would alter the flavor.
Sheng Tang took a bite, and it tasted different from what she had at lunch.
The private chef at lunch had made it more delicious. Although the Gu Family’s chef had learned the skill, it still wasn’t as good as the master.
"Try this," Mr. Gu offered Sheng Tang a piece of steamed fish.
Sheng Tang thanked him.
The meal was enjoyable, and the conversation at the table was delightful.
After dinner, Gu Shiting glanced at Sheng Tang and gestured towards the rooftop with his mouth, indicating for her to go up first.
Sheng Tang understood.
Mr. Gu wanted to chat a bit more with his future daughter-in-law, but Mrs. Gu pulled him aside: "Come with me to see an opera. The Italian opera troupe that’s been very popular recently is performing in the city tonight."
"Is it still possible to make it?" Mr. Gu looked at his watch, knowing the opera was highly sought after and tickets were hard to get.
"We can make it, let’s go," Mrs. Gu said.
The driver brought the car around.
Once in the car, Mr. Gu felt something was off: "Are you trying to get rid of me for a reason?"
"Ting has something planned for Tangtang. Let’s not spoil the kids’ fun," Mrs. Gu smiled.
Mr. Gu was a bit curious: "What did he plan?"
Mrs. Gu deliberately kept it a mystery and wouldn’t tell him.
Sheng Tang arrived at the third floor of the villa, walked around to the southwest corner, and up a narrow staircase to a small loft.
A light was already on in the loft, illuminating the space.
Gu Shiting hadn’t arrived yet.
The sky was clear, without a cloud in sight. It was past the fifteenth day of the lunar month, and the sky held not a single star, only a bright, icy moon hanging in the sky, casting its pure light.
It had been a long time since Sheng Tang had seen such a moon.
Gu Shiting still hadn’t come up, so Sheng Tang hesitated for a moment, turned off the light, and lay down on the soft couch.
With no light in the room, the moonlight bathed everything, as if covering the ground in a layer of frost.
The high-end villa area was very quiet at night, and Sheng Tang could hear the sound of the cold wind stirring the bare branches outside, so clear that it enhanced the night’s tranquility.
She rested her head and looked at the sky within reach, feeling the moonlight flood her heart.
She hadn’t felt such peace in a long time.
At this moment, Sheng Tang faintly heard footsteps. She planned to turn on the light when the footsteps approached.
However, the footsteps did not come up; instead, they moved away again.
Sheng Tang felt too comfortable to move.
Her body and mind were at ease, indifferent to everything outside.
In the room, only the moonlight remained, its glow faint as Sheng Tang looked up at the sky. Suddenly, a brilliant burst of light exploded in her view.
The brilliance lit up the cold night sky, dazzling and illuminating everything around her; then, the sparks dispersed, as if sprinkling stars across the Milky Way, little by little fading into the earthly world.
The sudden brightness and darkness created a visual feast.
Just as Sheng Tang was about to get up, more fireworks soared into the sky.
Surprised and delighted, she watched, a deep smile spreading on her lips, and her eyes curved into a crescent.
When the fireworks were at their brightest, Gu Shiting arrived at the loft.
Sheng Tang hurried to turn on the light.
He held her hand and hugged her into his arms. His embrace was a bit stiff, and his heart was beating fast. The room wasn’t completely dark, nor was it very bright, his emotions somewhat unstable.
But holding Sheng Tang made him feel much better.
"I arranged this for you. Do you like it?" he asked softly in her ear.
