Chapter 177: Tuesday (12)
"So you use new snapshots to keep the simulation on track so it reflects reality?" asked Naoko.
"Yes."
"And you can create simulations from scratch, using a digital file as a guide?"
"Yes."
"And you can include linked templates in the digital file?"
"That’s what Madison was saying."
"Then why not use that to build whatever you want? Link in the raw materials, start the sim, then use computer-generated snapshots to move atoms around until you have what you want. You could build nanites directly, no need for complex chemical reaction chains."
In the back of his mind, a little voice whined, "Why didn’t I think of that?" He ignored it. He was just happy he’d soul bonded Naoko. This idea alone was worth the hassle he suspected he would experience dealing with her father.
If this idea worked, they could use it to bootstrap their nanotech-based fabrication. Make the first nanites that could then be used to make more nanites which could be used to make whatever they wanted.
He didn’t even need to look at Nora to know she was feeling excitement and anticipation.
He walked around the desk and stopped behind Rina. She was so focused on what she was doing that she likely hadn’t heard a word any of them had said.
He put his hands on her shoulders and squeezed gently.
She kept typing.
Damn, is she just that focused, or is she ignoring me?
He thought about yelling to get her attention, but chose a softer approach. He leaned down and nibbled her earlobe.
She shivered, and her fingers froze.
He hadn’t actually described to anyone how his remote-presence technique worked until Naoko asked.
Still leaning over, with his mouth by Rina’s ear, he explained how his remote-presence technique worked, then shared Naoko’s suggestion.
Through his hands on her shoulders, he could feel her practically vibrating with excitement when he finished.
She twisted in her chair, grabbed his face, and kissed him. Then, she turned back to face her computer screen and started typing again. Faster than before.
He walked over to Naoko, grabbed her face, kissed her, then said, "You’re mine now. Even if I have to eliminate your father, I’ll make sure he never interferes in your life."
She hugged him while saying, "Thank you. I am so glad I accepted your offer. I had no idea he’d gone so far, and all this, your Genesis Heart, it’s so much more than I expected. Seriously, you could rule the world if you wanted."
He had no interest in ruling the world. Changing it? Sure, he already had plans for that. But ruling it? That just seemed like too much of a headache.
"Can I come stay with you tonight?" she asked.
"I don’t want anyone connecting the two of us until I have a better idea how your father is going to respond."
"But can’t you just use your remote-presence technique? With your abilities, you should be able to sneak me in and out without anyone knowing."
"Should I plan on going home tonight?" asked Samantha.
"No, don’t change your plans on my account. I can sleep on the floor or something," said Naoko.
"Or I could watch while Jack pops your cherry," said Samantha.
"Ooh, that could be fun," said Naoko.
Looking up at him, she said, "Can I? Please? I really don’t want to be alone tonight."
"Okay. Fine. If I can get you to my room without anyone seeing, then yes. As for what happens after, we’ll talk about it then."
All the parts Jack had ordered the previous day had arrived, so when Jack and Samantha got back to the hotel after classes, they carried the boxes up to his room.
Once inside, he, Samantha, and Miranda got to work opening plastic clamshells and assembling Madison’s data-sync devices.
When he finished assembling one, his parallel self would install it and the cameras. He even installed a camera in Madison’s jail cell.
Her jail was built using cinderblock, so he was able to link a single brick and install a pinhole camera inside. The battery and data-sync device sat inside the cinderblock cavity, and the pinhole camera was only visible if you knew where to look for it.
Her cellmate had been subdued, but Madison still felt safer knowing she could watch her body while she was inside his soul space.
After setting up cameras in his suite and the homes of all the girls, he talked to Naoko’s parallel self and confirmed that she had checked into his hotel.
The service desk hadn’t even blinked when she paid with cash, and even gave her a room on the same floor as him.
There were three security cameras in the hallway that could potentially see her when she walked to his room, so he templatized and linked them and had Madison hack them.
For the few seconds that Naoko was walking to his room, Madison put the cameras on a loop, showing an empty hallway.
When she arrived in his room, he could tell that she was still shaken up by the revelation that her father had installed surveillance software on her phone and was not in the mood for sexy fun.
So, the four of them, him, Naoko, Samantha, and Miranda, lay on the bed and entered his soul space for the start of his planned second-Tuesday through fourth-Tuesday.
With second days, he had mostly focused on physical training, doing homework, and trying to catch up to Nora. With third and fourth days, he could effectively triple the speed of his progress.
And those extra days would enable Nora, Rina, and Madison to also accelerate their progress.
Given how fast things were going, by the time he went to pick up Katie for their date, they might already have working nanotech.
He had read stories about characters using nanotech to augment their bodies and brains. And he had fantasized about what it would be like if he could do the same.
And while they were only at the beginning of nanotech development, he was hopeful that his onetime fantasies might become a reality.
