Chapter 8 The Replaced Quota

Around 9:55 AM the next day, all the new students were anxiously awaiting the department selection.

Those with higher perception could choose from a wider range of departments, but the popular choices were always Commander and Mech Pilot. However, there were plenty of students who applied for these two departments at the Imperial Military Academy, so the atmosphere was always tense.

The new students like Wang Ziming gathered in his dormitory, and Li Wei was feeling very uneasy.

"This won't do, Meng's words keep echoing in my mind. What if I really can't get selected!"

These students had all heard Meng Huai's assessment of Li Wei's prospects, and many were comforting him: "Meng must have been joking with you. How could he be so accurate, able to predict the future?"

"That's right, just be faster with your hands, and anything is possible."

Li Wei felt a lot more at ease listening to everyone's comfort: "Yeah, my hand speed is pretty good! I always manage to get limited edition items, so there's no reason I shouldn't get selected for a department!"

"Stop chatting, there are only ten seconds left."

The ten seconds passed quickly. When the time struck ten, people were constantly issuing commands to their light brains, selecting the departments they wished to join.

Immediately, shouts erupted from the dormitory buildings:

"I got in, Mech Pilot!"

"Commander department, here I come!"

"Sigh, I didn't get in. Let me quickly see what else I can apply for."

It was a mix of joy and sorrow. Wang Ziming successfully got into Class 1 of the Commander department in the Combat Academy. While happy, he looked at the others: "How about it? Did you get selected?"

Li Wei let out a sigh of relief: "Oh, that was close. I got in, my heart can finally rest easy."

Fortunately, all the new students in this dormitory got into their desired departments, and a wave of laughter and joy filled the room.

At the same time, in a dormitory in the male student dormitories, a student, trying to mask his anxiety with a clear voice on his communicator, exclaimed: "Auntie, I didn't get a spot in Class 1 of the Individual Combat department, what should I do?!"

On the other end of the communication was a middle-aged woman. Unlike the student's urgency and anxiety, she was very calm. She looked at the student's image on the communicator and said softly, "A Xuan, leave this to your auntie. Don't worry."

Hearing his auntie's words, the student called A Xuan's heart finally settled. His auntie had never said anything she wasn't sure about; as long as she said it, it would definitely be done.

"Alright, Auntie. That person is waiting for your good news."

Unlike his previous dejection, A Xuan's tone of voice had lifted slightly.

After hanging up the communicator, the auntie dialed another person.

"Add A Xuan to the Class 1 Individual Combat quota."

A man's voice came from the other end of the communication, sounding a bit troubled: "Commander, all students have made their selections now. The fixed fifty spots have all been finalized, and it might be difficult to operate!"

If a reservation had been made before the selection, it would only require locking the spot in the backend. Although the Imperial Military Academy publicly promoted fair and open department selection, such operations happened every year, but others simply didn't know.

However, once the time had passed, any further operation would inevitably displace a student, which might be difficult to manage.

"If it's difficult to operate, it means it can be operated. Am I going to have to teach you how to do it?"

The woman's voice was low, and her authoritative tone made the man on the other end dare not breathe heavily. He could only agree: "Yes, Commander, I know what to do."

A few minutes later, after the man made a few operations on his light brain, Zhao Xuan's name appeared on the student list for Class 1 of the Individual Combat department in the Combat Academy.

Since the list had not yet been publicly announced, no one knew that the list had been tampered with.

Meanwhile, in Wang Ziming's dormitory, everyone was celebrating. Li Wei was still looking at the notification for getting into Class 1 of the Individual Combat department.

However, in the next second, the notification disappeared...

Li Wei hadn't even realized what was happening, assuming it was a glitch caused by so many students logging into the campus network to select courses.

Li Wei muttered to himself as he refreshed, "No way, even in the interstellar era, there's network lag? This is too unreliable!"

But no matter how much Li Wei refreshed, the previous notification was gone. Instead, when he entered the page, it showed the page for re-selecting departments.

"What the heck, what's going on? I'm back to re-selecting departments, is the campus network malfunctioning? What about yours?"

Li Wei hadn't considered that his spot might have been taken, so he didn't realize the situation. However, the responses from others made him panic.

Upon hearing Li Wei's words, the other students re-entered the page and found no issues. They thought Li Wei was joking and teased him: "Classmate Li Wei, stop joking around."

"Yeah, we don't have any problems here."

"You're teasing us!"

Li Wei looked at his classmates' expressions, and his smile finally couldn't be maintained.

"I... I'm not joking."

The classmates realized that something unusual had happened and crowded around: "What? Open your authorization, let us see your page."

The classmate who spoke also opened the public access permission of his light brain. Because the light brain usually had privacy functions enabled, only the user could see and hear the content.

Li Wei looked at the page on his classmate's light brain with public access enabled, and indeed, there was no malfunction.

The others looked at Li Wei's light brain and said incredulously: "Why is there no notification? Normally, there would be a notification if you successfully secured a spot. This is the page where you haven't selected a department. Are you sure you got in?"

Li Wei said with certainty: "I'm sure! I checked several times, there was a notification just now, but after a lag, it disappeared!"

Everyone looked at each other. Someone suddenly spoke up: "You should check if there are any spots left in Class 2 of Individual Combat first. Get a department selected before worrying about other things!"

This classmate's words jolted everyone in the room. Others also said: "Yes, yes, get selected first, then you can go ask a teacher."

Li Wei also reacted and clicked on the Combat Academy, only to find that not only Class 1 and Class 2 of Individual Combat were full, but the entire Combat Academy only had spots left in the Logistics department...

Li Wei finally couldn't hold back and roared: "Ah!"

Because the public function of the light brain was still enabled, everyone else in the dormitory saw that only the Logistics department was left to choose from. The dormitory was so silent that you could hear a pin drop. It was likely that classmate Li Wei would have to stay in the Logistics department. Even if it was just for one academic year and he could transfer after passing an assessment, this outcome was still very unacceptable.

At this moment, they didn't know what to say to comfort classmate Li Wei. They thought about it from his perspective, and the mere thought was unbearable.

These individuals could be considered the pride of heaven. Going to the Logistics department was out of the question!
