Chapter 11 The First Target

Seven days had passed since the zombie outbreak. It wasn't a long time, nor was it short, but zombies were rampant across the globe. The armies had also consolidated and were preparing for a counter-offensive. Once human civilization began to move, all living things on Earth would have to tremble.

Of course, for a convenience store near Luzhou, the young man and woman inside weren't thinking about such grand matters. Saving humanity was not something they had considered yet; they were still hoping for rescue themselves.

After Shen Feng woke up, he found himself still holding his senior, and his senior's sleeping appearance was truly adorable, with slightly trembling eyelashes, a delicate nose, and those pale red lips. He couldn't help but kiss her, feeling a surge of pride: "This is my woman!"

The senior quickly woke up, broke free from Shen Feng's arm, rubbed her eyes, and said with dissatisfaction, "So annoying first thing in the morning. Haven't you ever seen a woman before?"

Shen Feng muttered, "No."

Looking at his junior like this, Chang Jianyi's lips curved into a smile, and she said, "It's best if you haven't. Consider yourself lucky, you've gotten a good deal!"

Shen Feng opened the roller shutter door of the convenience store and looked at the bright sunshine outside, surrounded by green trees and fresh air. It felt like a different world. If only the zombies had never appeared! Then, Shen Feng found the gas stove and began to boil instant noodles with mineral water. As he cooked, he asked, "Senior, do you have any ideas? How do we get to the city center to rescue your brother?"

Chang Jianyi also began to get dressed, and as she did, she said, "I have a general idea. In any case, with just the two of us, we definitely can't do it. Not to mention the fast zombies, even the regular ones number in the hundreds of thousands. We two can't get in."

"That's true. The number of zombies is simply too great, gathered in the city. We can't even lure them away," Shen Feng said with some difficulty.

Chang Jianyi continued, "I have an idea. We can find people to help. Many hands make light work! So, we need a lot of manpower, a lot of people who can follow orders, and they can't be too stupid; they need to be able to adapt. So, I've thought of a place!"

"The school?" Shen Feng guessed.

"That's right, the school!" Chang Jianyi said calmly. "Our medical school is conveniently located on the outskirts of the city, so there aren't as many zombies as in the city center. Also, college students are easier to fool. At their age, full of vigor, a few grand principles can easily get them excited. It's easier to command them. If someone gets injured, the students in the school can intern! Young people have good physiques, and perhaps the probability of being infected and turning into zombies is very low. We'll definitely have enough people?"

Shen Feng finished cooking the noodles and began to enjoy them with his senior. Then he said, "Then I'll leave the publicity task to you, Senior. I'm not good with words. I'll be responsible for the fighting. Speaking of which, I also found something good!"

As he spoke, Shen Feng took out a watermelon knife from the side and struck a pose, asking, "Senior, look! Who do I look like?"

"...Hua Qiang?" Chang Jianyi casually replied.

"It's Himura Kenshin, okay!" Shen Feng was hurt by his senior's comment. He didn't expect his handsome pose to be seen as Hua Qiang by his senior!

"Alright, when your watermelon knife turns into a katana, then you can strike a pose!" Chang Jianyi was amused by her junior, thinking that he wanted to show off but couldn't find the right props, ending up looking like a misfit.

After breakfast, the two packed some essential supplies and set off. On the road, Shen Feng found a relatively intact sedan with a zombie inside, constantly roaring. Shen Feng then opened the car door and killed the zombie. Finally, the two bid farewell to walking on their own two feet.

Shen Feng didn't know how to drive, so he had to let his senior drive. Fortunately, his senior had a driver's license and drove steadily, although a bit slowly. But it was safer to go slowly; safety was the most important thing.

Chang Jianyi casually turned on the radio. She didn't have much hope of receiving a broadcast, but if they could get any news, it would be better than nothing.

As a result, at this moment, the radio actually crackled to life: "Fellow citizens, the government has not abandoned you, nor has the army. We are all working hard to eliminate the zombies. We have already completely recaptured three cities, including the capital. We will continue to recapture cities. Fellow citizens, we are now facing a crisis of survival. It is time to stand up, defeat these zombies, and eliminate them. The people are invincible. Later, I will notify the cities that are currently being recaptured. Nearby residents can go and seek refuge."

Hearing this broadcast, Shen Feng and Chang Jianyi looked at each other. For the first time in days, they had received news from above. This was truly unusual. It meant that the country had not collapsed, it was still organized, and cities were being recaptured!

Afterward, the radio continuously announced the cities being recaptured, but these were all large first-tier cities. There was no news about small cities, but that was normal, as large cities had larger populations. Shen Feng's parents lived in Rongcheng, which was also within the scope of recapture. Hearing this news, Shen Feng felt relieved. His parents could probably survive.

However, this also meant that Luzhou would temporarily not be recaptured by anyone.

"We still have to rely on ourselves!" Shen Feng sighed.

Chang Jianyi was also helpless, but her junior was right; they could only rely on themselves to solve their current problems.

The closer they got to the city, the more zombies they saw. There were two villages around the medical school, both of which were quite wealthy, as they were adjacent to the school, and their ways of making money were naturally diverse. It just so happened that there were also more zombies in the villages. Walking through the middle of the villages would definitely not be a good idea.

Fortunately, on the outskirts of the medical school, there was a small grove. The grove was adjacent to the school's wall. If they climbed over the wall from here, they could definitely avoid the zombies in the nearby villages. Shen Feng drove to the edge of the grove and quickly pulled his senior into the small grove, preparing to enter from there.

However, at this moment, two zombies, a man and a woman, walked out of the grove. Upon closer inspection, it was clear that these two zombies were disheveled. The woman's clothes were even half-open, with the hem fluttering in the wind. Chang Jianyi snorted and said, "Truly shameless!"

Shen Feng immediately stood in front, seizing the opportunity to show off. He sternly shouted, "You two scoundrels, you're corrupting public morals! I represent the people in executing you!"

With that, Shen Feng rushed out with the watermelon knife, first decapitating the male zombie, and then approached the female zombie. However, he did not kill her. Instead, he chopped off both her arms and then kicked her to the ground.

"Senior, quickly come and finish her off!" Shen Feng called out to his senior, stepping on the zombie's back.

"Why don't you just kill her? Why do you want me to do it!" Chang Jianyi walked over reluctantly. It wasn't the first time she had faced a zombie, but at this moment, she was still very scared.

"Isn't this to let you gain experience? I can't be the only one getting kills, right?" Shen Feng said matter-of-factly.

Shen Feng was very curious about why he was getting stronger. Could it be that killing zombies gave him experience? If so, then he had to let his senior gain experience too. He couldn't be the only one getting stronger; his senior also needed self-preservation abilities.

Chang Jianyi looked at the zombie under her junior's foot with difficulty. It was still roaring, seemingly wanting to eat people. She silently recited, "I can't be a burden anymore. I have to do it. Let's just treat it as killing a lab rat!"

Afterward, Chang Jianyi raised the crowbar in her hand and smashed it onto the zombie's nape. However, her strength was insufficient, and the zombie continued to roar.

"Put more strength into it, or do you want to use the knife?" Shen Feng offered.

"I don't want to see blood!" Chang Jianyi refused her junior's suggestion and raised the crowbar again, smashing it down with all her might. With a "crack," the zombie stopped moving.

Afterward, Shen Feng and Chang Jianyi climbed over the wall and entered the school. Shen Feng asked, "Where do we start?"

Chang Jianyi pondered for a moment and said, "Zombies have extremely low intelligence, so we don't necessarily need to act ourselves. It's best to use the terrain to our advantage. Let's go to the teaching building. There's an artificial lake next to it. We'll find a way to lure the zombies into the lake! Drown them."

"But will anyone be alive in the teaching building?" Shen Feng asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Even if no one is alive, we can clear out the teaching building and use it as a base!" Chang Jianyi explained.

"Oh, Senior's plan is flawless. You truly are my capable helper!" Shen Feng praised.

"Stop your sweet talk! Let's get ready quickly." Chang Jianyi recalled the school map in her mind, feeling that her plan had no major flaws, and finally felt at ease.

Afterward, Chang Jianyi stayed in the pavilion in the center of the artificial lake, holding a battery-powered loudspeaker, while Shen Feng was responsible for attracting the zombies. There were guardrails installed around the pavilion to prevent students from falling in, but these guardrails were made of wood. Shen Feng broke a gap in the guardrails, so that the zombies, attracted by Chang Jianyi in the center of the lake, would definitely fall into the water.

Shen Feng acted immediately and headed to the fifth teaching building, which was the closest to the artificial lake. Upon arriving on the first floor, he took a general look and saw about a hundred zombies lingering nearby. Shen Feng immediately shouted, "You bunch of scoundrels, come and catch me! Don't you want to eat my flesh? Come on!"

Shen Feng's loud shout immediately alerted the zombies. All hundred or so zombies rushed over. This was the second time Shen Feng had done something like this, but seeing so many zombies chasing him still made him a little scared. After all, a normal fight against zombies from two classes would be impossible to win!

Of course, Shen Feng's shout not only alerted the zombies but also the students on the upper floors of the teaching building. Students appeared in many windows, and in one window, a professor was watching.

Professor Hao saw this scene and shook his head helplessly, saying, "This student is truly too bold. Although these zombies are not as fast as him, the sheer number of them is too great! So many zombies can gradually compress his escape space. Once his escape space shrinks, it will be difficult to rely on his speed advantage!"

The female student beside him quickly asked, "Didn't some students successfully escape a few days ago?"

Professor Hao said, "That's different. The previous students were fleeing for their lives, rushing out with textbooks tied to them, without stopping at all. But look at this student below; he's stopping and starting, clearly deliberately luring the zombies!"

"Then why is he doing this?" the girl continued to ask.

"How would I know? Perhaps his mental state is abnormal!" Professor Hao didn't understand why the male student below was deliberately provoking the zombies.

However, they soon understood, because they saw the man luring the zombies below climbing a tree next to the artificial lake. Then, the zombies all fell into the water, and from not far away, the sound of a loudspeaker could vaguely be heard.

"Can anyone hear what they're shouting over there?" Professor Hao's hearing wasn't good, so he quickly asked the surrounding students. There were over twenty students in this classroom, and one male student stood by the window, listening carefully, and finally heard what the sound from afar was.

"Professor, it sounds like: 'Selling old refrigerators, old computers, and broken phones!'" The male student couldn't help but blurt out a dialect phrase, because such a familiar shout was difficult to pronounce in Mandarin.

"Oh! I understand!" Professor Hao suddenly realized and explained to the students around him, "The students below have companions. He is responsible for luring the zombies, and another companion is responsible for attracting the zombies into the artificial lake! Zombies can't swim, so they will drown."

"Does that mean we're saved?" a girl looked expectantly out the window.

It wasn't just this classroom; survivors in other classrooms also saw this scene and showed expectant expressions. They had been enduring hunger and thirst in the classrooms for a long time. Their survival until now could only be described as clinging to life. Now that they finally saw hope for survival, how could they not be excited?
