"Brother Muye, are you asleep?"
Qing Muye placed his phone to his left ear and heard the voice on the other end. A fleeting impatience flashed in his eyes. "Not yet."
"I... miss you."
Li Yun'er's voice was exceptionally gentle, like a fine spring rain.
"Get some rest early. I still have some things to do, so I'll hang up..."
"Brother Muye, my parents aren't home today. I'm a little scared by myself. Can you... can you come and keep me company?"
After a moment of hesitation, Li Yun'er finally spoke her heart.
"I have something to deal with now. We'll talk later."
He didn't choose to accompany her just because of Li Yun'er's few spoiled words. Instead, he said coldly and directly hung up the phone.
Meng Jingwei, sitting beside him, couldn't discern who was speaking on the phone, but from Qing Muye's words, she vaguely guessed it was Li Yun'er.
Was he so indifferent to his future wife? Did they argue yesterday?
Meng Jingwei remained silent, gazing out the window as the car sped from the city center towards Lancheng's largest amusement park.
Silence reigned throughout the journey, the atmosphere inside the car heavy, tinged with a hint of oppression.
An hour later, the car arrived at Lancheng's largest carnival amusement park.
Song Ci stopped the car, and Qing Muye and Meng Jingwei stepped out.
Meng Jingwei stood at the entrance of the amusement park, and as she looked up, she could see the Ferris wheel, adorned with neon lights, spinning majestically into the clouds, looking exceptionally beautiful.
"Let's go in."
Seeing Meng Jingwei standing still, gazing up at the Ferris wheel, her expression clearly illuminated by the lights, even a trace of sadness in her brows was exposed.
Song Ci went to arrange things with the staff. Qing Muye and Meng Jingwei entered the amusement park together. All the rides were activated, awaiting their "favor."
Only after entering the amusement park and seeing the fun rides did Meng Jingwei exclaim, "My family's financial situation wasn't very good. Since childhood, my parents would only take me to the local park if I ranked first in every exam in class. The parks had small rides like bumper cars, children's roller coasters, and carousels. Even so, I still felt my childhood was quite good."
Now that she had grown up and could have anything she desired, she missed the joy and happiness of childhood and even longed to return to those days.
Her words conveyed a sense of sadness and loss, which Qing Muye keenly felt.
He turned his head, his gaze falling upon the young woman. He said gently, "Do you want to try any rides? I'll accompany you."
Meng Jingwei shook her head, sighing softly, "No need."
Even if she wanted to ride, how could she be in the mood?
They walked through the vast amusement park, watching the rides adorned with colorful running lights, dazzling and spectacular, with music playing around them. The atmosphere was excellent, but it didn't stir any interest in Meng Jingwei.
They walked all the way to the Ferris wheel, and as the staff opened the cabin door, Meng Jingwei and Qing Muye stepped inside.
With the cabin door closed, the Ferris wheel continued its slow ascent. Meng Jingwei stood by the glass door, looking out at the world, but couldn't bring herself to be happy.
"I always longed to ride the Ferris wheel when I was a child. Now that I'm actually on it, I find that... looking at it from afar felt more beautiful."
Meng Jingwei murmured softly, as if speaking to Qing Muye, or perhaps to herself.
"Perhaps it's because it's nighttime."
He stood beside her and said.
"Perhaps."
After standing by the glass door for a while, Meng Jingwei sat down on the chair. "I'm sleepy."
"If you're sleepy, then get some rest."
Qing Muye said, and then he saw Meng Jingwei curl up her legs and lie down to sleep on the Ferris wheel.
Autumn had arrived, and the night was cool. The man took off his suit jacket and draped it over her. Before long, he heard her even breathing.
Qing Muye worried that Meng Jingwei might fall off in her sleep. He walked over to her, lifted her head, sat down, and let her rest her head on his lap.
The familiar scent filled her senses, and Meng Jingwei slept deeper and deeper.
The man gently stroked her hair, his emotions becoming somber.
He then took out his phone and sent a text message to Song Ci: "Wedding canceled, indefinitely postponed."
Shortly after he sent the message, Song Ci's reply came: "Boss, think twice. Miss Li is already pregnant. If the marriage takes place after the child is born, regardless of the impact on Miss Li's reputation, it will likely be detrimental to the reputation of the future young master."
Qing Muye merely glanced at Song Ci's text message and replied with two words: "Execute!"
After sending the message, Song Ci did not reply.
The man leaned back against the seat, letting the young woman rest her head on his lap, his hand supporting her to prevent her from falling off the chair.
Qing Muye stayed with her like this for the entire night.
The next morning, Meng Jingwei awoke. The moment she opened her eyes, she found herself in a confined space. She blinked lazily, her gaze sweeping over the scenery outside, startling her into sitting up abruptly. "Where is this?"
"The Ferris wheel."
Qing Muye replied.
Hearing his voice, Meng Jingwei turned her head and saw Qing Muye sitting beside her. Had she... slept on his lap all night?
Carefully recalling what had happened last night, Meng Jingwei gradually pieced things together and resumed her carefree demeanor, giving a sheepish smile. "I had too much to drink and forgot."
As she spoke, she noticed the clothes on her shoulder. She took them off and returned them to Qing Muye. "Thanks. I'll treat you to breakfast when we get back."
Meng Jingwei walked to the cabin door of the Ferris wheel and looked at the scenery outside, couldn't help but exclaim repeatedly, "It's so high! It gives a feeling of 'looking down on all the mountains.' The mountains are shrouded in a faint mist, it's truly beautiful."
After sleeping, it seemed all her worries had vanished, and even her tone of voice conveyed a sense of lightness.
After sitting on the Ferris wheel for a while longer, Meng Jingwei and Qing Muye left the amusement park and returned.
No matter how fun the amusement park was, she had no interest in playing.
They got into the car, and Song Ci slowly drove towards the city center.
On the way, Meng Jingwei's phone rang. She took out her phone and saw it was from Old Mrs. Qing.
Meng Jingwei glanced at Qing Muye, slid to answer, "Hello? Nai..."
"Jingwei, dear, have you seen my youngest daughter? I can't find my youngest daughter."
Before Meng Jingwei could finish her sentence, Old Mrs. Qing's voice came from the other end of the line.
Hearing her words, Meng Jingwei's brows furrowed, a hint of confusion in her expression.
Youngest daughter?
She had heard Old Mrs. Qing mention her before and knew she had a youngest daughter, but her youngest daughter had died unexpectedly ten years ago.
Why was she suddenly asking her this question?
"Grandma, are... are you alright?" Meng Jingwei muttered to herself, her heart filled with concern for Old Mrs. Qing's condition.
"Oh, I'm fine, fine. I misspoke just now. I wanted to ask if you knew where Muye was?"
