Meng Jingwei, still being pulled along, couldn't help but glance back at the warehouse.
That look held a deep meaning.
Once in the car, Meng Jingwei leaned against Qing Muye's shoulder. The man let her rest her head in his arms, as if that position made her more comfortable.
His long, jade-like fingers brushed through her raven hair. "Tell me, what exactly did you go through today?"
Meng Jingwei rested on his lap, her eyes closed, holding his hand. She murmured, "After falling into the water on set, I was dragged underwater by two people to a blind spot in Blue Star Lake without surveillance. They put me in a car and left the film city. However, I insisted on going to the restroom midway, and a woman accompanied me. I took the opportunity to knock her out and sent a message to Lan Shu with my phone. Before I could escape, they discovered me and dragged me back."
"Why didn't you message me?"
The man keenly caught something. He lowered his head, looking at the woman resting on his lap, and questioned her.
His tone was laced with thick displeasure.
As her husband, he was naturally unhappy that his wife didn't message him when she was in danger.
Meng Jingwei's lips twitched. Her eyes darted around. "I was only focused on having Lan Shu notify the director. I was afraid of making a big scene."
In truth, Meng Jingwei was worried that if Director Li couldn't find her, it would blow up into a major issue.
Another very important reason was that Meng Jingwei did not want Qing Muye to know the real situation.
"Acting is not as important as your life. If you do this again, you won't be allowed to act anymore!"
His tone was cold, his attitude unquestionable.
He was clearly very angry.
Meng Jingwei turned over. Seeing Qing Muye's handsome face clouded with displeasure, she raised her hands and cupped his cheeks with her slightly cool, slender fingers, gently shaking them. "Oh, don't be angry. It wasn't a big deal anyway, and they couldn't do anything to me."
"Then why did you escape so late?"
"I..." Meng Jingwei touched her nose. "I just wanted to follow the clues and find out the truth behind it."
"So, you found out it was indeed Tang Wanxing's doing?"
Previously, he had addressed Tang Wanxing as 'Wanxing,' but now he had switched to her full name.
Meng Jingwei's pupils flickered with a soft glow. She nodded. "Yes, it was."
"I will give you an explanation for this matter."
Qing Muye patted her head. "Go to sleep. You've had a tiring day."
He casually picked up a blanket from behind and covered Meng Jingwei, coaxing her to sleep like one would a child.
Perhaps it was the fatigue from the entire day's ordeal, but Meng Jingwei was truly exhausted.
Upon arriving in Salt City, Meng Jingwei was still sleeping soundly. He carried her upstairs, settled her in the hotel, tucked her in, and turned on the air conditioning before leaving the room.
At the doorway, Qing Muye instructed Song Ci, "Watch her carefully here."
"Yes, Boss." Song Ci nodded and stood guard outside the room.
The man gave Song Jun a meaningful look, and the two of them left, taking the elevator downstairs.
Inside the elevator, Qing Muye instructed Song Jun, "Immediately investigate and find out who harmed Ah Wei."
Song Jun looked puzzled. "Didn't the young madam say Miss Tang was responsible?"
"She's lying."
"Ah? Ly... lying?" Song Jun was completely bewildered, utterly clueless as to which detail had gone wrong.
Or rather, how did his boss know that the young madam was lying?
He dared not ask further and immediately replied, "Alright, I'll investigate right away."
Outside the hotel, they parted ways. Qing Muye drove off, and on the way, he called Tang Wanxing. "Wanxing, where are you?"
