The phone had call reminders enabled, and all missed calls were converted into reminder text messages.
The phone vibrated for a full minute before finally stopping.
Looking at the hundreds of messages, Meng Jingwei raised her hand to her forehead. "Why are there so many messages?"
"After three months of not being able to reach you, naturally, many friends would contact you," Qing Muye said. "They are people who care about you."
"I don't even know how to explain this to people."
Although she had returned safely, her disappearance for three months meant relatives and friends who couldn't reach her would inquire about her situation.
Just as Meng Jingwei was holding her phone, preparing to call her adoptive parents, Ji Lanfeng's call immediately came through.
Meng Jingwei's phone did not save his number, so she didn't know who was calling.
After answering, she said, "Hello? Are you..."
Before she could finish her question, a roar came from the other end of the line, "Where the hell have you been? Did you come back from the dead?"
Recognizing the familiar voice, Meng Jingwei realized it was Ji Lanfeng.
She couldn't help but chuckle. "Crazy? Haha, it's been a while. How have you been lately?"
"How have I been? I'm asking where you, the witch, have been! I tried so hard to reach you! If someone hadn't told me you were in closed-door training, I would have thought you were dead!"
Ji Lanfeng yelled hysterically, completely shedding the mature and stable, caring boyfriend persona he displayed on screen, and a stark contrast to the image many fans had of him.
But listening to his rant, Meng Jingwei couldn't help but smile. "Don't be so angry. If your fans knew their idol was like this, they'd probably stop being fans."
"I don't care about them," Ji Lanfeng scoffed. He calmed himself down before getting to the point. "Do you remember the movie you filmed on our set over a year ago?"
During that visit to the set, the director noticed Meng Jingwei's good martial arts skills and cast her as a minor extra in a fight scene with a superstar.
Meng Jingwei nodded. "I remember, of course, I remember. What's up?"
"The movie's release date has been set for the day after tomorrow." Ji Lanfeng spoke with a hint of pride. "The director has praised you to me more than once. He even said he wanted you to play other roles in his film. But because I couldn't reach you, I haven't responded to him."
"Really?"
"Of course, it's true." Ji Lanfeng sounded a little proud. "When have I ever lied to you?" While he was speaking, an assistant's voice could be heard from the other end of the phone: "Hurry, it's your turn to go on."
Ji Lanfeng quickly said, "Alright, I can't talk to you anymore. I'm still recording a program. Remember to go see the movie."
"Okay. Thank you... *Beep beep beep*..."
As soon as Meng Jingwei said thank you, the call was disconnected.
Holding her phone, she thought about what had happened on Ji Lanfeng's set, and a sense of joy inexplicably filled her.
"Ji Lanfeng called you?" Qing Muye guessed.
"Yes, he did. He called to tell me that the sci-fi blockbuster I acted in has an confirmed release date, which is the day after tomorrow."
"Not bad, congratulations," Qing Muye said with sincere congratulations, then asked, "What's the name of the film?"
"'Star Voyage'."
"Good name," Qing Muye nodded, approvingly.
Half an hour later, they returned to Yujing Villa.
Meng Jingwei went to see the two little ones, while Qing Muye went to the study to get busy.
But the first thing Qing Muye did upon entering the study was to grab his phone and call Song Ci.
"Boss, what are your orders?" Song Ci asked.
Qing Muye leaned back in his executive chair, thought for a moment, and said, "Has the movie 'Star Voyage' already started pre-sales?"
