The Trickster King

Chapter 37 Ignorance is Bliss

As everyone was chatting, Deputy General Manager Pi Zhengtao entered, his face looking quite displeased, as if he had been reprimanded.

He briefly mentioned yesterday's events, stating that professionals were handling the situation and the police were investigating. He specifically emphasized that no one in the company was allowed to discuss last night's incident.

This was especially directed at the Product Design and R&D departments, urging their managers to control their subordinates' tongues. The higher-ups did not want the matter to become widespread, nor did they want many baseless versions to emerge.

"The company can chat, but during work hours, talk about work. After work, talk about life. Don't bring those irrelevant, chaotic things into the company, and certainly don't blabber everywhere and break the law, understand? You are all high-level executives in this company, and I especially don't want to hear any rumors from your mouths."

Seeing the Deputy General Manager's stern gaze sweep across everyone present, he slammed his fist on the table. "Understand?"

Many of the supervisors were startled by his sudden bang on the table, and everyone nodded, saying, "Understood, understood."

"Everyone, remember to write down your performance weightings for this month. There are only a few days left. I want to see your genuine reports, not something written by a department manager for you. You are also working for the company. Your position is not a throne. If you can't do it, report it early. There's no need to let the 'crown prince supervise the state' in advance."

Normally, the General Manager and Deputy General Manager would play good cop and bad cop, with the Deputy General Manager usually being the good cop. For some reason today, the man known as the "old good guy" was throwing such a tantrum.

After the meeting, Xiao Xun went to his temporary office on the fifth floor. Both department managers and employees were busy assembling their office computers.

Xiao Xun called the logistics department to request a new laptop, but they asked him to pick it up himself because a signature was required due to procedural matters.

With no other option, Xiao Xun headed to the logistics department's floor.

The logistics department looked like a large supermarket. Including the department director and manager, there were only six formal employees. However, these six individuals managed the entire building's security, cleaning, property maintenance, utilities, and public facilities. Oh, and the cafeteria.

It could be considered a very lucrative position, with significant income generated annually just from the gifts sent by various labor companies.

Xiao Xun spotted a staff member engrossed in their phone. "Hello, I'm Xiao Xun from the technical department. I'd like to collect a laptop."

Without even looking up, the staff member retrieved a form from a drawer and placed it on the desk.

"Fill out the form first."

Xiao Xun took a pen from the nearby pen holder, filled in the requisition information on the form, and then handed it to the staff member in front of him.

"It's filled out."

The other person glanced at it without looking and simply wrote "Approved," then signed their name.

"Take the form and go get our manager's signature!"

Xiao Xun hadn't expected getting a computer to be so troublesome. "Your manager?"

"Yes! He's in that office in the back."

While speaking, he kept his eyes fixed on his phone, fully absorbed.

Xiao Xun rubbed the bridge of his nose and slammed the table. "I'm very busy with work, give me a laptop quickly."

The department manager picked up the application form and said to the person on the phone with a smile, "Alright, I'll wait for you tonight. That's it! I still have some things to do, I'll hang up now."

He casually put down the phone, looked at the application form, and then glanced up at Xiao Xun, a young man in simple attire. "New here?"

Xiao Xun nodded. "It's my fourth day."

The department manager pushed the application form aside. His previously smiling, fleshy face immediately drooped, and his tone turned cold. "We just delivered a batch of computers to your technical department today. Why do you need another one? You can't work without a laptop? The company's resources are tight, so make do for now!"

Upon hearing this, Xiao Xun became furious, wanting to flip the table. "I can't make do. What's your attitude? I'm asking you to give it to me, and you're being so slow and hesitant."

The department manager, accustomed to being overbearing, had never encountered someone so defiant. "What's your attitude? Don't you know who I am?"

"And do you know who I am?"

The department manager stood up, pointed at Xiao Xun, and said, "I don't care who you are! If you dare to cause trouble in the logistics department, I'll make sure you regret it."

Saying that, he directly picked up the desk phone, dialed four digits, and said, "Hello? Security? Bring a few guards to my office. Someone is causing trouble here."

As soon as he hung up the phone, several security guards rushed over in a hurry. Seeing the security guards arrive, the department manager's expression became even more arrogant.

He imperiously instructed the belated security captain, "Drag him out."

The security captain looked somewhat embarrassed. "Manager, this is Director Xiao from the Technical Department."

Upon hearing "Director Xiao," the manager's mind went blank. This rank was considerably higher than his own, and the rumors about the company were varied.

It made him blurt out, "You, why aren't you wearing your employee ID while working?"

Xiao Xun took out his employee ID from his pocket. "Does it matter to you if I wear my ID or not? Are you getting too comfortable?"

The manager instantly started sweating profusely and tried to explain, "That, that's a misunderstanding, a complete misunderstanding. The logistics department has been extremely busy lately. Your technical department took all the laptops from inventory at once. Who would have thought someone of your rank would come in person? Usually, you'd just call or send an assistant."

After finishing, he picked up the phone again, trembling as he dialed a number. When the call was answered, his face instantly reverted to its previous demeanor, and his tone turned cold. "Immediately bring a laptop with the best configuration from our warehouse. Quickly."

The manager pushed his chair out from behind the desk and gestured for Xiao Xun to sit down. "Director Xiao, please have a seat. The computer will be here shortly. Please calm down, calm down."

The security guards who had shared drinks with Xiao Xun also helped the manager persuade him. "Sir, please calm down. Our Manager Yang is usually busy and deals with many people requesting items, so he can be a bit short-tempered."

Seeing that their attitude had improved, Xiao Xun, who wasn't one to press an advantage relentlessly, waved his hand. "Let's forget about this. If I still don't get the item, I'll go directly to the General Manager."

The security guards beside him offered cigarettes and poured water. Manager Yang rubbed his hands, looking at Xiao Xun with uncertainty.

At this moment, the person who had been playing with his phone at the door walked in carrying a laptop. "Manager, who is this computer for?"

Manager Yang's temper flared up upon seeing the warehouse keeper who had been playing with his phone at the door. If it weren't for him, Xiao Xun wouldn't have come to him for trouble.

He then slammed his fist on the table and pointed at the warehouse keeper's nose. "Xiao Liu, did you stuff your ears with donkey hair, or is your brain filled with paste? I told you to get a brand new computer, the best in our warehouse, and you're trying to fool me with this piece of junk?"

Xiao Liu and the other security guards were startled by Manager Yang's sudden outburst. Xiao Liu felt like leaving with the computer.

Manager Yang picked up a tissue from his desk and wiped the sweat from his face, saying to Xiao Xun, "The subordinates don't know how to handle things. Director Xiao, please don't mind. I will criticize them severely later."
