Jun Yelan tightened Lan Yan’s hand, his eyes filled with a resolve she had never seen before. “Yan’er,” he said, “I, Jun Yelan, swear this moment. If I do not die, I will protect you until my last breath.”
He hadn’t known why he lived before, abandoned by the Six Realms and even his own parents. But at this moment, his heart clearly understood: he lived for the person beside him.
Lan Yan nodded, a slight smile gracing her lips. She squeezed Jun Yelan’s hand in return. “Jun Yelan, as long as I live, I will not abandon you. We will live together, and we will die together.”
In this world, she was no longer a simple transmigration. Even if this mission was destined to fail, at least in this moment, she had truly saved Jun Yelan.
A mist of tears welled in Jun Yelan’s eyes. He pulled Lan Yan into an embrace, resting his head on her shoulder, his arms tightening as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones.
He lifted his head, his lips gently brushing her forehead before he pulled away. An overwhelming killing intent erupted from him.
Lan Yan stood beside him, a sword in her hand, fighting alongside Jun Yelan.
“Kill Jun Yelan, and this king shall reward you handsomely!” the Demon King declared, standing amidst a horde of demonic beasts, his gaze chillingly fixed on the scene before him. He not only wanted Jun Yelan dead but also Lan Yan, the one Jun Yelan cared for.
With a roar, various demonic beasts charged towards Jun Yelan, weapons in hand.
Jun Yelan swung his saber, felling the first wave of approaching beasts. The area around him transformed into a sea of blood, striking fear into the charging demons.
Seeing this, the Demon King shouted, “Charge! He is already heavily injured and cannot hold on much longer!” He urged the beasts beside him forward, his eyes blazing with madness.
The beasts dared not disobey, continuing their assault on Jun Yelan.
Jun Yelan’s eyes turned crimson once more. He slew wave after wave, his blue robes now stained entirely red. Yet, his gaze remained steadfast, holding his ground, refusing to let the beasts advance another step.
Behind him stood Lan Yan.
Lan Yan fought off numerous cultivators who tried to approach Jun Yelan from behind.
Gradually, both their stamina waned, and they leaned back-to-back, drawing strength from each other. As they turned their heads, they offered each other a faint smile.
With a clear purpose, they charged forward without hesitation.
The Demon King and the Spirit Mountain Sect Leader sent forces to attack from both sides. Witnessing their blood-stained clothes and faces, their trembling hands, they felt victory was near.
At that moment, a new wave of demonic beasts arrived from the distance, heading towards the Demon King.
Jun Yelan watched the Demon King’s stunned reaction, a smile curving his lips. “They’re finally here,” he murmured. He grasped Lan Yan’s hand, a hint of a smile in his eyes, reassuring her that all was well.
Lan Yan immediately understood. This was Jun Yelan’s contingency. She smiled back, “Now we’ve turned the tables.”
Seeing the two who were moments away from defeat now smiling, the Demon King’s eyes blazed with fury. “Damn it!” He turned to the oncoming beasts, only to see his own half-brother leading them. Rage surged through him.
The demonic beasts attacking Jun Yelan were caught up by those behind them, forced to fight their own kind. However, having already been injured by Jun Yelan, they were no match for their pursuers.
Chaos erupted on the Demon King’s side, leaving him no time to deal with Jun Yelan.
Jun Yelan seized the opportunity, attacking the cultivators and scattering them like dust.
The cultivators either fled or died, while the remaining ones hid behind the Spirit Mountain Sect Leader. The Spirit Mountain Sect Leader, his eyes filled with reluctance, attempted to attack Jun Yelan again but was stopped by the True Person Feng Qing beside him.
“Senior Brother, we must go! So many demonic beasts will attack us,” True Person Feng Qing called out.
The Spirit Mountain Sect Leader could only clench his fists and shout in frustration, “Retreat!” He could not let the cultivation world be destroyed here and led his remaining disciples away.
True Person Feng Qing pulled Lin Qian with him and cast a sighing glance at the incredibly weakened Lan Yan behind them before leaving. His master-disciple bond with Lan Yan had ended!
Seeing this, Lan Yan breathed a sigh of relief, her body slumping. Jun Yelan caught her by the shoulders. Seeing his worried expression, she forced a smile.
“I’m alright, just a bit tired.”
A pang of pain shot through Jun Yelan’s heart. Lan Yan was covered in bloodstains, all shed for him. He no longer cared about the chaotic battlefield, scooped Lan Yan into his arms, and took flight with the wings behind him.
He accelerated towards the direction of the Wolf Tribe, his arms instinctively tightening around the person in his embrace. He could feel Lan Yan’s extreme weakness, her life held only by a thread.
“Yan’er, don’t sleep. You still need to pick up Momo.”
“Okay.” Lan Yan’s eyelids drooped, her hands clutching the front of Jun Yelan’s robes, struggling to stay conscious. But her head was swimming, and her body ached, and gradually, her eyes closed.
She thought she would just sleep for a bit and go pick up Momo later.
“Yan’er!” Jun Yelan’s eyes darkened. Seeing no response from the person in his arms, he gritted his teeth and sped up. His wings were already tattered, and blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
He casually wiped his mouth, his gaze falling on Lan Yan’s face. His red eyes were filled with fear and worry. He thought that if Lan Yan died here, he would fall with her.
After a long while, he landed in the Wolf Tribe’s territory with Lan Yan in his arms, his voice low as he called out, “Save her!”
The wolf tribesmen immediately summoned the wolf shaman. Upon arrival, the wolf shaman exclaimed, “What happened to these two!” He quickly had someone call for the witch doctor and stepped forward to support Jun Yelan.
Jun Yelan’s hands remained tightly clasped around Lan Yan until the witch doctor arrived, after which he collapsed to the ground.
The wolf shaman immediately helped both of them inside and instructed the witch doctor, “Witch doctor, these two are my leaders. You must save them!” If Jun Yelan hadn’t spoken earlier, he might have thought they were already dead.
“Wolf King, I will do my best.” The witch doctor began treating Lan Yan’s injuries, then moved to treat Jun Yelan’s.
When he first arrived, he had seen how protectively the man held the woman and assumed he wanted the woman to survive first.
The wolf shaman could only wait outside, praying for their safety.
The witch doctor continued the treatment until nightfall, stating, “I have done all I can. Whether they live depends on their will.” He then shook his head and left, noting that the man had a better foundation, but the woman’s body was already depleted.
The wolf shaman was helpless and kept watch at the door.
In the middle of the night, Jun Yelan’s eyes fluttered open. He looked at the unfamiliar ceiling, realization dawning, and called out, “Yan’er!” He turned his head and saw Lan Yan lying beside him, relief washing over him.
But the next instant, he could only hear Lan Yan’s shallow breaths, as if she were about to vanish. His pupils trembled. As he sat up, his wounds flared, and he collapsed to his knees beside the bed.
His hands trembled as he grasped Lan Yan’s hand, tears welling in his eyes. “Yan’er!” he cried.
