Wang Huixin quickly and successfully registered for an appointment.
Lin Feng did not approach Wang Huixin to greet her. Instead, he silently followed behind her, keeping an eye on her movements.
After registering, Wang Huixin's expression was somewhat dejected.
She seemed to know her condition. She went to the CT room with practiced ease and had a scan of her brain taken.
Then, holding the scan, she sought out a neurosurgery specialist.
"Ms. Wang, your condition has worsened considerably. I strongly recommend chemotherapy immediately. Otherwise, I really can't continue prescribing medication for you."
The doctor advised kindly after reviewing the scan.
"Dr. Li, I know my condition. Even with chemotherapy, I won't live much longer."
"My daughter-in-law is five months pregnant and due in another five months."
"I implore you to continue prescribing conservative medication for me. As long as I can hold on until my daughter-in-law gives birth, I will die in peace."
Wang Huixin pleaded.
"Ms. Wang, I still advise chemotherapy. At least this way, you might live for another year or so. With conservative treatment, I cannot guarantee you'll make it through five months."
"Perhaps you should discuss this with your family. This is a significant matter, and you should inform your son."
Dr. Li perceived Wang Huixin's predicament, but as a doctor, he had a duty to his patient.
"Dr. Li, please just do as I say. I'll live as long as I can. I don't want my son to know about my illness."
"It's because I owe him too much, and I don't want to burden him with my troubles."
"I just want to share some of the pressure for my son during my remaining time. If I can witness my son having descendants, I can rest easy even in death."
Wang Huixin offered a smile of relief.
Lin Feng, standing outside the door, heard Wang Huixin's words. The tears that had welled up in his eyes could no longer be contained and poured forth.
He was not a cold-hearted person. The reason he had refused to acknowledge Wang Huixin as his mother was his inability to accept her abandonment.
Now, seeing someone with a terminal illness willing to shorten her own life just to help him care for Tang Wan, he felt an unbearable ache in his heart.
He even had the urge to rush in and embrace Wang Huixin, to call her "Mom."
But his pride prevented him.
"Ms. Wang, since you insist, I will prescribe some medication for you."
"However, if you have an episode next time, you must undergo chemotherapy immediately. Otherwise, even a divine physician's return would be powerless to turn the tide."
Dr. Li wrote out a prescription and handed it to Wang Huixin.
"Thank you, Dr. Li."
Wang Huixin bowed to Dr. Li and left politely.
Seeing Wang Huixin emerge, Lin Feng immediately wiped his tears and hid.
Wang Huixin went to the pharmacy to collect her medication for brain cancer. Habitually, she peeled off the packaging.
Then, feigning normalcy, she headed towards the prenatal check-up area.
"Auntie Wang, what did the doctor say? Is your health alright?"
Tang Wan inquired with concern.
"It's nothing. The doctor said I have a bit of low blood sugar; I just need to take some medicine."
"Let's go in for the prenatal check-up quickly."
Wang Huixin smiled and helped Tang Wan up, guiding her into the examination room.
Seeing Wang Huixin's thoughtful actions, Lin Feng felt an even deeper pang of sadness.
Tang Wan seemed to sense that Lin Feng was hiding and reluctant to face Wang Huixin directly.
After the prenatal check-up, Tang Wan sent Wang Huixin away.
"Lin Feng, you can come out now. Auntie Wang has gone to get my medicine."
Tang Wan called out.
Lin Feng emerged from the corner, his eyes slightly red.
"My dear little brother Lin Feng, what's wrong? You don't look very happy."

Tang Wan intentionally tried to cheer Lin Feng up.

"Sad? Are you sad about Auntie Wang?"

"Yes. Don't you think she's foolish? Refusing the position of Madam Lin, insisting on staying by my side as an old nanny."

Lin Feng nodded. "Yes. My mother has brain cancer. She lied to you about having low blood sugar. The doctor told her to have chemotherapy, but she wants to stay with you until you give birth."

"But if I don't acknowledge her, I feel I'm being a bit cruel."
Lin Feng confessed his inner turmoil to Tang Wan, and on his lips, he had already begun to refer to Wang Huixin as Mom.

Soon, Wang Huixin returned with Tang Wan's medicine.

She seemed a bit embarrassed. Looking at Lin Feng, who was so close, even walking felt heavy.

"If you feel I'm getting too close to Xiao Wan, I'll keep my distance from her in the future."
Wang Huixin said nervously, genuinely fearing that Lin Feng would be angry and ask her to leave.
Lin Feng looked at his somewhat fearful old mother before him, his eyes filling with tears once more.
Tang Wan felt a pang of unease and forced a smile, "Auntie Wang, Lin Feng isn't trying to make you leave. When you were getting the medicine just now, Lin Feng called you Mom."

Tang Wan gave Lin Feng a look, signaling him to quickly acknowledge Wang Huixin.
Wang Huixin froze for a moment, disbelief coloring her expression. "Lin Feng, is Xiao Wan telling the truth? Did you really call me Mom?"
