Chapter 148: Chapter 148: Caleb Green’s Attitude, Mr. Jing: Bring Them Back
Madeline Ziegler grabbed something and hurled it at him, but Caleb Green responded with a cold shoulder.
The servants witnessing the scene felt a shiver of fear, unsure whether to linger in the hall.
Madeline’s weathered face twisted with rage as she smashed everything breakable in the hall, completely losing her composure like a madwoman.
The grandson she took pride in refused to help.
She always felt that marrying into the Green Estate didn’t mean forgetting to help her brother and family back home.
After all, it was the family that birthed and raised her, and more so, her parents had told her since childhood to always take care of her brother.
No, she couldn’t let the Ziegler family go down.
Madeline’s rationality slowly returned, and she became once more the dignified, elegant lady.
She dialed a number, and as soon as it connected, she hurriedly spoke, "Manager Lin, take a team and get the contract signed with the Ziegler family."
Lin Star on the other end seemed unsurprised by this call, neutrally refusing, "Sorry madam, Mr. Green instructed not to intervene in any matters concerning the Ziegler family."
And to cancel all contracts with the Ziegler family.
Of course, he didn’t have the nerve to say that to Madeline, but why would Mr. Green suddenly act this way?
Lin Star pondered, unable to comprehend.
"What are you saying," Madeline’s voice was hoarse, "say it again."
"No matter how many times I repeat, Mr. Green’s orders won’t change, and I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll hang up now."
Lin Star politely ended the call, not caring if Madeline hated him for it.
He worked for Mr. Green, not some old woman; why would he defy the heir of Green Estate?
"Manager Lin, was it a call from the Green family?"
An employee nearby, seeing his expression, couldn’t help but ask curiously.
Lin Star nodded, "Yep, asking me to go sign a contract. Do I look stupid?"
The employee heard this and was speechless, "That old lady from the Green family is truly a veteran enabler. Doesn’t she realize that if the company really helped, Mr. Julian might come after them?"
Currently, everyone knows who’s behind the Ziegler family’s troubles, who would dare help them now?
"Sigh," Lin Star sighed, "I really wonder what the old master saw in her."
Finally, he waved his hand, "You can go now."
...
Madeline looked incredulously at her hung-up phone, mocking in anger, "Great, now even an employee dares hang up on me."
Suddenly.
A familiar number called again.
"Sis, didn’t you say you’d handle it? Why has the Green company cut off all contracts with us?"
After hearing this.
Madeline stood up abruptly, feeling dizzy as the world spun, collapsing onto the floor.
The maid, witnessing Madeline faint, turned pale and panicked.
"Madam."
"Quick, call the young master."
The person on the other end didn’t hear a response but instead heard some chaotic noise, and his tone turned harsh, "Say something, are you playing me on purpose with those contracts."
After a while.
Still no response, he grumbled curses and hung up.
Caleb Green was urgently called by the maid, and upon seeing the fainted elder downstairs, he felt nothing.
"Have the driver take her to the hospital."
Differing from his usual warm demeanor, his eyebrows were indifferent, and his voice carried a hint of coldness.
Soon, news of the old lady from Green Estate being hospitalized spread quickly.
...
Julian Sia heard the news and said meaningfully, "Hospitalized? Quite a coincidence."
His left hand rubbed his palm, a lazy voice laced with intrigue.
"They say it’s because young Green wouldn’t handle Ziegler affairs and even canceled previous collaborations, causing the old lady to faint from the shock."
Charles Jordan shared the news, eliciting laughter from Mason Quinn and George Xyler.
"Tsk tsk, Caleb really played this well."
Mason mused, stroking his chin thoughtfully.
"About time," George smiled, "Charles, how’s the investigation going?"
Charles’s expression turned serious upon hearing that, recalling the clues he found.
"Seventeen years ago, before Miss Green disappeared, the old lady frequently met with a man named Wang, whom I found to be a relative from the Ziegler side."
With that said.
Mason and the others’ expressions became intriguing.
Why would a wealthy old lady frequently meet with a Ziegler relative?
It indeed seemed Julian’s guess was right, and Claire Green’s disappearance was somehow linked to the old lady.
"Where is this person now?"
Julian’s eyes flashed with coldness, his voice steady.
"At the Ziegler residence."
"Bring the person over."
Charles hesitated briefly, then promptly left.
"Today’s quite eventful. First, Julian severed all ties with the Ziegler, now he’s sending people to grab someone. Who would dare look the Ziegler’s way now?"
Mason lounged with hands behind his head, legs casually crossed on the coffee table, speaking with schadenfreude.
"Lucky that Mr. Green isn’t around; otherwise, with Julien’s actions, he might’ve come with a stick." George teased, eyeing Julian slowly.
Mr. Green was a decorated veteran who retired late in life.
He was recently invited to visit the army, supposedly to see the new recruits.
Thinking of Mr. Green’s temperament, Julian chuckled quietly.
The elder was always upright; this time, he might show bias.
...
"What are you doing?"
Jonathan Ziegler angrily demanded as a group barged into his home.
The Ziegler family was a top-tier clan, having never faced such circumstances.
"No need to rush, Mr. Ziegler. We’re just looking for someone; go about your business."
Charles strolled in, hands in pockets, speaking openly rude phrases.
Seeing him, Jonathan immediately felt uneasy.
If Charles was here, it surely meant Julian ordered it.
Looking for someone, could they know about what happened seventeen years ago?
Jonathan grew increasingly anxious, palms sweaty.
Noticing his expression, Charles sneered and decided to take him along as well.
"Why are you arresting me? Watch out, I’ll call the police."
A sharp voice yanked Jonathan back to reality, and upon seeing the person, despair washed over him.
Indeed.
"Call the police," Charles grabbed his chin, "try it, see who’d dare meddle in Julian’s affairs."
With that said.
Wang trembled like a leaf, his face turning pale as he recalled Madeline’s mention of a girl over the phone last night.
Impossible, how could they trace it to him?
"Julian’s breaking the law," Wang gripped his palm, yelling.
Who’d imagine.
Charles chuckled, "Breaking the law, hardly. Our Julian just wants a chat with you."
The word ’chat’ sent a spike of fear through Wang.
"Bring Mr. Ziegler along."
Having said that, he took his leave.
