Guo Xuyang brought up the millet congee he had just finished cooking.
"Why did it take so long? I'm starving," Li Minxi said.
"It has to cook until the millet congee is done before I can bring it to you. Wu Jia and the others came by earlier and asked me to put a few dates in for you, saying they nourish qi and blood. Try it and see how it is."
"It's too hot, just put it down to cool for a bit. Didn't you say you wanted them to report tomorrow? Why did they come today?"
"They moved their things to the room on the west side today. I've already had Brother Seven help them change the beds."
"Still got so many demands, and they don't want to sleep in the same bed as others," Li Minxi pouted.
"It's good this way, we bought two bunk beds. If more people come back, that room can accommodate them."
"Didn't you say Li Xiaolu also recommended two people?"
"Yes. Hu Jun hurt his knee and has been recuperating in the dormitory these past two days, so she hasn't gone to work.
"Didn't you say it wasn't a serious injury at the time? Why is she so delicate? If she comes here later, can she handle it?"
"It's not heavy work to look after you, it's just holding Xiao Bao and washing clothes, what can't she handle?"
"That's hard to say. Can they handle my temper?"
"Aren't you pregnant? Your temper will get better after you have Xiao Bao. This is typical pregnancy mood swings, being irritable is understandable."
"It's not pregnancy mood swings, it's you making me angry. The other day, before it even got warm, someone called you away. You have to serve me well today."
"Will you be comfortable like this? Didn't the doctor say no strenuous activity? Restrain yourself for a few days, and I'll serve you once things stabilize."
"You can't go back on your word. Especially Li Xiaolu, the way she looks at you, it's like she wants to devour you."
"Am I that kind of person? Didn't I tell you when I went down earlier that Brother Seven has taken a liking to the newly arrived Wu Jia?"
"Yes, what about it?"
"The two of them started chatting, and it went quite well."
"They started chatting after only meeting a few times? This Wu Jia is not a simple person either," Li Minxi scoffed.
"They didn't chat too deeply. It's just that they have a mutual good impression of each other."
"That's a good thing. It would be great if it works out."
"Didn't you say this woman is not a simple person?"
"Isn't it better if someone can keep her in check? Besides, I'll save a lot of trouble. Less worry about certain individuals always having ulterior motives."
"What do you take me for?"
"A scumbag. A typical scumbag, the kind who can't move his legs when he sees a beautiful woman."
"Fine. You're the boss now, whatever you say goes. The congee has cooled down, drink it quickly. It won't feel good on your stomach if it's too cold." Guo Xuyang held up the millet congee.
Li Minxi tasted a mouthful and said, "Not bad. It's almost as good as Mom's cooking. It's just that you didn't pit the dates, so I'll have to spit out the pits."
"Should I bite the pits out for you?"
"Forget it. I don't want to eat your saliva."
"You dislike me now, so if Xiao Bao comes back, won't you dislike me even more?"
"What are you talking about? When did I ever dislike you?" Li Minxi protested.
"If you don't dislike me, then why say you don't want to eat my saliva?"
"Aren't you disgusted? You want to bite the pits out for me? You want me to eat what you've eaten and spat out?"
"Didn't you say the dates weren't pitted? If not with your mouth, then with what?"
"I'm not talking to you anymore. Besides, I really can't drink this congee. I'm starving."
"There's still beef and mutton downstairs, do you want some? If you want it, I'll heat it up for you."
"Not anymore. It's good if I can finish this millet congee. My appetite has been poor these few days."
"If your appetite were good, this entire pot of millet congee wouldn't be enough for you. Poor appetite? How much can a healthy person drink?" Guo Xuyang retorted.
"How many bowls is this?"
"I scooped out a full bowl of millet to make this congee, do you have any idea how many bowls you've had?"
"This bowl is so small. You should find a bigger one," Li Minxi said, holding up the small bowl.
The bowl was indeed a bit small, about the size of a small stainless steel bowl for children. It was made of exquisite ceramic, as white as snow. The millet congee and the white ceramic bowl complemented each other, and with a couple of red dates, it was even more pleasing to the eye.
