Chapter 79 Distress

Through Song Pinxuan’s introduction, Tang Li finally understood.

Mechs were another application of brain-computer interfaces.

Unlike mechanical exoskeletons that were worn on a person’s body and moved with it, mechs were generally much larger than a person. They didn't need to fit snugly against the body and could be controlled directly by thought, without needing synchronized body movements.

It was much like the robot avatars Tang Li had previously imagined.

However, because remote control wasn't possible, the person was placed inside the mech.

Mechs also came in many types: engineering mechs were for construction, and combat mechs were for fighting.

In addition, there were diving mechs, space mechs, transport mechs, and more, applicable to various fields.

However, combat mechs were still under development, so Tang Li couldn't use them yet.

She didn't tell Song Pinxuan about being followed by people from Country R.

After getting the weapon components for the mechanical exoskeleton from Song Pinxuan, Tang Li left.

It was already noon.

Peng Yue and the other team members had lunch at the Mercenary Guild.

Tang Li, however, went home first and had lunch with Tang Guo and Peng Yixuan.

At the same time, she told them about the people from Country R monitoring and following her, urging them to be careful too.

During this period, Peng Yixuan, having nothing else to do at home, had been going out with Tang Guo.

Upon hearing Tang Li's warning, she immediately patted her chest and assured her, "Junior Sister, don't worry. Senior Sister will protect Sister Tang Guo well."

Seeing her like this, Tang Li couldn't help but chuckle.

After lunch, Tang Li didn't linger at home. She drove straight back to the Mercenary Guild at Jiangcheng Shelter No. 5.

On the way, Tang Li noticed that more cars were following her.

Tang Li couldn't help but feel troubled.

These followers were not just the four she had killed; there were many more.

If she didn't deal with the people behind them who wished her harm, no matter how many followers she killed, it would be futile.

This was especially true for those monitoring her home from the tall buildings near the villa district.

Although most of Tang Li's balcony and stairs were covered by solar panels, there were still places where light could pass through.

Even within her own home, Tang Li didn't feel safe, and it was a very unpleasant feeling.

Moreover, no matter when Tang Li went out, she would be discovered and followed.

This made it inconvenient for Tang Li to do many things.

Tang Li knew that rashly killing the four followers that morning would alert the enemy, letting the people behind them know that she had noticed she was being tracked. However, Tang Li had no choice but to deal with them first.

After all, Tang Li couldn't expose her black market identity to them.

Dealing with followers once or twice was fine.

But if it happened too many times, the people from Country R behind these followers would surely realize that she had discovered she was being tracked.

Then, they might resort to desperate measures and take more aggressive actions.

Tang Li disliked being in such a passive situation.

"How about striking first? I'll go directly to the Jiangcheng Research Institute and kill those two professors named Tanaka and Watanabe?"

As soon as this thought arose, Tang Li dismissed it.

The Jiangcheng Research Institute was a military-controlled zone with army protection; she couldn't possibly infiltrate it. Even if she managed to get in, she wouldn't be able to kill Tanaka and Watanabe under the protection of the army.

Tang Li looked at the tall buildings next to her villa again.

"Tonight, I'll start with this surveillance outpost on my home, interrogate the people inside, and try to find out who is behind these followers."

Although she knew that Tanaka and Watanabe wanted to capture her for experiments, the fact that they could deploy so many personnel indicated that the people behind them were definitely more than just these two.

Even if she couldn't kill Tanaka and Watanabe, removing the others might make the people behind these followers hesitate.

Thinking this way, Tang Li returned to the Mercenary Guild.

During the noon of the extreme heat season, the temperature was scorching. Coupled with the sun's glare, the shooting range was uninhabitable.

At this moment, everyone had returned indoors.

Fortunately, there were many buildings adjacent to the racetrack, enough to accommodate these mercenaries.

The former athlete apartments had also been converted into mercenary apartments. The Peng family team resided in a few of these apartments.

Given that it was all male residents inside, Tang Li did not go in. Instead, she made a phone call and asked Peng Yue to come out.

She went directly back to the main hall of the Mercenary Guild, preparing to undergo combat power assessment.
