Chapter 32 Conscripted Houses

“Wait a moment!”

Tang Li quickly recalled the ice, power banks, and fans in the room back into her space.

Fortunately, after the thunderstorm stopped, Tang Li had restored the living room to normal. The water saved before the heavy rain began had also been stored in her space. She hadn't touched her parents' bedroom, so it wouldn't take long to make the house look as it did before.

After changing her clothes, Tang Li opened the door.

“I’m so sorry for making you wait.”

“It was very hot, and I was dressed casually at home. I just changed into some decent clothes, which took a little time.”

Outside the door were two uniformed personnel on duty for martial law.

Tang Li explained as she welcomed them into her home.

“It’s no trouble. We came without notice and disturbed you.”

The duty personnel said, handing a piece of paper to Tang Li.

“Ms. Tang Li, this is what we’ve found. You own several properties that were not flooded, and we will be temporarily requisitioning them. This is the requisition voucher. Please take a look.”

The duty personnel were matter-of-fact and got straight to the point without any pleasantries.

Tang Li also cut to the chase, taking the requisition voucher and starting to read it.

The requisition voucher was also concise. The longest part was the list of Tang Li’s properties.

Tang Li scanned it. There were several high-rise apartments in the city center, a residential unit on the 10th floor or higher, and the villa she had purchased the day before the catastrophe began.

All of Tang Li’s properties that had not been flooded were listed, with no omissions.

“What about the previous occupants of these houses?”

Although she had asked this question in her previous life, Tang Li still feigned ignorance and asked again.

“A severe incident occurred where these apartments are located, and all the residents inside have perished. As for the tenants in this residential unit, their lease should have expired last month?”

“Housing is now very tight. Even families with outstanding mortgage payments have to accommodate disaster victims according to their repayment ratio, let alone those living in rented accommodation.”

“Since their leases have expired, compensation doesn’t need to be paid to them directly. It can be given to you, the owner, instead.”

As expected, she received the same answer as in her previous life.

Tang Li nodded in understanding and then, pretending to be unaware, asked, “Compensation? How?”

The duty personnel took out two more pieces of paper and explained, “We have two compensation methods: installment compensation and lump-sum compensation.”

“For installment compensation, we provide 10 points of material distribution vouchers per person per month, based on the actual number of people accommodated in the house that month. You can collect them once a month.”

“For lump-sum compensation, we provide 100 points of material distribution vouchers per person that the house can accommodate, which you receive directly, and there will be no further compensation afterward.”

“Material distribution vouchers are temporary currency issued by the state during the martial law period. One point is equivalent to the food an adult needs for one meal.”

“As for the number of people a house can accommodate, it will be determined based on the actual situation. On average, one person is accommodated for every 10 square meters.”

Tang Li already knew all of this from her previous life, so she didn’t ask any more questions.

“Let’s go with the lump-sum compensation, it’s less hassle,” Tang Li said.

In reality, the final compensation amount for both options was roughly the same.

After the major earthquake in September of next year, these houses would all be reduced to rubble.

Even if she chose installment compensation, it would stop in 11 months.

Choosing lump-sum compensation allowed her to receive the points all at once, without having to collect them monthly.

Therefore, Tang Li chose lump-sum compensation without hesitation.

Hearing this, the duty personnel immediately took out the lump-sum compensation agreement and handed it to Tang Li along with the requisition voucher.

“Ms. Tang Li, thank you for your cooperation. After we calculate the number of people that can be accommodated, we will issue the corresponding amount of material distribution vouchers to you.”

They then prepared to leave.

Tang Li quickly asked, “I still have a warehouse full of supplies in the suburbs. Do those need to be requisitioned too?”

The two duty personnel exchanged glances and asked, “What kind of supplies are they?”

When Tang Li mentioned that the warehouse contained rice, biscuits, instant noodles, and first-aid kits, their eyes immediately lit up.

“Ms. Tang Li, these are precisely the supplies we urgently need!”
