The first light of dawn

Chapter 541 Mu Jiuchen, The Disliked One

Mu Jiu Chen suddenly looked over and saw Jiang Nuan weakly supporting the doorframe. She had become much thinner, with hardly any flesh on her face, yet she was still beautiful. Her eyes appeared even brighter.

Their eyes met. Jiang Nuan looked at Mu Jiu Chen in the morning light with surprise and shock. His upright figure, with his features obscured, his imposing presence, disdainful of everything, and his captivating gaze.

Jiang Nuan smiled. Was she missing him too much?

A hallucination appeared first thing in the morning.

"Mu Jiu Chen," she called out weakly. She had always remembered this man; he was the man she loved most.

This morning, she felt like she had forgotten many things again.

What was wrong with her?

She wasn't taking any medicine, yet she was in this state.

She even wondered if she had become Han Yi Fan's test subject.

She had underestimated the kindness of human nature. In the morning light, the boy with light in his eyes was incredibly charming.

"Nuan Nuan," Han Yi Fan turned to help her.

However, a dark shadow embraced Jiang Nuan faster than him.

Falling into a warm embrace, Jiang Nuan smiled with relief. She looked up and met Mu Jiu Chen's dark, deep gaze. She was as frail as a wilting rose, "Mu Jiu Chen, am I dreaming? I think I dreamed of you."

She finished speaking with a smile and snuggled into his arms. This familiar feeling felt so real.

Mu Jiu Chen looked at her weak and distressed appearance, his heart aching with both pain and anger.

He held her tightly, the joy of finding her again filling his heart. Holding her, he realized that the longing he had felt all this time had finally been eased, like finding an outlet. All his longing poured out at once.

He took a deep breath, feeling her presence.

After a long moment, he gritted his teeth and said, "You're not dreaming, I'm here." His gaze rested on her with unending tenderness.

Jiang Nuan was startled. She looked at him blankly for a moment. In his ink-black eyes, she saw familiar gentleness.

She slowly reached out her pale hand to caress his handsome face. He had become much thinner, his face even more angular.

"Why are you here?" Jiang Nuan asked with a smile. In the morning light, her skin was transparently white.

As soon as Mu Jiu Chen heard this, his handsome face immediately fell. Just as he was about to get angry, he heard her say lightly, "Mu Jiu Chen, I missed you so much."

All his anger vanished instantly.

He picked her up horizontally. Just as he turned, Han Yi Fan blocked him. Mu Jiu Chen's sharp gaze fell upon Han Yi Fan.

Han Yi Fan was not intimidated by Mu Jiu Chen. They met each other's gaze for a moment before Han Yi Fan looked at the frail Jiang Nuan and said, "Nuan Nuan, you must stay for treatment. I won't let anything happen to you."

Jiang Nuan smiled at him. The smile was tinged with misery and paleness. "Yi Fan, I'm sorry, but I want to leave with the one I love."

Veins immediately bulged on Han Yi Fan's forehead, and his fists clenched involuntarily. He stared at her intently. "Nuan Nuan, we agreed to go back together."

Jiang Nuan shook her head slightly. "I can't go back to study like this. I'll tell you when I feel better."

"Nuan Nuan, you need to receive treatment now, you can't leave," Han Yi Fan yelled at her angrily. "My great-grandfather entrusted you to me, and I won't let anyone take you away."

Jiang Nuan had never seen Han Yi Fan angry before.

"I'll call you in a few days. He's not an ordinary person either; he's my future husband." After speaking, Jiang Nuan leaned back in Mu Jiu Chen's arms.

When Mu Jiu Chen heard the word "husband," all his grievances and anger vanished at that moment, transforming into boundless tenderness that enveloped Jiang Nuan.

His triumphant gaze swept over Han Yi Fan. He strode past him, carrying Jiang Nuan.

Han Yi Fan did not stop them, fearing Jiang Nuan would become suspicious. She would eventually return here, he was confident.

She couldn't endure this torment, especially after recovering from a serious illness.

Mu Jiu Chen carefully placed Jiang Nuan on the back seat, then sat in and held her. His movements were gentle, as if he were afraid of hurting her. She looked far too weak.

Yun Sen told the bodyguards to retreat and quickly got into the driver's seat to drive.

"Master, where are we going?" Yun Sen boldly asked. The atmosphere in the car was too peculiar.

Mu Jiu Chen said in a deep voice, "To Wei Cheng Castle."

"Alright." Wei Cheng Castle was indeed the closest place.

Jiang Nuan leaned into Mu Jiu Chen's embrace, closing her eyes. She didn't want to say anything.

She just wanted to close her eyes and rest.

Mu Jiu Chen also said nothing, holding her quietly, feeling her warmth and her presence.

The roads in Qi Country were wide and usually not congested. Half an hour later, they arrived at Mu Jiu Chen's Qi Country villa area, Wei Cheng Castle.

It was a white castle-like building, not very large, but with excellent surrounding facilities.

The environment was beautiful, with roses of different colors, bougainvillea, and various exotic flowers and plants, decorating the garden exquisitely.

Mu Jiu Chen, carrying the silent Jiang Nuan, got out of the car and took her to a room on the second floor.

He had the most businesses in Qi Country and often traveled there on business. If his work was nearby, he would choose to stay here.

The place was cleaned daily. The all-white decor on both sides, however, surprised Jiang Nuan; it didn't quite fit Mu Jiu Chen's personality.

The room on the second floor faced the front courtyard.

Standing by the window, the beautiful scenery of the garden was fully visible.

Jiang Nuan lay on the soft, large bed, closing her eyes to rest.

She was woken by an alarm. Otherwise, she wouldn't have known Mu Jiu Chen had arrived.

Mu Jiu Chen looked at her frail appearance with great concern.

He quickly changed into casual clothes in the walk-in closet. After coming out, he got into bed, lay beside Jiang Nuan, and held her in his arms.

The spacious and desolate room became warm because of the two people embracing.

Jiang Nuan slowly opened her eyes, squinted, and said to him, "Mu Jiu Chen."

"Mmm!" Mu Jiu Chen replied, then lowered his head and kissed her lips. They were a little dry, but as beautiful as ever.

Jiang Nuan's body was too weak, so he dared not do anything more. After a brief kiss, he looked at her, unable to tear his eyes away.

Jiang Nuan looked at his focused expression and smiled foolishly, "I haven't washed my face or brushed my teeth."

Mu Jiu Chen looked at her angrily, "I don't mind."

Jiang Nuan nudged his arm slightly and said weakly, "But I do. You smell of sweat too."

Mu Jiu Chen, who had been rejected: "..."

He sniffed himself. He did have a bit of an odor. He had come all night without showering, washing his face, or brushing his teeth, solely focused on seeing her as soon as possible.

"I'll go wash up and be right back."

Jiang Nuan, however, held him back and looked at him very seriously, "Mu Jiu Chen, my memory keeps fading. Every time I wake up, I feel like I've forgotten a lot of things."

Mu Jiu Chen's heart suddenly tightened. He stared at her intently without speaking.

A hint of coldness flashed in Jiang Nuan's eyes. "I suspect the medicine Han Yi Fan gave me is problematic."
