Chapter 65: Chapter 65: $4,000 For A Night With Her
"I actually have a bit of money saved."
Slowly, after holding back for what seemed like an eternity, Sophie finally disclosed her secret stash of cash.
This amount was not large, but it had been accumulated through years of strict living on frugality.
"How much?" Vicky eyes immediately flashed with greed, though he soon tried to conceal his eagerness, making an effort to keep a nonchalant tone in his voice.
"Not much... only just a bit over fifty thousand dollars," Sophie answered truthfully.
She had intended to hold this money as her final safety stash in case of any emergencies for her security.
"I cannot take that much money from you," He spoke firmly, his head shaking as if in righteous denial. "I am a man with feet and hands, how could I spend the money you struggled so hard to save?
I have not even done anything for you, yet you’re going to give me a helping hand when things are tough... i will feel guilty for it."
Even though his words sounded sincere, deep down he craved that money more than anything.
But he also knew that rushing now would ruin everything. So he deliberately put on a show of "hard to get," laying the trap patiently.
Inside, he was laughing.
She is so dumb, he thought to himself. All I had to do was act poor, and she fell for it. This fifty thousand is probably all of her money, the remainder of what she has. I’ll cheat her out of it and leave.
The world out there is vast and vibrant—why would I squander my youth on a boring, unexciting woman like her?
The more he pretended to be humble and rejected, the more Sophie was touched.
She believed Vicky was a good man, not greedy, not the type who would exploit her. That only made her heart yearn more for him.
Several times, Sophie almost pushed her bank card into his palms.
However, it was at that precise moment when Vicky had his hand extended to grab Sophie’s bank card that a sudden sound of an engine echoed all through the street.
"Screeech—!"
A shiny, sleek but luxurious Bentley pulled up beside them, its shiny body glinting in the sunlight like polished silver.
The abrupt deceleration caused some of the pedestrians walking by to look in their direction.
"Bentley!" someone exclaimed.
Vicky stiffened, his hand remaining halfway towards Sophie’s bank card.
His eyes immediately widened with greed and curiosity.
"This... this sort of luxury car—I’ve only ever heard of it in magazines or films!" he mumbled under his breath, half-drooling.
He did not know how much exactly a Bentley cost, but he knew by instinct—it was sure to be several million at the bare minimum.
For some lowlife like him, cheating and swindling people throughout his life would still not bring in enough to lay hands on such a car, let alone possess it.
Even if, by some quirk of fate, he managed to scrape up the money to purchase it, the mere consideration of the cost of maintaining it was appalling.
Insurance, gas, maintenance—just one faulty component could ruin him.
"Luxury cars aren’t just about buying them after all," Vicky thought bitterly, "they’re about affording to keep them alive."
Just then, the driver’s door clicked open.
A tall figure stepped out from it.
It was a young man, dressed in a Armani suit, hair primly combed, sunglasses placed with air of confident nonchalance.
The edges of his mouth were slightly curled into a faint, confident smile, radiating a tranquil yet compelling presence.
His entire attitude shrieked of status, grace, and something unattainable to a ordinary person.
He was none other than Alex.
Of course neither Sophie nor Vicky knew who this young man was.
Satyansh had never introduced Alex to Sophie and based on knowing of Alex usual low key conduct, he wasn’t someone that Satyansh would casually boast about either.
But Sophie’s heart skipped a beat at this moment.
Her eyes went wide with surprise at seeing such a luxurious car.
The young man is so handsome, that thought almost escaped her from her mouth.
She couldn’t help but think, This man... he’s more good-looking than the male stars I used to watch on TV dramas.
His aura was different too, not the artificial demeanour of an actor, but the confidence of a man who instinctively demanded respect. And that Bentley he had just emerged from...
Her eyes kept sparkling more and more brightly.
Such a good car, and such an young man... is he perhaps from some rich family in the town? Or the new emerging tycoon perhaps?
She couldn’t help but wildly guess, her mind racing faster than her pulse.
In contrast to her, Vicky next to her was no better than her, he too was completely captivated by the charm of money.
However, at this moment Alex came down from the car and begin his today’s act, he paused briefly for a moment intentionally as if he had only just spotted Sophie.
With a subtle smile, he said hello:
"Julie? What are you doing here?"
Sophie blinked uncertainly looked around. "Me? Julie? Who?"
Being called by the handsome stranger made her heart miss a beat. Her face turned red, and she had no idea where to direct her gaze.
She stood there frozen in embarrassment, unsure what to do next.
Alex looked at her for a second, then shook his head slightly. "Ah, sorry about that. I thought you were someone else. You just resemble her so much."
With that, he turned and began walking back towards the mall.
Both Sophie and Vicky believed the encounter was finished—until Alex abruptly halted, turned around, and stood right before Vicky.
His eyes flashed quickly in Sophie’s direction before he spoke:
"Your friend is actually the spitting image of a person I used to know, eighty percent similar, at least.
Her birthday wish was to spend one single evening with me. Would you allow your friend to keep me company for a night? You name the price."
Sophie’s eyes widened at that, all the awe got evaporated at that very instant. "What? Are you crazy? Spend the night with you? Absolutely not!
Vicky immediately inserted himself between them, showing a display of justice. "Hey, How dare you! She’s my friend—you can insult me all you want, but don’t you dare to lay your dirty hands on her!"
Alex smoothed his sunglasses nonchalantly, speaking in a calm, unhurried tone.
"A night with her, for $4,000."
