“Wonderful, truly wonderful!” Lin Aotian said, tears of joy streaming down his face. “Mom, I’m so glad you’re alright. I thought I’d never see you again!”
Though unable to speak, Old Mrs. Lin could clearly see Lin Aotian’s filial piety. She nodded slightly before falling into a deep sleep.
Lin Guoli was even more overjoyed. The old lady’s awakening meant he still had a chance, which was a tremendous benefit to him.
“Brother Lu Fan, thank you!” Lin Ke came to Lu Fan’s side. “If it weren’t for Brother Lu Fan’s intervention, the old lady would have been in danger.”
“There’s no need to be formal with me,” Lu Fan said with a gentle smile. “It was just a small effort.” Sudan Novel Network
“For Mr. Lu, it may have been a small effort, but for the Lin family, it is a great kindness!” Lin Aotian clasped his fists. “Thank you, Mr. Lu!”
“Boss Lin, you jest. I do have conditions when I save people,” Lu Fan shrugged. “You promised to grant me one condition earlier, and I trust you won’t go back on your word!”
“Mr. Lu, rest assured. Since I promised Mr. Lu, I will never renege,” Lin Aotian nodded solemnly, his words carrying sincerity. He had indeed kept this matter in mind.
“In that case, if I ever need you to agree to something in the future, you must remember,” Lu Fan said, clapping his hands.
“I certainly will remember!” Lin Aotian nodded solemnly.
Doctor Chen stood by, at a loss for words, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He could never have imagined that someone whose heart had stopped beating could be revived; it was simply a fairy tale.
Old Mrs. Lin was his patient, and he was all too familiar with her condition. If that weren’t the case, he wouldn’t have believed it to be true.
“Mr. Lu, may I ask what method you used?” Doctor Chen clasped his fists. “The effect is truly astonishing.”
“Naturally, it is an unpassed-down art,” Lu Fan glanced at him. “Earlier today, I pointed out your errors, but you refused to listen. You are simply a quack doctor misleading people. If I hadn’t arrived in time, the old madam would have been in grave danger!”
Doctor Chen’s face flushed with embarrassment, unsure how to respond. Lu Fan’s words left him somewhat speechless.
“Guoli, where did you invite this expert from! He almost sent the old lady to her demise!” Lin Aotian glanced at Lin Guoli. “If it weren’t for Mr. Lu, the old lady would have been in danger!”
“This…” Lin Guoli’s face was awkward. He felt somewhat helpless when spoken to this way.
The facts were undeniable, and he had no room for rebuttal. However, Doctor Chen’s reputation held some sway in the entire Jiangbei region, which was why he had invited him.
“I am, after all, a renowned physician. While the Lin family is powerful, they should not insult me in such a manner,” Doctor Chen frowned. “If this place does not have me, there are other places that will.”
With that, Doctor Chen turned and walked towards the exit, a hint of anger in his demeanor. After all, no matter what, he was a renowned physician and expert, and he could not tolerate such words.
Watching Doctor Chen leave, Lin Aotian said coldly, “He may not have much skill, but he certainly has a temper. The Lin family spent so much money, yet he couldn’t cure the old lady’s illness. What use is he!”
Lin Guoli stood by, his face also showing embarrassment. Being spoken to this way by Lin Aotian made him feel as though he had lost face.
“Mr. Lu, what is the old madam’s condition?” Lin Aotian asked. “Are there any precautions to take in the future?”
“No precautions are necessary. The old madam did not have a serious illness; her internal fire was simply too strong, and I have already helped her regulate it,” Lu Fan waved his hand. “If there’s nothing else, we’ll be taking our leave. It’s getting late!”
“I’ll escort you!” Lin Aotian nodded.
“No need, we’ll take a taxi back!” Lu Fan waved his hand. “This is my first time in Jiangbei City, and I haven’t had a chance to look around yet!”
“In that case, let Butler Wu accompany you,” Lin Aotian smiled. “He can show you the sights of Jiangbei.”
“I think that’s unnecessary. I don’t like having people follow me,” Lu Fan waved his hand. “We’ll go for a walk ourselves.”
“But…” Lin Aotian glanced at Lin Ke, seeming hesitant to speak.
“What, are you worried I can’t protect her?” Lu Fan rolled his eyes. “As long as I’m here, no one can harm her!”
Lin Aotian gave a wry smile. “The forces in Jiangbei are complex, and I’ve made enemies with many people. You are new to Jiangbei and unfamiliar with the surroundings; I fear something might happen to you.”
“Don’t worry, Brother Lu Fan will ensure nothing happens,” Lin Ke stepped forward. “I trust Brother Lu Fan!”
Lin Aotian looked resigned but could say no more. Since Lin Ke had spoken thus, he could only comply with Lu Fan.
After leaving the Lin family villa, Lu Fan and Lin Ke’s figures gradually disappeared.
Watching their retreating backs, Lin Aotian frowned, lost in thought.
“Patriarch, if you are worried, I can follow them personally,” Butler Wu offered. “We can follow discreetly, and they likely won’t notice.”
“No, that’s not necessary. I don’t want Xiao Ke to have any opinions of me,” Lin Aotian waved his hand. “Go and investigate this young man’s background. I have a feeling he’s not as simple as he seems!”
“Didn’t we already investigate him?” Butler Wu asked in surprise. “He’s just an ordinary person.”
“Have you forgotten how the old madam’s illness was cured?” Lin Aotian stated directly. “Even a renowned physician, or perhaps a national medical master, could not bring someone back from the brink of death.”
“I think this was just an accident!” Butler Wu smiled. “According to the information, this young man does have some medical skills. Perhaps what he used earlier was some unorthodox method.”
“Whatever method he used, you must investigate it,” Lin Aotian’s expression turned cold. “I need specific details; we cannot afford to be negligent. Lin Ke trusts him too much, but he always makes me feel like I can’t see through him!”
Butler Wu quickly nodded, daring not to say another word.
On a small road at night, as it was too late, they couldn’t hail a taxi. Lin Ke sat down on the grass. “Brother Lu Fan, let’s rest for a bit! We’re not far anyway!”
“It’s getting late, and Grandma is waiting for us to sleep,” Lu Fan smiled. “If you can’t walk any further, how about I carry you!”
“Isn’t that a bit improper!” Lin Ke’s face blushed.
“If you think it’s improper, then I won’t carry you,” Lu Fan shrugged. “It’s not far to where we’re staying anyway.”
Before Lu Fan could finish speaking, Lin Ke ran up and directly hugged his arm. “Brother Lu Fan, I want you to carry me. I don’t mind!”
Lu Fan felt a little helpless. He carried Lin Ke and walked forward. The fragrance emanating from Lin Ke made Lu Fan unconsciously inhale more deeply.
Lying on Lu Fan’s back, Lin Ke felt a surge of happiness, her heart deeply touched. She had spent quite some time with Lu Fan, but this was likely the first time they had been in such close physical contact, causing her heart to pound.
Lu Fan wasn’t much better, feeling a slight awkwardness.
