In the office of Team Three, Luo Fei was writing the monthly group summary report.
"Team leader, it’s payday again today. How much did you earn last month?" Wang Yong asked curiously, as Luo Fei has solved so many cases, his salary must be pretty high.
Luo Fei smiled. Last month, the lowest salaries in Team One were from Xia Zheng and Zhong Jun, both earning 9,600 yuan. As for Team Three, only Sun Jun earned slightly more, with 7,300 yuan, while Wang Yong and Zhaocheng each earned a little over 6,800 yuan.
Compared to Team One’s salaries, the gap was quite noticeable.
"Fourteen thousand," Luo Fei smiled and said. Now that he was the team leader, he had nothing to hide. Besides, this served as a motivation for Team Three’s members, which is also the purpose and significance of performance bonuses.
"Is it really that scary?" Wang Yong’s face was full of disbelief. In this small county, it’s indeed possible to earn over ten thousand a month.
"What about the other members in Team One?" Sun Jun was more concerned about asking, as Luo Fei’s case-solving abilities were indeed impressive, but not very relevant to them. However, the salaries of other Team One members could serve as a reference.
"The lowest is 9,600 yuan," Luo Fei said with a smile, without directly mentioning names. After all, salary, in some sense, can be considered a reflection of capability. A lower salary signifies a lack of ability, and mentioning names could be hurtful.
"Is it also that high? Team leader, you have to work hard; since you’ve led Team One to such high salaries, you should also lead us to earn as much. You can’t favor one over the other," Wang Yong said with a happy expression.
"Don’t talk nonsense. The high salaries in Team One are the result of everyone’s joint efforts, not just one person. If you want to earn the same high pay, you need to work hard too," Luo Fei said seriously.
"I understand, I understand," Wang Yong replied with an ambiguous smile.
"You understand nothing," Luo Fei laughed and cursed.
"I wonder how much the salary will be this month?" Zhaocheng asked.
Sun Jun answered, "It should be about the same as last month. After all, we solved the Ma Kai serial murder case. Given its nature and level of importance, the bonus shouldn’t be too little."
"Unfortunately, the bonus for solving the Cheng Zhiyou case will only be settled next month. Otherwise, our salary this month would have been higher," Wang Yong said with a slight disappointment.
"Whether the bonus is paid this month or next, isn’t it about the same? Why are you in such a hurry?" Luo Fei asked with a smile.
"Team leader, it’s different. It’s better to have the bonus secured in our pockets. Who knows if there will be any surprises next month," Wang Yong shook his head.
Luo Fei didn’t reply. As for his salary this month, he speculated it would likely be similar to last month’s. Last month, he received 14,000 yuan because he solved two homicide cases consecutively, and this month he solved a more significant serial murder case and was promoted to team leader, so there’s no reason for his take-home pay to be lower. Still, it probably wouldn’t be much higher, likely the same.
At noon, as Luo Fei was heading to the canteen with Sun Jun and others for lunch, the salary was credited.
Luo Fei received 14,400 yuan, which was roughly what he expected.
This 14,000 yuan, plus the annual bonus of 90,000 yuan, brought Luo Fei’s current account balance to over six figures — 105,000 yuan in total.
Team Three’s members: Sun Jun received 7,800 yuan, while Wang Yong, Zhaocheng, and the other two each got 7,000 yuan.
For this month’s salary, Team Three’s members were quite satisfied. After all, it was much higher than the previous five to six thousand yuan.
No emergency cases, and they clocked out normally at five in the afternoon.
Luo Fei messaged Yang Mei, inquiring about which electric scooter was suitable for women and where to find cost-effective ones.
Luo Fei wanted to buy an electric scooter for Wu Yan. Otherwise, commuting to and from work was quite troublesome for her, and going to the market for groceries was also a bit of a hassle.
This thought had been there for a while but was delayed due to various matters.
Luo Fei didn’t seek Wu Yan’s opinion. If he mentioned buying her an electric scooter, given her character, she’d likely be reluctant to let him buy it.
As for consulting Yang Mei, it was mostly to find a topic to chat about. Otherwise, there’s no real need to ask Yang Mei about buying a scooter.
Knowing Luo Fei wanted to buy a scooter, Yang Mei asked him to wait for her at the entrance.
Luo Fei waited by the entrance of the detective team.
"Off work already and not going home? Waiting for someone?" Yang Su noticed Luo Fei waiting at the entrance and approached to ask.
"Waiting for a colleague from the tech department," Luo Fei smiled and answered.
"Someone from the tech department? Didn’t see that coming!" Hearing Luo Fei mention the tech department, Yang Su’s gaze at him turned ambiguous. Then he said, "Alright, continue to wait then!"
Shortly after Yang Su left, Yang Mei and Wu Xiaoyue came out.
"Luo Fei, aren’t you planning to buy your mom an electric scooter? I brought Xiaoyue along. She’s a bargaining whiz; with her around, I guarantee you won’t be overcharged for the scooter," Yang Mei explained to Luo Fei with a smile.
"Bargaining whiz?" Luo Fei looked at Wu Xiaoyue with doubt. Although he didn’t know what Wu Xiaoyue’s family did, her attire suggested her family was quite well-off, so he was skeptical about Yang Mei’s claim that Wu Xiaoyue was a bargaining expert.
"What? Doesn’t look like it? No worries, today, on behalf of my best friend, I’ll show you the prowess of a bargaining whiz," Wu Xiaoyue said proudly.
