Chapter 214 Confusing the Audience

Zhao Yan withdrew her gaze from Dong Liang as she spoke.

After a moment of thought, Zhao Yan said to Captain Liu, "Captain Liu, you need to keep an eye on this Dong Liang."

Captain Liu asked doubtfully, "Is there something wrong with him?"

Zhao Yan shook her head. "I can't tell if there's anything wrong with him yet, but my gut feeling is that this person is a bit unusual. The yin energy on him disappeared so quickly. Now, if there's any suspicion or anything out of place, it's always good to keep an eye on it."

Captain Liu thought for a moment and nodded. "Alright, I understand. I'll arrange for someone to watch him immediately."

"Be vigilant and don't let him find out."

Captain Liu replied, "Understood."

Dong Liang took a few steps, then looked back towards Zhao Yan's direction, his gaze somewhat somber.

"Brother Dong, do you know that woman from just now? She seemed quite familiar with you," Qian Ling said.

Dong Liang smiled and replied, "We met once before."

As he spoke, he saw more than a dozen people walking towards them.

"Ling Ling, aren't those Li Yufei and Mo Qi? Where are so many people going?"

Qian Ling was also slightly taken aback by the crowd and looked back behind her.

"Ling Ling, is your school preparing for some event?" Dong Liang's eyes were fixed on Li Yufei.

"No, I haven't heard of any event."

After sitting for a while, Zhao Yan saw Lan Jing approaching, with quite a few girls behind him.

"Elder Li, Miss Zhao, I've gathered everyone. Please take a look," Lan Jing said.

Zhao Yan examined them carefully and nodded, asking them to stand together.

With more than a dozen people, it became much easier. After observing for a while, Zhao Yan understood.

Among these dozen people, Li Yufei had a menacing look about her.

She was the most likely to be harmed here.

"Alright, thank you all. You can leave now," Zhao Yan said.

As they left, Lan Jing looked surprised. "Miss Zhao, is that all?"

Zhao Yan replied, "Have someone keep an eye on Li Yufei. The killer hasn't revealed themselves yet, so anything more we do is useless."

Lan Jing exchanged a look with Captain Li and nodded. "Alright, we'll add more personnel to watch her."

Zhao Yan hummed softly and, along with Lan Jing and the others, went to other schools.

After a busy afternoon, Zhao Yan and her group parted ways with Lan Jing and his team.

No particularly useful clues were found throughout the day.

"This demon is more anxious than we are. Has that kid Lan investigated what kind of demon it is?" the old man asked.

Zhao Yan looked at Lan Jing's investigation notes. "What's buried underground is a demon corpse. Lan Jing's notes don't specify what kind of demon it is. Perhaps he only found out that it's a demon corpse."

"Demon corpse?" the old man muttered softly, turning to walk behind him.

Dong Liang took Qian Ling home, opened a drawer, and took out a rusty pair of scissors.

He then crouched down and looked under the bed, pulling out a box from beneath it. He opened the box and took out a set of black clothes.

Just as he was about to put them on, his jade pendant suddenly became hot.

This made him cautiously look out the window.

He saw a black car parked under the building opposite.

He knew this area well; no vehicles usually came here.

Dong Liang frowned tightly and put the clothes back into the box.

"Captain Liu, Dong Liang is out."

Inside the car, a male officer reported to Captain Liu.

Captain Liu stared at Dong Liang. Seeing Dong Liang throw the trash into the bin with a garbage bag, he then walked back into his room.

"Dong Liang hasn't shown anything unusual. We've been watching him for a while."

"It hasn't been long enough. We need to watch for a longer period to understand the situation," Captain Liu said.

Dong Liang returned to his room and slammed his fist onto the bed.

He was indeed being watched.

He anxiously scratched his scalp.

"Impossible! I did it so cleanly, how could they know it was me?"

"Could it be those antiques? Those antiques were fine."

"Where did things go wrong?"

The more Dong Liang thought about it, the tighter his jaw clenched.

He took a deep breath, and the tension on his face slowly subsided.

Dong Liang quickly crawled under the bed, pulling back the box he had pushed away earlier. He glanced out the window and quickly opened the box.

He put on the black clothes from the box, picked up a pillow, put his clothes on the pillow, covered the pillow with the quilt, then picked up a flashlight and opened the basement.

He walked down into the basement, and after about five minutes, Dong Liang raised his hand, lightly tapped the wooden board above his head, and pushed it hard.

The wooden board opened, and Dong Liang struggled to emerge from the basement.

He shone his flashlight around and saw the black car a few hundred meters away.

Dong Liang sneered, put on his hat, and disappeared into the night.

Zhao Yan didn't sleep well that night.

Before six o'clock, Lan Jing and the others arrived.

They said a female corpse had been found by the river.

This startled Zhao Yan.

She hadn't expected another discovery so soon.

Zhao Yan, along with the old man, rushed over. Lan Jing and the others stared at the corpse, their expressions filled with confusion.

"Elder Li, didn't you say the killer targets beautiful women?"

The old man nodded. "That's right."

"But this victim is over forty years old," Lan Jing said.

Zhao Yan pulled back the white cloth to take a look, then covered it again.

"What time was she found?" Zhao Yan asked.

"The time of death is estimated to be around ten o'clock last night."

"The deceased is named Wang Lan, a fried noodle vendor."

"Surveillance shows that after she pushed her cart into Sijiang Street, she completely disappeared."

"Strange," the old man murmured, his hands behind his back.

Zhao Yan hid and carefully examined the corpse.

She suddenly noticed that the victim's hand was tightly grasping something. She pried open the hand and found a button in her palm.

Zhao Yan picked up the button and shone her flashlight on it.

She brought the button to her nose and smelled it. It had a fishy, foul odor.

It reminded her of the smell of the soil when digging on the mountain.

"Brother Lan, please check what type of button this is and where it's sold."

"Okay," Lan Jing replied, taking the button.

"Could our investigation direction be wrong? Perhaps this guy isn't targeting beautiful women, but just women in general," Lan Jing asked doubtfully.

Zhao Yan didn't answer. Instead, she asked, "Brother Lan, what's the situation with Li Yufei? Are your people still protecting her?"
