False Court
Chapter 754 Martial Law
Su Mo was standing right in front of the Federal Parliament Building's main entrance. He couldn't help but twitch when he saw the scene before him.
Guarding the entrance were two striking IV-generation pure mechanical mechs, Night Guards, along with twenty III-generation mechs and numerous elite soldiers.
Su Mo sucked in a cold breath. "So rich?" Using IV-generation mechs as gatekeepers was the height of extravagance.
Normally, IV-generation mechs were the main force of an ace unit.
Su Mo also noticed a group of people gathered at the entrance. Judging by their attire, they were of a much higher status than the people gathered outside the Augulas.
They stood quietly, waiting.
Then, a Federal staff member came out and called out a few names.
Those whose names were called excitedly stepped out of the crowd and followed the staff member inside.
Su Mo looked thoughtful. It seemed the new Federal government was already up and running, just not officially announced yet.
With that in mind, Su Mo didn't hesitate. He pinned the Immortal Star Glory badge to his chest and walked straight toward the main entrance.
Those waiting on the periphery saw Su Mo heading directly for the main entrance and exclaimed in surprise.
"Look, someone's going straight for the main entrance."
"Is this guy an idiot? No one can get in except by internal Federal announcement."
"He doesn't look like an idiot. See that beautiful badge he's wearing? It's a very unique design, never seen anything like it."
...
Amidst the onlookers' comments, Su Mo reached the main entrance.
Unsurprisingly, he was stopped by a tall, mature-looking female guard captain wearing IV-generation red mechanical armor.
"Hello, sir! I am Guard Captain Jenman."
Jenman's expression was strained when she saw the badge on Su Mo's chest. Others might not recognize it, but as a guard captain, she had received special training. This badge was a symbol of faith for all military personnel, something legendary. The fact that she was seeing it today filled her with awe. Quickly recovering, she saluted Su Mo.
"Hello, I need to go inside for a bit. Is there a problem?"
Su Mo coughed, a little worried. Was Augulas playing him?
"No problem, sir. However, I need to verify your identity. Please cooperate during this critical period."
Jenman replied respectfully.
Normally, wearing this badge granted free access, but during this sensitive time, she still had to verify Su Mo's identity to prevent anyone with ulterior motives from obtaining the badge.
"No problem, here is my ID card."
Su Mo secretly breathed a sigh of relief and handed over his ID card.
Jenman used a special device to verify it, and a prompt quickly appeared.
"Verification passed."
"Please, sir!"
Jenman returned the ID card to Su Mo and waved him through.
The onlookers in the distance were stunned; it was the first time they had seen someone enter willingly.
Su Mo was also a little excited; he was really getting in, one step closer to his money.
However, after entering the Federal Parliament Building area, his expression became increasingly astonished.
"Holy crap, the internal defenses are even tighter!"
Everywhere he looked, there were mech squads patrolling and numerous anti-air installations. At regular intervals, there were special cylindrical mechanical pillars, each topped with a metal ball embedded with electronic eyes that could monitor the area 360 degrees.
Aside from the defensive personnel, he could also see some people carrying files and wearing new Federal official uniforms, hurrying about.
Su Mo headed straight for the white palace-shaped building in the central area.
After a few steps, floating mechanical balls descended from above, scanning Su Mo.
When they scanned the badge on Su Mo's chest, they emitted electronic identification sounds.
"Permission verified!"
Then, one by one, they flew away.
Su Mo continued forward, his eyes constantly shifting. Did the new parliament have a lot of enemies?
Even when Long Ming came to power, it wasn't this exaggerated, was it?
He became increasingly curious.
Before long, Su Mo finally entered the central parliament building and arrived at the first floor lobby.
The ceiling of the lobby was decorated with colorful glazed gemstones, all the chandeliers were made of sparkling Hackham crystals, the walls were hung with famous paintings, and even the floor beneath his feet was paved with naturally occurring black-gold veined stone specially mined from the Valhalla star.
In comparison, the old Imperial Capital parliament building was really shabby.
Su Mo took a deep breath and exclaimed.
"So rich."
Just then, a group of people wearing top-tier luxury clothing passed by Su Mo.
"Do you think the medical reform bill we proposed will pass?"
"It has to pass, or how else will we extract enough wealth? If people want to undergo genetic modification, they'll have to buy our products."
"That makes sense. How's the tax bill progressing?"
"Not ideal. It's not realistic to increase taxes on the lower classes, so they'll probably target the middle class."
"That's fine too. Not only will it reduce the number of people climbing up from below, but it won't involve us."
...
Su Mo carefully observed these people; their clothes had special insignia, some of which looked very familiar.
If he wasn't mistaken, these people were likely the capital tycoons from Area M.
These guys were really awesome, blatantly interfering with policy. If this were Area Z, they would have been dealt with harshly.
How could they openly discuss this in the Federal Parliament Building?
The officials who passed by either pretended not to hear or went up to greet them.
They exchanged friendly greetings and chatted.
Su Mo shook his head. Well, it wasn't his business. He turned and looked around, found the information desk, and walked over.
At the information desk, several blonde, blue-eyed beauties in sexy uniforms stood with elegant smiles.
When they saw Su Mo approaching, they politely asked, "Sir, how can we help you?"
"I'm here to see the Speaker of the Parliament. Which floor and room is the Speaker in?"
Su Mo stated his request.
The beauties froze, and in their shock, they quickly asked, "Sir, you are?"
"My name is Su Mo."
"Do you have an appointment?"
"No! Do I need an appointment to see him?"
Su Mo touched his forehead, feeling annoyed. When he went to see Long Ming before, there weren't so many troublesome procedures.
"Please show us your ID card so we can register you."
"When will I be able to see him after registering?"
Su Mo handed over his ID card.
