False Court
Chapter 76 Warship
Zhou Qian asked tentatively.
Lin Zinuo's expression shifted for a moment before she finally ordered, "Let's go!"
Su Mo and the others raised their QBz-171 rifles and began firing in bursts.
Bang, bang!
Zombies fell one after another as they pushed toward the gate.
In just a few minutes, Su Mo and his team had stormed the base. The number of zombies that gathered inside was surprisingly small.
They were quickly dispatched with a few shots.
Su Mo carefully observed the surroundings. The base had very few buildings, just a few blocks.
However, in the central area, there was a U-shaped dock where an old ship was moored.
"It's a ship!"
Zhou Qian exclaimed with delight.
Su Mo glanced at it, easily discerning that it was an old ship nearing the end of its service life.
However, with some modifications, it could still be valuable. He remembered Zi Qing and the others mentioning that the Twelfth Team didn't have any ships, only a few fishing boats.
Zhou Qian and the others were excited and ready to rush over there.
"Wait."
Lin Zinuo calmly stopped them.
"Zinuo-jie, it's a ship! Let's go take a look."
Zhou Qian and the others halted, speaking to Lin Zinuo.
"What's the rush? Let's explore the base bit by bit, clear out any potential dangers, and then go to the ship."
Lin Zinuo said calmly.
"Okay."
Zhou Qian gradually calmed down.
Su Mo's opinion of Lin Zinuo rose; anyone who could become a vice-leader was undoubtedly talented.
They then headed toward the nearest building.
Over an hour later, Su Mo and his team had cleared the small base. There really weren't many zombies inside. It seemed that most of the original personnel had left, leaving only a small number behind to guard the place.
Furthermore, there wasn't much of value inside the buildings. They only found some ship parts in the warehouse, along with various types of fuel, including fuel for mecha.
After confirming that there were no dangers, Zhou Qian couldn't help but suggest,
"Zinuo-jie, can we go check out the ship now?"
Lin Zinuo nodded in agreement.
"Let's go."
"Great!"
The joy on Zhou Qian's face was impossible to hide.
So, the group excitedly ran toward the harbor. As they approached the beach near the harbor,
"Stop!"
Su Mo suddenly raised his hand and lowered his voice, signaling them to stop.
Zhou Qian and the others were startled, quickly raising their weapons and aiming them at the surroundings. A faint breeze swept past, but there were no signs of any enemies.
"Su Mo?"
Lin Zinuo looked at Su Mo questioningly.
"Look at the beach."
Su Mo's expression grew serious.
The others looked over and saw two huge, vaguely shaped water pits sunken into the smooth sand.
"What's this?"
Lin Zinuo and the others frowned.
"These must be traces left by some kind of monster,"
Su Mo explained.
"But we've already searched the entire base and didn't see any suspicious monsters. Could it be on or near the ship?"
Zhou Qian and the others' expressions became somewhat unnatural as they spoke. She had already made a mistake once due to carelessness.
"Hard to say."
Su Mo replied blandly.
"Let's take a look at the ship first,"
Lin Zinuo said, trying to remain calm.
Soon, Su Mo and the others arrived in front of the old ship. They didn't rashly board it but instead carefully examined it from all sides.
The ship was about 60 meters long, 10 meters wide, and had a draft of about two meters. From the outside, it had a 76mm naval gun and four 7.62mm machine guns. The internal structure was unknown, and the hull was covered in rust.
"It looks pretty good,"
Lin Zinuo said after a quick assessment, not noticing any obvious damage.
"This ship probably isn't very heavy, maybe around 700 tons. A ship of this size would be a regular patrol ship. Seeing how old it is, I'm not sure if it's even usable,"
Su Mo said, not very optimistic.
"Really?"
Zhou Qian and the others were a bit disappointed.
At this moment, Lin Zinuo said, "No matter how bad this ship is, it's still better than the fishing boats our team has. Let's search the ship and eliminate any potential hazards. Everyone, be careful."
"Okay!"
Zhou Qian and the others responded.
Then, Su Mo and the others cautiously boarded the ship.
"Don't split up,"
Lin Zinuo reminded them in a low voice as they walked.
They carefully checked the bridge, living quarters, bottom engine room, and ammunition depot, leaving no corner untouched.
Surprisingly, there wasn't a single zombie on the entire ship, let alone any large monsters. However, they weren't completely without results. They found a mummified corpse on the bridge.
Zhou Qian was crouching down, carefully examining the corpse. Judging by the style of the uniform and the insignia, it was an officer.
Clearly higher-ranking than the wandering soldiers they had encountered before.
"Huh?"
While searching the corpse's pockets, Zhou Qian suddenly felt something hard. Her face lit up as she quickly pulled it out.
A special metal key and a faded photograph fell out.
Lin Zinuo bent down and picked up the key and the photograph. Su Mo and the others gathered around. The faded photograph was a family picture of a stern-faced man holding a child of about ten years old, both with bright smiles on their faces.
"Could this child be that poor kid?"
Zhou Qian said, instinctively covering her mouth.
"It should be. You can tell by the clothes he's wearing,"
Lin Zinuo sighed sadly.
Everyone fell silent. As they had guessed, the boy's father was indeed dead, which was why he hadn't returned home. He must have stubbornly sailed the ship back alone, perhaps wanting to see him one last time. And after he died, he faced Misty Town, showing his deep longing.
"Zinuo-jie, there seems to be writing on the back of this photo,"
Qin Wang said, noticing it by chance.
Hearing this, Lin Zinuo turned the photo over and saw two words written in blood.
"Careful!"
......
Seeing these two words, everyone was slightly startled.
"What does this mean?"
Zhou Qian asked with a curious expression.
"It must be a warning to his comrades, maybe there was some danger at the time. It shouldn't be anything now, after all, he's been dead for so long,"
Lin Zinuo said after thinking for a moment. Actually, she felt a little uneasy seeing these two words. But considering that they had searched the entire base and ship and found nothing unusual, it should be nothing. One couldn't be unlucky forever.
"Then, Zhou Qian-jie, what about this key?"
A nearby sister asked curiously.
"This should be the ship's ignition key,"
Lin Zinuo said, walking to the console. Sure enough, there was a slot in the most conspicuous place on the console.
She inserted the key, and it fit perfectly.
Then, Lin Zinuo turned the key, but nothing happened.
