False Court
Chapter 472 The Chase
Inside the Twilight Fortress command center, the mechanical being, Kanon, disregarded everything and input commands, ordering the Twilight Fortress to quickly disengage from the battlefield.
It couldn't afford to consider anything else. Even a hasty retreat, making them an easy target, was preferable.
Truly, the tables had turned. Now, the Twilight Fortress was the one being chased and hunted.
In space, Su Mo shook his head, removed his helmet, and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
He was speechless. If it hadn't been for the Forged Lord Devourer warning him early enough, he would have been crippled or worse.
At that moment, passionate voices echoed through the communication channel.
"Go, brothers! Don't let them escape!"
Su Mo snapped back to reality and turned to look. He saw the bulky Twilight Fortress enduring fierce attacks as it desperately tried to escape the battlefield, heading toward the Dunkerque Graveyard Star System.
Even the damaged Black Obsidian couldn't afford to stop for repairs. Its main cannon was recharged, and with full power, it chased after the fleeing Twilight Fortress.
Su Mo wore a look of disbelief, but he couldn't dwell on it. He pulled the control stick and steered the Fierce Tiger mech in pursuit.
At that moment, the deep voice of the Forged Lord Devourer echoed in Su Mo's mind.
"A starving camel is bigger than a horse. Don't get too close."
Su Mo's lips twitched slightly, and he reduced his speed.
But then Su Mo saw Qian Chengxue piloting the Wings of Silver toward the Twilight Fortress at an extremely high speed, attempting a forced entry.
He immediately warned her over the communication channel.
"Qian Chengxue, be careful!"
Qian Chengxue was slightly startled and instinctively manipulated the Wings of Silver, flapping its wings to veer off course.
In the next moment, the Twilight Fortress opened a series of special launch ports.
Dirty bombs were ejected one after another.
Instantly, brilliant orbs of light erupted.
A massive shockwave engulfed the Wings of Silver.
Su Mo's heart clenched. When the flames of the explosion dissipated, he saw the Wings of Silver intact and breathed a sigh of relief.
Inside the Black Obsidian command center, Li Ruiqi's expression shifted as he witnessed the scene. He decisively issued an order.
"Everyone, listen up! Attack from a distance! Slowly bleed it dry!"
"Understood!"
...
Puttmi, hearing Li Ruiqi's order, turned to him and said, "That won't work. They're about to escape into the Dunkerque Graveyard Star System. Now is not the time to worry about casualties. We have to take this bite of meat."
"Let them escape. We just need to keep chasing and attacking. I'm not doing this because I'm afraid of casualties, but because I'm afraid they'll be pushed too far. Haven't you heard the saying, 'Boil a frog slowly'? Don't push them too hard. Otherwise, if they decide to go down in flames with us, we'll end up losing everything."
Li Ruiqi explained to Puttmi.
After carefully considering Li Ruiqi's words, Puttmi nodded and replied, "You're right. Haste makes waste!"
...
Inside the GT Department command center, Sperd stood with his hands behind his back, watching the battlefield intently.
His taut face broke into a slight smile.
At that moment, Zhang Wei walked to Sperd's side and said with a smile, "It's rare to see you smile, Lord Sperd."
"That's because I see unity, and I see the future hope of the Federation. I believe that although the future will be difficult, we will overcome it. This interstellar era is destined to belong to us."
Sperd said powerfully.
"I think so too."
Zhang Wei nodded in agreement.
...
In space, the Twilight Fortress resembled a drowning dog, crashing wildly into the Dunkerque Graveyard.
Inside the command center, the mechanical being Kanon stared intently at the control screen.
A prompt appeared.
"Activate defense system: Super-Magnetic Device?"
"Activate!"
In an instant, countless circuits appeared on the surface of the Twilight Fortress.
The debris scattered throughout the surrounding space was frantically drawn to the Twilight Fortress.
Clank, clank...
The entire Twilight Fortress became like a giant magnet.
Those in pursuit were stunned by the sight.
"What is this? Is that even possible?"
At that moment, Li Ruiqi's grim voice came over the communication channel.
"What are you all standing around for? Keep attacking! What's the use of thick armor? Bleed it dry!"
"Understood!"
Everyone snapped back to reality and continued to follow behind, firing at the Twilight Fortress.
Because the Twilight Fortress was clearing the way, either sucking up the debris or simply smashing through it, it was essentially creating a path.
The Black Obsidian and the others had an easy time chasing, with almost no obstacles.
Of course, Li Ruiqi was ruthless. As soon as the Black Obsidian's main cannon was charged, he would fire without hesitation.
No matter how much trash the Twilight Fortress absorbed, it couldn't completely negate the damage.
But the mechanical being Kanon was no pushover either. It occasionally rotated the Twilight Fortress to adjust its rear position, using the intact armor to resist the attacks.
And so, the two sides continued to flee and chase!
Deeper and deeper into the Dunkerque Graveyard.
...
Several hours later, inside the Black Obsidian command center, Puttmi said with some unease, "We've already chased them into the fifth layer! We're going too deep. Will something happen if we keep chasing like this?"
Li Ruiqi was also feeling the pressure. He hadn't expected the enemy to be so resilient.
After all the attacks, the entire Twilight Fortress was teetering on the brink of collapse, riddled with injuries, but it just wouldn't give.
Now Li Ruiqi was in a bind. What Puttmi said wasn't entirely unreasonable. But giving up at this critical moment wasn't realistic either.
Li Ruiqi took a deep breath and said, "Keep chasing! Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"
"Alright!"
Puttmi gritted his teeth and agreed. It was indeed unrealistic to turn back now. Even if the two of them agreed, the others were already seeing red and wouldn't give up.
In space, Su Mo piloted the Fierce Tiger mech next to Qian Chengxue. The two of them were tacitly attacking the Twilight Fortress from a distance.
Although they didn't chat, seeing each other by their sides gave them a sense of security.
Inside the Twilight Fortress command center, the mechanical being Kanon abandoned its usual composure and emitted a human-like mechanical voice of panic.
"These damn ants, they're really pushing their luck!"
Its eyes were fixed on the star chart.
The Twilight Fortress was about to enter the sixth layer of the Dunkerque Graveyard, its old nest.
Beyond that was the seventh layer, the forbidden zone.
Even it wouldn't dare to venture into that forbidden zone rashly.
That meant that if it couldn't scare off the enemy in the sixth layer, it would be in deep trouble.
So, the mechanical being Kanon began to input commands frantically.
On the floating ruins in the distance, swarms of small defensive drones and mechanical insects controlling wandering monsters emerged, quickly forming a tidal wave of forces.
This was its last resort.
Soon, a warning popped up on the Black Obsidian.
"Warning, numerous monsters and defensive drones have been scanned merging with the Twilight Fortress."
Puttmi looked at Li Ruiqi in surprise.
"It seems we've chased them into their lair."
"Nothing to worry about! Send the order! Attack! Attack them hard!"
Li Ruiqi remained unmoved. In his eyes, the Twilight Fortress was at its wit's end.
