Chapter 487: Chapter 487: The Whereabouts of Second Uncle
Nan Qiao quickly explained: “Grandpa Li, he’s very good to me and hasn’t bullied me. Deciding not to get married now is my choice, it has nothing to do with him.”
Old Mr. Li: “Qiaoqiao, I’ve even prepared the betrothal gifts.”
Nan Qiao: “…”
Li Yehan also said: “Grandpa wants us to get married soon and mentioned that the betrothal gifts are ready. If you agree, he’ll take them to the Bai Family to propose immediately.”
Nan Qiao gave the painting she brought to Old Mr. Li, changing the subject.
“Grandpa Li, this is the painting I brought for you.”
Old Mr. Li opened the painting, overjoyed.
“It’s really well-painted, too wonderful, I like it a lot.”
The topic was diverted, Nan Qiao planned to escape, choosing to leave quickly.
Just as Nan Qiao was about to speak, Uncle Fu’s phone rang.
Uncle Fu picked up his phone and went aside to answer the call.
“Really!”
Uncle Fu’s voice attracted the attention of the three of them.
Uncle Fu hung up the call and excitedly said: “Master, they’ve found where the second young master is!”
Old Mr. Li was a bit startled; has his son, who ran away from home many years ago, truly been found?
Old Mr. Li thought his youngest son was dead, never expecting this day would come.
Uncle Fu continued: “Master, the private detective is still investigating. He said he encountered him today and took the cup he drank from to do a DNA test, confirming it’s him. However, they couldn’t see him again.”
Old Mr. Li sat in his chair, looking sad: “As long as people can confirm he’s alive, that’s good, that’s good.”
Unconsciously, Old Mr. Li fell into the memories of the past, with sorrow in his eyes.
…
Li Yehan took Nan Qiao out and left with her.
On the road, Li Yehan told Nan Qiao about this second uncle.
Nan Qiao asked in surprise after hearing: “Because of an argument, your second uncle ran away from home and never returned!”
“Yes, according to what I’ve learned, that’s indeed the case. My grandpa was very strict in educating his two sons, and after my second uncle ran away, he wasn’t strict with Li Tianhong anymore. That’s why Li Tianhong was indulged until now.”
Educating children is a discipline; no one can say for sure what’s right.
Nan Qiao pondered: “Your second uncle ran away from home for so many years, but Grandpa Li keeps looking persistently out of regret. Yet, how does Grandpa Li know what your second uncle looks like grown up?”
“AI technology.”
One sentence from Li Yehan made Nan Qiao suddenly understand.
Li Yehan held Nan Qiao’s hand and put it in his pocket.
“The weather is getting colder, Qiaoqiao, and your winter break is about to start.”
“Almost.” She could start earlier.
Li Yehan added: “Once you start your winter break, we can go travel together.”
Nan Qiao hadn’t properly experienced the country’s beautiful landscapes before, and she cheerfully agreed.
Li Yehan was in a good mood, taking Nan Qiao to eat skewers.
Upon catching the smell, Nan Qiao couldn’t stand it again.
“Let’s go have porridge instead.” Nan Qiao headed out.
“Qiaoqiao, I’m taking you to the hospital. If you’re feeling unwell, it’s best to get checked soon.”
Nan Qiao tugged at Li Yehan, preventing him from going.
“I’m a doctor myself; I’ll check my pulse to understand the situation.”
Li Yehan and Nan Qiao arrived at the porridge shop, where Nan Qiao sat down, and Li Yehan sat next to her.
Nan Qiao checked her pulse with her left hand on her right wrist as Li Yehan silently watched her hand.
After a short while, Nan Qiao removed her hand from her wrist, glaring at Li Yehan with wide, grape-like eyes.
Li Yehan was worried: “What is it? Is there something wrong?”
Nan Qiao hesitated, as if she found it hard to speak.
“Nothing, it’s just cold weather, I need to stay warm.”
Li Yehan thought Nan Qiao had something to hide from him, but since she didn’t say it, he didn’t force her; instead, he served her a bowl of porridge.
“Qiaoqiao, have some hot porridge to warm your stomach.”
“Thank you.”
Nan Qiao took the porridge and sipped.
Century egg and lean pork congee had a fishy smell, almost making Nan Qiao retch.
Li Yehan hastily poured her a cup of water and patted her back.
“Qiaoqiao, we should still go to the hospital for a check-up, just to be safe.”
“No need, I’ll be fine after resting for a while.”
Li Yehan held Nan Qiao’s hand and hugged her, staring at her with obsidian-like eyes: “Are you hiding something from me?”
“No, you’re overthinking.”
Nan Qiao stepped out of Li Yehan’s embrace: “I’ll have some plain porridge.”
Having porridge without taste wouldn’t be as uncomfortable.
No matter how Li Yehan persuaded her, Nan Qiao refused to see a doctor.
…
Li Yehan sent Nan Qiao back home, accompanying her to the Bai family’s living room.
Chen Xinwan was watching TV, Bai Zhenyang and Grandpa Bai were playing chess.
The three older brothers were busy and not home yet.
“Ye Han, you came at the right time, accompany me for a couple of rounds; Zhenyang’s chess skills are terrible.”
Bai Zhenyang: “…”
The old man disregarded fair play, causing him to lose face in front of his future son-in-law.
Li Yehan laughed as he went over: “Uncle Bai’s chess skills are excellent; surely Grandpa Bai’s skills have improved even more.”
“Ye Han, you really know how to flatter. Come, sit and play a round with me.”
Li Yehan walked over and sat down to play chess with Grandpa Bai.
Nan Qiao sat next to Chen Xinwan, accompanying her mom to watch TV.
Chen Xinwan noticed Nan Qiao’s complexion was off, looking weak and as if she was sick.
“Qiaoqiao dear, your complexion doesn’t look good. Are you feeling unwell somewhere?” she said, placing the back of her hand on Nan Qiao’s forehead, checking if she had a fever.
Grandpa Bai stopped playing chess and hurried over: “Have the driver prepare the car and send my granddaughter to the hospital.”
“Grandpa, Mom and Dad, I’m just really tired lately and haven’t rested well. I’ll go to bed early tonight, and I’ll be energetic tomorrow.”
Afraid they wouldn’t believe her, Nan Qiao added: “I’m a doctor; I can check my pulse. I’m fine.”
Out of concern, they nearly forgot Nan Qiao’s excellent medical skills, capable of checking her own pulse.
Nan Qiao said again: “Don’t worry, I’m really okay.”
Chen Xinwan expressed concern and heartache: “Qiaoqiao dear, don’t overwork yourself. Go to sleep early and soak in a hot bath tonight. Don’t be so busy tomorrow; just rest well at home. I’ll ask Sister Liu to make you delicious meals.”
Bai Zhenyang said: “Qiaoqiao, whatever you want to eat, I’ll invite a chef to the house to make it for you.”
Grandpa Bai: “That’s a good idea. My granddaughter won’t have to exert herself.”
Nan Qiao felt touched by everyone’s concerned looks.
Li Yehan also didn’t dare to keep playing chess, wanting Nan Qiao to rest early.
“Qiaoqiao, go upstairs to rest first. I’m heading back now,” Li Yehan said softly.
Grandpa Bai nodded: “Ye Han, we’ll play chess another day.”
“Grandpa Bai, I just acquired a set of chess pieces, I’ll bring them over to show you next time.”
After exchanging a few words, Li Yehan left.
Li Yehan planned to go back first, then find someone to airlift ingredients, so they can be delivered early tomorrow, providing Nan Qiao with nourishing food.
