205、Xiao Juan

I got up, splashed water on my face, and quickly called Lao Wei.

Xiao Liang was right. Lao Wei had indeed set off early to find the Celestial Cave in Nanshan. They had left around seven in the morning and had been searching Nanshan for four and a half hours already.

However, because Nanshan was quite large, and the mountains were overgrown with weeds and dense trees, Lao Wei and the Xiaoling Guards had searched all morning but still hadn't found the Celestial Cave left behind by the white-robed fairy.

I asked Lao Wei if he needed help, and that Xiao Liang and I could go over anytime.

Lao Wei told us to stay put and conserve our energy at the hotel. Once they found the Celestial Cave, they would send someone to pick us up and take us down to the tomb.

Since Lao Wei had already made arrangements, I said I would obey. I told him to call me as soon as he found the Celestial Cave.

Lao Wei responded and hung up to continue working. As a result, the call never came, and it was past three in the afternoon. Lao Wei still hadn't called me back.

It seemed they still hadn't been able to find the Celestial Cave.

I sat on the bed in the hotel watching TV. The movie channel was playing a police action film, but even though I was staring at the screen, I wasn't really watching it. My mind was full of the Celestial Cave and Little Mei-jie in the Crystal Palace.

When it was almost four in the afternoon, there was still no news from Lao Wei. I got a little anxious and said to Xiao Liang, "Do you think the Xiaoling Guards are running into some difficulties? How come they still haven't found the Celestial Cave?"

Xiao Liang comforted me, saying, "Chen Rongsheng, don't worry. Lao Wei and the others deal with tomb raiders all year round. They have much more experience in this area than we do. I think the terrain of Nanshan must be unique, and Ge Xueying is especially cunning, hiding the entrance to the tomb very well. That's why they haven't found it yet. Give them some more time."

I glanced out the window and said, "In a little while, the sun will be setting. Could it be that they won't be able to find the Celestial Cave today?"

Xiao Liang said, "If they can't find it today, they'll find it tomorrow. Anyway, the Celestial Cave is on Nanshan. They'll find it sooner or later. Chen Rongsheng, you have to trust the Xiaoling Guards, trust Lao Wei."

I nodded and didn't say anything more.

After a while, Lao Wei still hadn't called, but both Xiao Liang's and my stomachs began to rumble.

I looked back at Xiao Liang and asked, "Are you hungry? We haven't eaten anything since this morning."

Xiao Liang blushed and nodded. She was probably starving.

When I thought about how she had stayed up late last night to wash my clothes, not going to bed until after two in the morning, and now I was making her go hungry, I felt a little guilty.

I said, "Let's go downstairs and get something to eat. Anyway, there's no news from Lao Wei for the time being. We can't just wait for the results on empty stomachs."

Xiao Liang nodded and said, "Right, let's eat something first, so we'll have the strength if we need to go down to the tomb."

So I took Xiao Liang outside the hotel and ordered two bowls of noodles at a small restaurant across the street.

As it turned out, it was the time when nearby schools were letting out, and we ended up sharing a table with a young couple in school uniforms. The girl in the couple was gentle and pretty, with a ponytail and a pair of small tiger teeth. She looked familiar to me.

Xiao Liang also noticed her and seemed to think she looked familiar too. When we looked at her, the girl actually smiled at us.

"It's you! You're back?" The girl said to Xiao Liang and me in a very familiar way.

Xiao Liang and I were taken aback by what she said.

Seeing that we were dumbfounded, the girl smiled and said, "Don't you recognize me? I recognize you. You're staying at the place my family owns."

Hearing her say that, I remembered that the girl seemed to be the daughter of the hotel owner where we were staying. I remembered that her nickname was Xiao Juan.

However, because Xiao Liang and I always left early and returned late, we rarely saw her face. Sometimes we would run into her at the entrance of the hotel, but it was only a quick glance, and we hadn't paid attention.

I didn't expect this girl to be so observant and remember both of us.

Xiao Liang and I smiled at her and said, "Oh, it's you."

I glanced at the boy sitting next to her, a bespectacled boy who looked scholarly.

I said with a smile, "How old are you? Are you in junior high or high school? You already have a boyfriend?"

Xiao Juan winked at me and said, "You can't just say things like that, or my dad will break my legs if he finds out."

The boy seemed quite shy, just focusing on eating his noodles with his head down, not even daring to look at us.

Then Xiao Juan asked us, "You're all government people, right? Are you here to catch bad guys?"

Xiao Liang and I were stunned by her question again, unsure how to answer her.

Xiao Juan said with a smile, "Even if you don't say it, I know. I also know you're here to catch tomb raiders, right? A group of people came to stay at my place a few days ago, and they were tomb raiders! They were carrying big bags, and they had Luoyang shovels (a type of tool used for tomb raiding) inside. I saw them!"

Xiao Juan's words left us speechless, and we didn't know how to answer her.

I didn't expect this little girl to be so clever, actually guessing our identities.

She had also seen Da Shou and his group staying at the hotel a few days ago and had even figured out their identities. Just based on that keen eye, she was exceptional, even among adults.

I glanced at Xiao Juan with admiration and said in a low voice, "Xiao Juan, you've got some skills. You even know about tomb raiders and recognize Luoyang shovels?"

Xiao Juan raised her head proudly and said, "Of course! To tell you the truth, in our little county, there's not much else, but there are a lot of tomb raiders. You can always run into them every now and then. And when they come, they always go to Nanshan to dig tombs. It happens every year. I've seen it a lot since I was little."

Xiao Liang was probably worried about Xiao Juan being in danger, so she quickly reminded her, "Xiao Juan, you can't just talk about this everywhere. Tomb raiders are all desperate people. They're very dangerous. You can't associate with them, you hear?"

Xiao Juan giggled and said, "I know, don't worry. I know what I'm doing."

Then she suddenly asked again, "By the way, the two colleagues who came with you on the first day, an uncle with gray hair and an uncle who looked very upright, did they get into a car accident and end up in the hospital? Were the people who hit them tomb raiders?"

"You know that too?" I was completely convinced. Xiao Juan's information was too well-informed; she was practically a walking encyclopedia.

Xiao Juan raised her chin triumphantly and said, "There's nothing in the county that I don't know. I can find out about something that happened in the morning by the afternoon. By the way, how are those two uncles doing? Are they okay? Did they catch the bad guys who hit them?"
