The Whale in the Mountains
Chapter 35 Dragon Seeking and Location
Pete frowned as he looked at the dark, murky concoction.
"Are you going to use this to treat patients?"
Dean Hao glanced at Pete, a smirk playing on his lips, and simply ignored him.
He had Song Anran help the patient up and personally poured the medicine into the patient's mouth.
Chen Xiao, being the lowest in rank, stood aside, hands at his sides.
Dean Hao now regarded him as a master of traditional Chinese medicine; how could he dare ask him to do anything?
Lin Zhiyin quickly noticed the peculiarity and said coldly, "Dean Hao, what kind of strange medicine are you feeding the patient? Have you been fooled?"
Dean Hao finished administering the medicine before letting out a cold snort.
"Lin Zhiyin, I'll tell you, this medicine is called 'Gui Lai Xi,' recorded by the master Bian Que in the 'Hundred Herb Golden Formula.' It's not some kind of strange medicinal soup!"
Lin Zhiyin said in a sarcastic tone, "Gui Lai Xi? Isn't that the legendary Soul-Calling Soup? Dean Hao, you've received modern medical education, so you don't actually believe in 'soul-calling,' do you?"
Dean Hao glared at him. "You know nothing!"
"Although Gui Lai Xi is called Soul-Calling Soup, this 'soul-calling' is not that 'soul-calling.'"
"In ancient China, neurological ailments were collectively called soul-loss syndrome. The so-called soul-calling is just a treatment for neurological conditions!"
"You think only foreigners are good at neurology? Let me tell you, our ancestors were playing with that stuff long ago!"
Lin Zhiyin gave an awkward smile. "Hehe, Dean Hao, I won't argue with you. Let's stick to the facts. You say you can wake the patient up. If he doesn't wake up, I'll see what you do!"
Dean Hao put his hands behind his back and said proudly, "If the patient doesn't wake up in two hours, I'll let you be the dean!"
A smile grew on Lin Zhiyin's face. "Dean Hao, you'd better keep your word!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Dr. Pete winked at him to offer his congratulations. "Congratulations, Lin. It seems you are about to become the dean!"
Lin Zhiyin looked confident, overjoyed.
Song Anran looked worried and asked in a low voice, "Dean Hao, will it work?"
Dean Hao's face was as still as water. "I have a fifty percent chance."
Song Anran's face was full of surprise, with a hint of reproach in her eyes. "Fifty percent? Dean Hao, your decision is too reckless!"
Dean Hao said solemnly, "Although this matter is small, it concerns national prestige. Even if there is only a ten percent chance of success, I will still try."
Chen Xiao was filled with respect. However, in his heart, he felt that Dean Hao's chances of success were probably less than ten percent. It seemed he would have to help.
Half an hour passed, and the patient remained as still as a stone.
An hour passed, and the patient still showed no signs of waking up.
An hour and a half passed…
An hour and forty-five minutes passed…
Dean Hao looked defeated. It seemed the patient would not wake up.
Pete shrugged, wearing an "I told you so" expression. "I told you, your medicine is still in its early stages. You need to learn more advanced knowledge from us."
Dean Hao's old face turned red. However, he could accept criticism of himself, but not of traditional Chinese medicine!
"I admit my medical skills are lacking, but Chinese medicine is marvelous and timeless; it's not for you barbarians to judge!"
Lin Zhiyin was smug. "Dean Hao, I won't stop you from talking nonsense, but don't forget your promise!"
Dean Hao snorted angrily. "What's your rush? When the time is up, I will naturally fulfill my promise!"
Lin Zhiyin pressed aggressively. "The result is already obvious. Your method is wrong. What difference would it make even if you had another day?"
Dean Hao's face was flushed, but the fact was as such, and he couldn't refute it. He could only worry inwardly: It shouldn't be like this. According to the records in the ancient books, the patient should wake up in just half an hour. What went wrong?
Just then, Chen Xiao suddenly said indifferently, "Dean Hao's treatment method is not wrong."
Immediately, everyone looked at Chen Xiao.
Lin Zhiyin looked at Chen Xiao, seething with anger. "Boy, are you lying through your teeth? Take a look at the occasion. What qualifications do you, a nobody, have to speak? Once I take office, the first thing I'll do is fire you!"
Even Dean Hao himself looked dejected and despondent. "Master Chen, you don't need to say anything more. Wrong is wrong. My biggest regret is that I don't know where I went wrong."
Chen Xiao shook his head. "You weren't wrong to begin with. The patient has been unconscious for too long. Severe illness requires strong medicine. Using Gui Lai Xi to treat the illness is the right approach, but the medicine's effect isn't strong enough."
A flash of inspiration went through Dean Hao's mind; he seemed to have thought of something, but not completely. "Master Chen, please enlighten me!"
Chen Xiao said calmly, "In the Suwen Needling, there is a type of acupuncture that can stimulate acupoints, thereby enhancing the effect of the medicine. Does Dean Hao remember it?"
Dean Hao slapped his forehead, suddenly realizing. "The Dragon-Seeking Needle!"
"That's right! How could I not have thought of that!"
"Yes, yes! Master Chen, thank you for your guidance!"
Dean Hao thanked him and then took out the silver needles.
He suddenly looked revitalized, wielding the needles like flowing clouds and flowing water. He seemed to have instantly become ten years younger.
Song Anran knew very little about traditional Chinese medicine and asked in confusion, "Chen Xiao, what is Dean Hao doing?"
Chen Xiao slowly explained, "The Dragon-Seeking Needle comes from the Yellow Emperor's Inner Classic and is a type of acupuncture in the Suwen Needling."
"This needle itself cannot cure diseases, but it can locate the dragon, stimulate acupoints, enhance the body's absorption of medicine, thereby achieving the purpose of enhancing the medicine's effect."
Song Anran was dumbfounded. "There is actually such a magical and profound acupuncture technique?"
At this time, Lin Zhiyin was outwardly stern but inwardly fearful. He counted the time and shouted loudly, "Dean Hao, the two hours are almost up. Even if it exceeds by one second, you must fulfill your promise!"
Dean Hao concentrated his spirit, as if entering a realm where no one else existed.
Seeing that Dean Hao was unaffected, Lin Zhiyin simply began to count down: "Ten, nine, eight, seven..."
..."Three, two, one!"
"Hahahaha, you lost, Dean Hao!"
Dean Hao smiled coldly, glancing at Lin Zhiyin. "Who said I lost?"
Dean Hao flicked his sleeve, and the patient on the bed had already opened his eyes wide, looking around blankly. "Who are you people? Where is this?"
Dean Hao asked him, "Do you remember who you are?"
"Nonsense, I'm not an idiot. Of course I remember who I am. My name is Li Erniu, and I work at the seafood market..." As he spoke, he seemed to have remembered something. "Huh? I remember, I seemed to have fainted just now because I was accidentally locked in the icehouse. It was so cold inside; I was almost frozen to death..."
Dean Hao nodded gently. "That's right, you did faint, but not just now. You've been unconscious for more than three years."
