Chapter 1434: Chapter 1412: The Car Tipped Over

The driver’s face was flushed with difficulty and emotion.

Manbao urged the carriage towards Jishi Hall, the horse carriage moved slowly, and by the time they arrived, she removed the needle from the driver’s hand and went into the pharmacy.

Before long, she returned with a porcelain bottle, handing it to the driver, saying, "These are pills, two a day. Take them home and use them."

The driver dumbfoundedly accepted, reaching into his bosom to retrieve a money pouch intending to give it to Manbao, but Manbao declined with a smile, "No need. These pills are not worth much money. Originally, I should have given you a prescription, but since you might have trouble brewing the medicine, I’m giving you pills instead."

"The effect of pills is not as good as decoctions, so you might need to take them for a longer period. Pay attention to your diet after returning home."

The driver repeatedly agreed, though in truth, he didn’t have much money, finding himself in a dilemma holding the money pouch.

Manbao simply pushed the money pouch back into his bosom, then stepped on the carriage and climbed in, laughing, "Go quickly. I’ll need to give you another acupuncture session later."

Unexpectedly, just as the carriage went a short distance and was about to turn into Changqing Alley, with a "thud", the left wheel broke directly, causing the carriage to tilt uncontrollably to the left.

Pedestrians screamed and quickly scattered to avoid.

Manbao inside the carriage tilted to the left as well, quickly reaching out to grab the right window, but suddenly a large package was thrown in from outside, landing right in her lap, the smell of blood instantly filled the air...

Manbao’s eyes widened in shock, holding the soft, blood-stained item wrapped in lotus leaves, about to scream, but Keke timely said, "It’s a pig’s heart, liver, and kidneys."

Manbao swallowed down her scream, trembling as she leaned in the left carriage compartment, looking down at the thing in her lap...

She finally confirmed it was indeed a pig’s heart, liver, and kidneys, letting out a big sigh of relief.

Their carriage wasn’t moving fast to begin with, and with the crowded lane, it was even slower, so the tipping wasn’t very violent, but the sudden tilt was still frightening enough.

Many people screamed on the street.

While the horse was startled, it hadn’t done much yet. As pedestrians screamed, it became agitated, and the driver, who had fallen from the carriage, looked up to see it raising its hooves, ready to run. Remembering that Doctor Zhou Junior was still inside, he was scared out of his wits, immediately scrambling up to grab the reins...

The horse stomped restlessly but indeed stopped, the driver let out a silent sigh of relief, about to turn and help Manbao out, when the horse, having calmed down, suddenly neighed sharply, raised its hooves, and began to run...

The driver was startled, instinctively about to release the reins, remembered Doctor Zhou Junior was inside, and immediately pulled tight...

But the startled horse was too fast, dragging him along, slamming him against the carriage wall. Ignoring the pain, he shouted for people to clear the way, tightly pulling the reins to steer the horse into a nearby shop.

Though skinny, somehow he found the strength, being dragged a bit before stabilizing and turning the horse into a corner; it crashed head-on into a shop, getting stuck in the doorway, bringing the horse to a halt.

Manbao, having just figured out what was in her arms, had sighed in relief when the carriage suddenly flipped, tumbling forward, instinctively tossing the item into the system amid the chaos that followed.

Manbao thudded against the carriage wall, and as it settled, despite the pain, she scrambled to crawl out, but on lifting the curtain, saw she was inside a building.

Her eyes widened, and she exchanged a glance with the shopkeeper on the ground before finally realizing the carriage’s position.

Manbao almost burst into tears, thinking about how much this would cost to compensate.

Hurriedly climbing out of the carriage, she looked around, "Where’s my driver?"

The driver was outside, just beside a wheel, almost getting crushed.

The carriage blocked the entrance, rendering Manbao unable to exit, so she turned to help the shopkeeper, apologizing repeatedly.

The shopkeeper, initially scared stiff by the horse’s sudden entrance, was still weak-limbed but unscathed.

Frightened, the shopkeeper was finally helped up after Manbao assisted a few times.

The surrounding crowd quickly lent a hand, moving the driver aside but not daring to touch the carriage, unsure what the horse might do next.

Ignoring her own soreness, Manbao hurriedly untied the horse, lowering the carriage, allowing others outside to help drag it back.

Once the carriage was removed, Manbao quickly went outside to check on the driver.

Dragged brutally, his back was bleeding, tears welled in Manbao’s eyes as she checked his pulse, relieved to find it steady with no apparent internal injuries.

Hearing the commotion, staff from the not-too-distant Jishi Hall rushed over, and upon recognizing Doctor Zhou Junior’s carriage involved, one ran back immediately.

Soon after, both Jishi Hall staff and doctors, along with doctors from the neighboring Baohe Clinic and Hundred Herbs Hall arrived.

Everyone first checked on Manbao, and seeing she was unharmed, quickly turned their attention to the driver on the ground.

Doctor Ding shouted, "Quickly, get a door panel to carry him, gently, he might have broken bones."

The nearest Baohe Clinic doctor couldn’t help but say, "We seemed to arrive first, Doctor Zhou Junior, why not send him to our place?"

"Shoo, Doctor Zhou Junior works at Jishi Hall, if anywhere, it’s there he’ll go."

Fearful of losing the patient to competition, they quickly surrounded the driver, checking him over directly, announcing shortly, "The hand’s fine, the left leg seems broken, does this hurt?"

The driver nearly cried, choking, "It hurts."

Everything ached, he was terrified.

Manbao was equally frightened, having not seen it but hearing people describe him being dragged and twisting the horse ninety degrees left her shaken.

Gently, she helped along with Doctor Ding and others to place him on a door panel, ready to head back to the pharmacy.

Remembering something, she turned back into the carriage to grab her medicine box, retrieving the item she tossed into the system, and stood on the tilted carriage shaft, addressing the onlookers while holding the thing, "Who does this package of heart, liver, and kidneys belong to?"

The onlookers were startled, some faint-hearted ones buckled at the sight of blood seeping from the exposed lotus leaves.

Doctor Ding was also taken aback, stammering, "Doctor, Doctor Zhou Junior, where did you get that?"

Manbao said gravely, "When the carriage overturned, someone threw it into my lap, who did it?"

The crowd collectively took a step back, faces turning pale, shaking their heads in denial.
