Chapter 407 Confirmation
The sudden appearance of a group of teachers was just a minor interlude.
At least, it was for Mingmei. But for Hu Yue, who was sitting behind her, it was anything but.
Her homeroom teacher, Dennis, was sitting right next to her.
Even Lu Gui knew to avoid Dennis’s sharp edge, pretending to be asleep, leaving Hu Yue to face Dennis alone.
“I heard your brother is back?”
Dennis’s words made Hu Yue break out in a cold sweat.
A tiny, terrified version of herself was already jumping up and down in her heart, vowing to beat her brother 180 times!
He’d been back for almost half a month and hadn’t bothered to visit his former homeroom teacher, but he had time to sneak around the school and kick down the classroom door. Only her brother would do something like that!
“Um… yes, he’s back. I heard you were away on a research trip, so I didn’t want to bother you,” Hu Yue said, not expecting Dennis to return a week early from her studies.
From the looks of it, her homeroom teacher was clearly aware of the plan and had even participated in it.
With her homeroom teacher sitting here, she almost forgot that she was about to face a tough battle.
“Speaking of which, there isn’t a single student from our class on this starship,” Pearl said, sitting at the rear of the ship with some of the other teachers, having scanned all the students.
There really wasn’t anyone from their class.
“It was all by lottery. We don’t have anyone either,” another male teacher said with a casual smile. “But I heard the accommodations on this starship aren’t as good as the ones on the ships behind us. Those who weren’t assigned here are in luck.”
“Is that so?” Pearl’s eyes flickered as she looked at the students in the front, saying as if she was joking, “Then it’s a shame for these students…”
Mingmei once again felt someone’s eyes on her, this time even more intensely.
“Mu Chen.”
Mingmei sat quietly and called out in a low voice.
“What’s wrong?”
“Someone is watching me. The gaze isn’t obvious, but I can feel it.” After Mingmei finished speaking, Mu Chen instinctively covered her with the blanket on the seat.
Then, he turned to look discreetly behind Mingmei, past Dennis, who was emanating a low-pressure field as she pretended to rest, and the trembling Hu Yue beside her. His gaze landed on the group of teachers chatting and laughing at the back.
There was a dangerous individual staring at Mingmei among them…
“Are you thirsty?”
Compared to others looking at him, Mu Chen was equally sensitive to gazes directed at Mingmei.
Hearing Mu Chen’s sudden question, Mingmei didn’t show any surprise.
“Yes, I’d like some juice.”
Mingmei only paused for half a second before immediately agreeing, and those around them who were paying attention didn’t notice anything amiss.
“They’re so in love~”
As she spoke, Pearl watched Mu Chen doting on Mingmei, even personally taking a cup to get drinks from the back of the ship, and she couldn’t help but sigh with admiration.
“Yes, her family has met him, and her parents really like Mu Chen.”
Chelsea didn’t hide anything, speaking casually about Mingmei and Mu Chen’s relationship.
The other teachers joked, teasing them about whether they would get married after graduation. Chelsea just kept smiling and didn’t respond to their gossip.
Listening to Mei Qiu’s words, Chelsea knew that there seemed to be something unresolved between Mingmei and Mu Chen, and she wondered if it would affect their relationship in the future.
Hearing this, Pearl changed the subject and asked, “Mei Qiu and Mingmei are so outstanding. Their parents must be very impressive as well, right?”
“Yes~ My in-laws are quite impressive.”
Chelsea replied with a smile, but while she acknowledged it, she didn’t elaborate further.
Exactly how impressive they were, this made Pearl, who had brought up the topic but couldn’t get any details, feel extremely uncomfortable.
“Really? I’m so curious what kind of parents could raise such amazing children.”
Seeing that Chelsea wasn’t taking the bait, Pearl tried to lead her on again, saying, “I don’t even have a boyfriend yet, and sometimes I wonder how I’ll raise my children when I have them, but I can’t imagine it at all.”
Chelsea just smiled and remained silent, not taking the bait.
It was hilarious. Could she say that her husband was raised by uncles who weren't related by blood?
Even her beloved sister-in-law, who was currently the apple of everyone's eye, had grown up with her sisters supporting each other and doted on by her godfather. When it came to her in-laws, what they contributed was probably their excellent and wicked genes.
She couldn't let her in-laws hear that.
Seeing that Chelsea wasn’t talking, Pearl gnashed her teeth inwardly, but then acted as if nothing had happened and turned to talk to the other teachers. During this time, Mu Chen returned with the juice, passing by them without anyone noticing.
“Did you see it?”
Mingmei asked quietly as she took the juice.
“Yes, that Payer Liland, the homeroom teacher of the logistics class, is acting strange.” Mu Chen sat down and carefully fastened his seat belt, his lips barely moving.
“Oh.”
Mingmei wanted to say that besides Chelsea, she only knew the Zhen brothers and Hu Yue's homeroom teacher. She wasn't familiar with anyone else.
Even if Mu Chen said their full names and which class they were in, it wouldn't help.
“It’s the female teacher wearing a silver-blue combat uniform with a brown bun.”
Seeing Mingmei staring blankly at the juice, Mu Chen’s words hit the mark.
“Okay.”
Mingmei nodded slightly and then looked at the time on the starship. It had been half an hour since they took off.
At least, an attack wasn’t likely to happen in the short term.
Mingmei finished the juice and closed her eyes to rest, the route of the entire flight flashing through her mind.
The journey was a total of four hours, during which they would pass through three wormholes to reach the "barren star" that the school had originally booked. According to Chelsea's estimate, the Zerg would launch an attack between the second and third wormholes.
Of course, it couldn't be ruled out that they might be impatient and act when passing through the first wormhole.
But the probability of that was very small. The first wormhole wasn't far from the central star, and the military was stationed around it all year round. The Zerg weren't stupid.
The second and third wormholes were too far apart. Since there were troops waiting outside the third wormhole, the time between the second and third wormholes was indeed a good time for the Zerg to attack.
As long as they could evade the detection of the Federation border.
Mingmei couldn’t help but sigh slightly with her eyes closed.
She didn’t expect the Federation to be involved this time.
……
“How is it?”
At a monitoring station on the Federation border, no one would have expected a small monitoring station to be visited by such a big figure.
“Reporting to the President, just now, Xingyan insects, Thousand-Eyed insects, and Black Armor insects infiltrated from the edge of the Gamma star field, heading towards Imperial territory.”
“Monitor closely and don’t alert them.”
Louis looked at the star field defense map above his head, pointed to a location on the border between the Empire and the Federation, and said, “Once the Empire and the Zerg start fighting, if any Zerg retreat, capture them alive if possible, or kill them on the spot!”
Louis didn’t expect the Zerg to be so bold. They had failed in an assassination attempt in the Federation, and now they were targeting the Empire.
But what surprised him was that the Empire had reacted immediately and even sent an encrypted message to communicate with him.
This time, he wanted to capture one or two of them alive to get useful information…
