Chapter 287: Chapter 287: Beautiful Sunset
Arriving at the Sixth Floor of Nazarick was like stepping into an entirely different world. Unlike the other floors, which were filled with deadly traps, undead sentinels, and an eerie atmosphere, the Sixth Floor was a serene, natural paradise.
A vast expanse of lush greenery stretched out before us, with birds of all colors flitting through the trees and the gentle rustle of leaves in the wind creating a peaceful ambiance. It was a place of beauty and tranquility—a stark contrast to the rest of Nazarick.
Mitsuri’s eyes widened in awe as she took in the surroundings. "Alex-san, this is beautiful!" she exclaimed, spinning around with a bright smile. "It’s like stepping into a dream!"
I smiled faintly at her reaction. "This is one of Nazarick’s treasures, the Sixth Floor. It’s guarded by some of the most powerful beings you can imagine."
As if on cue, a shadow loomed over us. Mitsuri froze as a massive Earth Dragon stepped into view, its scales glinting like polished stone under the fading sunlight. Its golden eyes glowed softly, exuding an air of majesty and overwhelming power. The dragon lowered its head in a show of respect as it approached me.
Mitsuri, on the other hand, looked both fascinated and nervous. "What is this giant... lizard-like creature, Alex-san?" she asked hesitantly, pointing at the dragon.
I couldn’t help but chuckle at her innocence. "It’s not a lizard, Mitsuri. It’s a dragon—one of the most powerful beings in existence. To put it into perspective, a thousand demons from your world wouldn’t even be able to scratch its scales."
Her eyes widened further, and she quickly bowed her head toward the dragon. "I’m so sorry for calling you a lizard!"
The Earth Dragon glanced at me, seeking permission to respond. I gave a slight nod, and the dragon’s deep, rumbling voice filled the air. "It’s alright, young lady," it said, its tone calm and gentle, though its sheer presence was enough to send shivers down anyone’s spine.
Mitsuri straightened up, still blushing from embarrassment. "Thank you, Mr. Dragon. You’re very kind!"
Watching her interact with the dragon gave me an idea—a perfect way to make this moment even more memorable. "Mitsuri," I said, catching her attention. "How would you like to watch the sunset from the dragon’s back?"
Her face lit up with excitement, though there was a hint of hesitation in her eyes. "Really? We can do that?"
"Of course. It’s an experience you won’t forget."
The dragon lowered itself, allowing us to climb onto its broad back. Mitsuri grabbed onto my arm tightly as we ascended, the dragon’s massive wings unfurling with a powerful gust of wind. "I’m not scared!" she declared, though her grip on me said otherwise.
The dragon rose into the air with a grace that belied its size, carrying us higher and higher until the sprawling greenery below became a patchwork quilt. As we soared through the sky, the setting sun painted the horizon in hues of gold, orange, and crimson. The beauty of the scene left Mitsuri speechless, her earlier nervousness replaced by pure wonder.
"This is... incredible," she murmured, her voice barely audible over the wind. "Thank you for bringing me here, Alex-san."
I leaned closer to her, letting the moment sink in. "I’m glad you’re enjoying it. You deserve moments like this."
She turned to me, her emerald-green eyes shimmering with emotion. "Alex-san... you’re so kind to me. I’ve never met anyone like you."
The atmosphere between us grew warmer, the cool breeze doing little to temper the heat rising in my chest. I reached out, gently brushing a strand of her pink hair away from her face. "Mitsuri... I think you’re amazing. More than you realize."
Her cheeks flushed a deep pink, and she stammered, "I-I... Alex-san..."
The dragon’s flight was smooth, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. The fiery colors of the sunset bathed us in a golden glow, and as I leaned closer, her lips parted slightly in surprise.
I hesitated for a heartbeat, giving her a chance to pull away, but she didn’t. Instead, she leaned in as well, her eyes fluttering shut. Our lips met in a soft, tender kiss, the world around us fading into insignificance. It was just the two of us, suspended in the sky on the back of a dragon, sharing a moment that felt both surreal and perfect.
When we finally pulled away, her face was an adorable mix of shyness and exhilaration. "Alex-san... I..." she started, but her words trailed off as she buried her face in her hands, clearly overwhelmed.
I chuckled softly, finding her reaction endearing. "You don’t have to say anything, Mitsuri. Just being here with you is enough."
The dragon let out a low, rumbling noise, as if to remind us that it was still there. I smirked, patting its side. "Thanks for the ride. I think we’re ready to head back."
The dragon descended gracefully, landing near a secluded chamber on the Sixth Floor. Without even realizing it, we had moved from the dragon’s back to one of Nazarick’s lavishly decorated rooms. It was cozy and warm, illuminated by the soft glow of enchanted crystals embedded in the walls.
Mitsuri looked around, her blush deepening as she realized where we were. "W-we’re... in a room?"
I smirked, unable to resist teasing her. "It’s a private space. I thought you might like a quieter place to relax after our flight."
Her hands fidgeted nervously, but she nodded. "T-thank you, Alex-san. This has been the most amazing day of my life."
I reached out, taking her hand in mine. "Mitsuri, this is only the beginning. As long as you’re with me, there’s so much more I want to show you."
Her lips curled into a shy smile, and she squeezed my hand lightly. "Then... I’ll stay by your side, Alex-san. No matter what."
