Chapter 743: Chapter 743: You’re Truly Heartless
"Looking for my help?"
"Yes, I want you to come with me and put on an act."
Chi Yue raised her eyebrows, then heard him say, "My family is pressuring me to get married. Can you help me deal with it for a few days? I really don’t see any other way."
Chi Yue’s face showed surprise, "How do you plan on dealing with it?"
"Pretend to be with me, and then fake an engagement."
Chi Yue’s face turned pale with shock, staring at him for a long time, confirming he wasn’t joking, she felt incredulous again, "Are you serious?"
Chu Shuo’s expression was one of resignation, "If there was another way, I wouldn’t have come to you."
Chi Yue still couldn’t digest the news, "Why don’t you go back and think it over? It’s just family pressure to marry, as you know, there must be a solution."
Chu Shuo gave a bitter smile, "Have you forgotten about Chi Qingqing?"
"..."
Chu Shuo sighed sadly, "If this is too difficult for you, I can go to Nan Bingyu, but she has two kids and there’s Xi Yihang by her side, which is a bit troublesome."
Chi Yue felt a headache coming on.
She could already imagine Xi Yihang’s reaction when he heard about this.
Thinking about the chaotic scenes that would ensue, Chi Yue’s headache worsened, "Aren’t you afraid that Fu Rongyin will find out?"
"What if he found out? This is what he owes me, besides, don’t you want to know what your place is in his heart?"
Chi Yue was somewhat moved.
Honestly, Fu Rongyin was a bit cold by nature and didn’t like to talk much to her. Even though he had recently returned to her side, he still wasn’t very talkative.
Seeing her waver, Chu Shuo said, "Don’t rush to reject me. It’s okay to tell me your answer after you’ve thought it through."
By the time Chi Yue got home, it was late at night, and a lamp was left on for her in the living room.
She went upstairs and didn’t see Fu Rong in the master bedroom but turned her head to see him standing in the doorway of the study.
"Where were you this afternoon?" he asked.
Chi Yue’s gaze flickered, "I went to meet a friend."
Her hand involuntarily clenched, betraying her nervousness.
She thought he would keep asking, but to her surprise, he simply acknowledged and walked into the room.
Chi Yue took a deep breath, cursing herself for her timidity. She hadn’t done anything wrong, yet she felt incredibly guilty.
She decided to go to the guest bathroom and take a shower. When she came back, Fu Rong was still propped up in bed reading.
She lifted the covers and got into bed. The man didn’t move an inch.
Chi Yue tossed and turned, using the act of flipping over to steal glances at him.
Under the warm light, the man’s firm features were so clear, his facial traits were delicate, freshly washed hair falling in a few strands on his forehead casting a shadow.
His lips were moderately thick, perfect for kissing, and thinking about what he had done at night, Chi Yue’s cheeks warmed.
As she was about to turn over, he suddenly looked towards her. Chi Yue didn’t have time to avert her gaze and their eyes met squarely.
Chi Yue cleared her throat, closing her eyes to alleviate the awkwardness but then heard his deep, pleasant voice, "I’m going to Beijing tomorrow."
Chi Yue’s eyes snapped open, "You’re going again?"
Even she didn’t realize how unexpectedly cold her voice sounded.
Fu Rong laid his hand on her head, "I’ll be gone for a few days to take care of some matters."
"How many days is a few days?"
Fu Rong remained silent.
Chi Yue sat up, "So you’ve just been finding time to placate my feelings these past few days? To make sure I don’t mess up your plans in Beijing? Fu Rong, do you even have a heart?"
Fu Rong leaned back against the headboard, his dark eyes unfathomable, "I’m sorry, I’ll come back as soon as I can."
Chi Yue laughed, "You’re truly heartless."
She threw back the covers and got out of bed, only to be grasped by him.
