Chapter 1131: Chapter 685_2
After being a pirate for so many years, everything they’ve accumulated is about to be lost. Now, they not only need magical treasures to fend off attacks but also have to consume healing medicine and spirit qi medicine non-stop. At this point, who cares about thrift or waste?
As long as they can withstand the assault and keep their lives—if they can escape from here—losing everything is a small price to pay. They can always rise again!
The Sect Leader and the Elders, in their dark and hidden thoughts, all agree: staying here foolishly is not an option. They’ve already discovered that the Demon King—that bastard—has retreated his forces, leaving them here as live targets!
The Sect Leader feels that their former cleverness has turned into stupidity. These missions weren’t supposed to require their personal involvement. And yet, because of that magical treasure ship, here they are. The treasure is now within view but out of reach!
Greed truly is a killer!
At this critical moment, the Sect Leader and the Elders can no longer concern themselves with the disciples. They can’t afford to stay here and wait for death. They must escape!
The Sect Leader knows that if they can get to that island near their sect, there might be a sliver of hope. Their sect’s island has a hidden pathway leading straight to the seabed, allowing them to escape through the ocean!
Right now, with such a powerful enemy, there’s no doubt that these enemies already have a way to infiltrate their sect. Even their closed-cultivation ancestor might not be able to resist them!
But at this moment, they can’t be concerned about the ancestor.
The Sect Leader of Invincible Sect ensures he’s the quickest among them to leave the formation. The Elders, on the other hand, are slower—they’re of no use!
One after another, they darted out of the formation, flying toward their island, which was only a couple of miles away at its closest point.
If they can increase their speed and avoid being pursued, just reaching that island might grant them a slim chance of survival!
For now, the Sect Leader can’t spare attention to the disciples in the sky—his own survival is the priority. He also knows that fleeing to the island might implicate the ancestor, who’s still in isolated cultivation.
But in the face of these enemies—just two Divine Beasts alone are this strong—the Sect Leader and the Elders believe the ancestor would likely have to confront these formidable foes and beasts eventually, whether or not they escape. Their presence shouldn’t make much difference.
The thought remains, however: if they can retreat to the island first, maybe the ancestor can protect them. Perhaps they could even locate the secret space and escape. After all, there’s a teleportation formation there!
That island has a teleportation formation—built for emergencies like this—to enable an escape route when in dire peril.
The teleportation formation is a closely kept secret. Only the sect’s top figures know about it. Ordinary disciples on sect missions usually rely on sailing ships or flying treasures to get around.
The sect does possess some very advanced flying treasures, but they use spirit stones to operate. If they’re used to fly over the sea for extended periods, they consume a tremendous amount of energy. It’s exhausting without spirit stone support!
If someone is utterly drained and encounters danger in the sky, they’ll be forced to land for rest—and only islands can provide safe landings. Unfortunately, not all islands are suitable for landing. Some are deserted or barren, only hosting bare rocks where nothing grows, rendering them utterly uninhabitable.
Some islands are even teeming with monsters, making it impossible for common cultivators to survive. Those creatures can either live within the islands or roam the terrain.
Eryao’s sinister gaze locked onto those fleeing toward the island—these pathetic, defeated enemies!
“Green Ox, what are you standing there dumbfounded for? Hurry up and finish them!”
Green Ox obeyed without protest. For now, he was Eryao’s follower and had to adhere to his orders.
Silently, Green Ox grumbled to himself: “We’ve already thunderstruck these people so badly their own parents wouldn’t recognize them. How are they even managing to flee? Eryao, why not just keep thunderstriking them yourself? Thunderbolts are more devastating than my fireballs. Chasing after them won’t stop them from running away!”
Watching Green Ox obediently pursue their targets, Eryao smirked, thinking it’s now Green Ox’s time to shine—it also gave him a brief moment of reprieve.
Eryao was confident. Even if they hid on that island, he could still smoke them out!
Eryao hadn’t yet considered the possibility of something like a teleportation formation. Such technology seemed improbable for a remote island in the vast sea.
Even if there was a teleportation, it might simply send them to another obscure island—or worse, into the middle of the ocean!
And in the middle of the ocean, where could they take a break from the endless expanse of water and sky?
Green Ox hurled fireballs one after another. “Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!” He chased down the slowest Elders at the back of the fleeing group.
Those Elders, as if growing eyes on the back of their heads, hurled their magical treasures to intercept the fireballs the moment they neared. They’d rather sacrifice their treasures than use their own bodies to block the fiery assault!
They had clearly witnessed earlier how these fireballs weren’t ordinary. These carried an electric charge, no different from thunderbolts, albeit slightly weaker.
But even at slightly reduced power, being struck by them would still result in utter annihilation!
As experienced cultivators, none of the Elders were confident their flesh could withstand even one of those fireballs unscathed.
Realizing the enemy was far stronger than themselves, they abandoned thoughts of resistance and focused entirely on a frantic retreat to their stronghold.
The Sect Leader felt a small measure of relief. His speed was slightly superior, allowing him to reach the island skies ahead of the others. Thanks to the lagging Elders holding off the fireballs temporarily, he managed to descend onto the island itself.
The Elders, however, felt nothing but dismay. Their abilities were inferior, and so was their pace in fleeing. Those who lagged behind found themselves quickly surrounded by Green Ox’s fireballs. The fiery assault encircled them entirely. To escape would require enduring the intense blaze of burning fireballs!
Green Ox felt a tinge of regret—that Sect Leader had barely escaped, all because he was just a tad faster!
Eryao, seeing their most troublesome adversary flee into the island, grew furious. He barked at Green Ox, berating him for being slow.
Yet, Eryao didn’t have time to vent his anger at Green Ox. He followed in hot pursuit, unleashing a relentless barrage of thunderstrikes upon the island’s formation. But unlike their earlier formation, this one seemed higher-level, likely crafted by a more skilled formation master. Destroying it wouldn’t be so easy.
“Boom! Boom! Boom!”
The Elders trapped within Green Ox’s ring of fireballs looked ashen, despairing over their predicament. Slow as they were, they had never focused on refining their movement techniques. Perhaps as pirates, they had over-relied on external tools and tricks, filling them with false confidence.
That overconfidence was now laid bare. Thousands of sect disciples couldn’t measure up to just two Divine Beasts!
Now, the dozen or so Elders found themselves trapped by a single Divine Beast’s fireball barrage, forced to throw out their most precious life-saving treasures in a desperate bid to survive.
They prayed they could break free of this fiery cage—even if it meant plunging into the sea below. As long as they lived, it would already be a blessing!
Eryao turned to Jiang Tang to confer, mentioning that the illusion realm surrounding the island and its formation might take longer to breach. His formation skills weren’t strong enough to ensure the enemies couldn’t escape the island in the meantime.
Inside a flying treasure, Jiang Tang quickly grasped the situation. Realizing there might be even more formidable figures on the island, he knew Eryao couldn’t handle it alone, especially with the protection of both the island’s formation and its secrets.
As their master, Jiang Tang resolved to step in. Besides, he wanted to see just how powerful this closed-cultivation ancestor really was.
Outside, chaos reigned. And yet, the island’s ancestor remained in secluded cultivation. Did he truly think the sect was invulnerable?
Jiang Tang finally emerged from his flying treasure. The ordinary disciples could only stare in awe at the incredible vessel—capable of both navigating the seas and soaring through the skies.
A young man—Jiang Tang—stepped out, seemingly in his early twenties, radiating elegance and handsomeness. His exceptional looks caught everyone’s eye, yet what struck them even more was the oppressive aura emanating from him as he appeared in the air!
