Chapter 306: Meeting the past [1]

The road stretched before him, slick with rain and glimmering under the occasional flash of lightning.

For half an hour he drove in silence, navigating the wet roads.

Finally, the dark silhouette of the private airport appeared on the horizon.

He turned into the entrance and the security barriers lifted automatically as his presence was recognized.

The guards at the checkpoint nodded respectfully as they lowered their gaze, and he acknowledged them with a brief glance.

The tarmac ahead shone under the floodlights and among them, the private jet was waiting.

Brandon parked swiftly and without a moment’s delay, he stepped out of the car.

The cold night air hit him and his black clothes clung slightly to his skin from the humidity.

Two attendants, dressed impeccably in dark suits, stood at attention near the aircraft’s entrance.

Their eyes met his briefly before dropping respectfully.

He walked past them, reaching the aircraft stairs.

One of the flight attendants gestured toward the open door.

As his foot crossed the threshold into the cabin, the attendants bowed once more.

Without wasting another breath, Brandon walked down the aisle and sank into one of the plush seats near the window.

Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his mobile phone and at that very moment, a flight attendant approached him quietly with a tray in hand.

"Do you need something to drink, sir?"

Brandon glanced at her briefly and shook his head "Nope."

The attendant inclined her head respectfully and stepped back, allowing Brandon the space he needed.

Just as he turned his attention back to his mobile, the familiar vibration signaled an incoming call.

Brandon’s thumb swiped, and the call connected "Callista."

From the other end, Callista’s calm voice came through the line, "Lord Herald, I have already arranged everything for your arrival in Japan. Before you even land, full information about the girl will be in your hands."

A faint smile appeared on Brandon’s lips, "Thanks, Callista,"

For a moment, Callista went silent before replying "It is my duty, Lord Herald."

---

With a gentle jolt, the plane touched down on the runway of a private airport in Japan.

The wheels screeched softly against the road before rolling to a smooth stop.

Brandon stood up from his seat without haste and as the cabin door opened, a rush of fresh air greeted him.

He stepped out onto the private jet’s staircase, his black t-shirt and shorts blending with the cool tones of the rising day.

At the bottom of the stairs, a sleek black car waited and beside it, a woman was standing dressed in a tailored dark uniform with the emblem of the Adventurer’s Guild discreetly stitched on her shoulder.

As he approached, she lowered her head "I am Ayane Fujimura, an S-rank adventurer appointed by Lady Callista to escort you during your stay."

Brandon’s gaze softened just slightly as he acknowledged her. "Ayane..."

Without further delay, he entered the car and Ayane entered the car after him.

Ayane turned slightly toward him and her eyes softened with a polite smile.

"It’s truly an honor to be assigned to assist you, Mr.Brandon. I’m very happy to work with you during your stay here."

Brandon’s lips curved in a subtle smile, "Thank you, Ayane. I appreciate it."

She seemed genuinely pleased by the opportunity and after a brief silence, she hesitated, then glanced toward him again. "If it’s not too forward... may I take a selfie with you? It’s not every day I’m able to work alongside the Herald of the Rhéanne Church."

Brandon’s eyes flicked to her, "Of course."

She quickly reached into the dashboard compartment and retrieved her phone.

She tilted it slightly, angling it so that both of them would fit perfectly in the frame and Brandon leaned just enough to be clearly visible.

She smiled broadly and pressed the shutter.

The screen displayed the captured image instantly "Thank you, Mr.Brandon," she said, lowering the phone and glancing once more at the image before slipping the device back into its case.

The car pulled smoothly onto the road, and Ayane expertly guided them out of the airport.

The sky above Okinawa was pale with the early rays of the sun, and the sea breeze drifted faintly through the slightly opened windows.

As they drove, Ayane occasionally pointed out landmarks... a temple here, a bustling market district there.

Brandon listened, nodding occasionally, letting the scenery and conversation blend.

They drove past seaside resorts, low residential streets, and patches of green where cyclists and morning joggers passed by.

After some time, the car slowed and turned into a quieter neighborhood.

The streets narrowed, flanked by modern apartment complexes.

The car rolled to a stop in front of one such building.

Ayane shifted the gear into park and turned toward him once more.

"We’ve arrived, Mr.Brandon. The woman you were searching for stays in this complex. I’ve already confirmed her room. It is room number 102."

Brandon’s eyes flicked briefly toward the building’s entrance "Good. Wait here,"

Ayane nodded immediately. "Of course, Lord Herald. I’ll wait here until you return."

With a nod, Brandon stepped out of the car and reached the building entrance.

He reached room 102 after a few moments and standing before the door, he raised his hand and knocked twice.

Inside the room, Nari Jiyeon was sitting on the edge of the sofa watching the news broadcast played on the television.

The sound of the knock startled her and she frowned slightly.

She stood up from the sofa, smoothing the hem of her nightwear with one hand, and walked toward the door.

As she neared it, she paused, staring at the peephole.

Slowly, she leaned in, pressing her eye to the small glass lens.

For a heartbeat, she froze.

Her eyes widened, disbelief looking at the young man standing outside the door.

Quickly she fumbled with the latch and flung the door open.

She glanced at Brandon in absolute shock.

"Kael...?"

Looking at Jiyeon, Brandon let out a soft sigh as she looked beautiful as ever, with her purple hair and those purple eyes "Yeon.."

She blinked in confusion and shook her head, wondering if she is dreaming.
