Chapter 15 Temporary Farewell to Fei Jie

Another autumn arrived, and chrysanthemums bloomed all over the mountains.

Originally, Fei Jie's teaching career in Danzhou should have ended in the summer, but Mr. Fei liked the air, the sea breeze, the food at the Earl of Sinan's manor, and also the child he was teaching, so he stayed for a few more months.

After a few months, Mr. Fei, who was adept at poisoning the living and naturally also at prolonging the lives of the elderly, patted his increasingly round belly and regretfully received a letter from Kyoto. He reluctantly bid farewell to the old mother of the Earl of Sinan.

The old lady naturally knew that this teacher had been sent by someone from Kyoto. She comforted him with a few kind words, and did not try to keep him. Then, she prepared a generous red envelope to thank him.

Beside the official road leading west from Danzhou Port, teacher and student were engaged in a farewell conversation.

"Why won't you listen to me and stop practicing that true energy that could explode at any time?"

"Teacher, at least for now, I haven't found any major problems."

"If there were no problems, why did you lose control and smash the entire wine vat when you went to the kitchen to steal wine last night?"

"It was an accident," Fan Xian replied, troubled. In recent months, the true energy within him had become increasingly violent, and such things happened frequently. This had prevented little Fan Xian from telling ghost stories in bed with the servant girl sisters for many days, because he feared that he might accidentally crush flowers when everyone huddled together, committing an unforgivable error.

"If you learn to use poison, you will have learned the most powerful way to kill in this world. Why bother learning those other things?"

"Because using poison can easily harm innocent civilians."

Fei Jie suddenly stared into the little boy's eyes and said, "Are you sure you're not even six years old this year?"

Fan Xian looked at his teacher innocently: "Being precocious isn't my fault."

Fei Jie sighed and spat twice, feeling that it was quite remarkable that he had not gone insane after being with this little monster for so long.

As they were about to part, Fei Jie stroked the little guy's head and looked back at Danzhou City behind him. The seaport was displaying its beauty under the backdrop of the blue sea and sky.

"If you really come to Kyoto in the future… as a doctor, remember to find me."

"Yes," Fan Xian bowed respectfully. He was indeed grateful to this strange old man in front of him. The blind Wu Zhu was always so cold. Over the years, the adult soul within the child had been able to find someone to talk to. Even if the other person was his teacher, and had a very unusual background, he was still grateful. Moreover, after more than a year of living together, he could feel that the other person was growing increasingly fond of him.

"Don't learn that true energy…"

"Teacher, you're really long-winded."

"Perhaps it's because I'm too old?" Fei Jie rubbed Fan Xian's soft black hair on his little head with one hand, and stroked the messy gray hair on his own head with the other.

"But that true energy is indeed useless. Its power is too great, and it's uncontrollable." Fei Jie still hadn't given up. "That sword-wielding monster from Dongyi City owes me a favor. If you're willing, I can introduce you to be his student."

Fan Xian gasped and said, "Are you talking about the Sword Saint from Dongyi City?"

"Yes," Fei Jie tempted. "One of the Four Grandmasters, surely that's better than what you're practicing."

What interested Fan Xian was something else: "Teacher, how do you know him?"

"Oh, when he was eight years old, his father asked me to treat him… tsk tsk, that monster was obviously an idiot. He would just hug a tree branch and stare blankly every day. I treated him casually, and then a few years later, I heard that he had actually learned the Si Gu Swordplay and become a Grandmaster."

Fan Xian looked at him with disdain: "Treated him casually? Let's not even talk about you cheating medical fees, just the fact that you almost killed a future peerless expert is worthy of contempt."

Fei Jie pretended to be angry and walked towards the carriage in the distance, saying as he walked: "A brief introduction to biological poisons and related knowledge, I've taught you all these things, but there's still one crucial thing that I haven't told you."

Fan Xian scurried along, his little legs like wind-fire wheels, following behind his teacher: "What is it?"

"Detoxification isn't difficult, nor is concocting poison difficult… The most difficult thing is administering poison."

Fei Jie walked forward without looking back.

Fan Xian stopped in his tracks, carefully pondering the sentence he had just said. He had been studying this area of knowledge with Fei Jie for a year, and he naturally knew that it was extremely difficult to find a colorless, odorless, and imperceptible poison in this world.

So the key lies in the 'administering' of the poison.

He suddenly smiled shyly, thinking that he wasn't planning to become an assassin, nor was he planning to poison the emperor in the palace. Why worry about these things? As long as he could ensure that the concubine at the Earl of Sinan's mansion in Kyoto couldn't find someone to poison him, he would be fine. After following Teacher Fei Jie for a year, he had confidence in that.

Watching the carriage gradually move away, the dust rose and slowly settled by the roadside, Fan Xian bowed to the carriage on the road. He knew that the perverted old man on the carriage must have been very unwilling to come to Danzhou in the first place. However, during this year, he had followed him around digging up corpses and cutting frog legs, and he had inevitably been infected with some of the other's dark aura, and he felt that he could be considered a kindred spirit despite the age difference.

With such a person leaving, Fan Xian couldn't help but feel a little saddened: "Teacher Fei Jie is really a nice person, just... a bit unsightly."

——————————————————————————

After that, for a long time, Fan Xian couldn't get used to it. When ordinary aristocratic boys were his age, they might call friends to learn and play together. Although he was the only young nobleman in Danzhou Port, he could still find many playmates of similar age. But Fan Xian knew that after he finished his storytime, he would no longer be able to associate with those "peers."

Because his mental age was much older than theirs. Being with those children felt like taking care of kids. Not everyone is willing to be a "child king" to satisfy their petty desire for power - even in the original world, there were few grown men willing to be kindergarten teachers, it's the same principle.

Teacher Fei Jie left Danzhou Port, and having lost the only person he could communicate with, he felt that his life was starting to become boring. He stood at the gate of the Earl's manor, watching the crowds coming and going on the road, feeling somewhat lonely, and wondering what he should do in the future, stuck in this small child's body.

He thought of the wonderful things he had imagined when he had just woken up, and couldn't help but laugh at himself - he had spent most of his previous life lingering in bed. His abilities made his transmigration particularly pathetic, but he had originally thought that he had more skills than the people in this world, such as being able to make a few bars of soap, burn a few ugly glass cups, or come up with a few simple ideas that could bring him many benefits…

But when Fan Xian found that soap already existed in this world, and glass was not that rare, and Fei Jie left Danzhou Port in a four-wheeled carriage, and even more so when he saw that the guards beside the carriage were riding horses with saddles and stirrups, a feeling of failure made him start to sigh.
